Lake Lungern, Switzerland- Simply unreal.

When was the last time you gasped? I mean, truly awed and caught your breath in an abrupt and involuntary reaction to something unbelievably impressive?

The breathtaking view of Lake Lungern evoked a similar emotion which I hadn't made any acquaintance with in a very long time. Right behind the trees of the parking was a vast emrald-like shimmering water, on which the surrounding Alpine peaks mirrored against. I gasped and wow'd in sheer disbelief and appreciation.

This wasn't a planned stop, which might have added some effect. It was supposed to be a quick water-break, as were heading South to Jungfraujoch, but the lake would keep us attached to it for much longer. As I stood on Swiss ground and was being thoroughly taken away by the lake, I almost debated if Switzerland was even real. Simply because how incredible the lake looked. I had only seen such views in paintings and movies, and thought the reality of it would be less impressive, but it is quite the opposite.

If you go further south there are two dedicated photopoints on the eastern part of the lake. Our route would take us away from the photopoints so we decided to stick around for just a little longer before we continued the journey and take in as much as possible of this unreal place. I'm telling you, it looks absolutely unreal in-person.

We stopped at the entry of the Bürglenstrasse street, opposite the Hotel Kaiserstuhl. If you go looking for this exact point, these two reference points could help pinpoint the location. Further down the street, there is a pink-ish building, the fishing store - fischerparadies. A lot of fishing enthusiasts come here, and when needed, get their gear from this shop. You'll also find some souvenirs here. Further down the street is an actual tourist spot to take plenty of photos - Kaiserstuhl. And if you really want to make the most of going down this street then you'll have to visit the Chapel that overseas the lake.

I couldn't keep myself from getting down to the bank and truly experiencing the most. There is a simple gravel and stone path you can follow along at the edge of the lake. The views from here are absolutely incredible. The water is so clear! Most of the path is bordered by grass before a steep decline into the shallow bank, but there are a lot of spots ahead which are lined with larger rocks where you can comfortably linger on.

The lake itself isn't massive. It is just over 2kms and this spot where I am at, is probably the most "calm" spot. Apart from fishing there isn't much going on here. There are other spots, like next to the alps where more activities like windsurfing, a spot where you can barbecue and also swim, and on the opposite of that, as much as I noticed, A LOT of standing paddle boarding. Way more than Jumeirah beach.

On the gravel path, there is a long info-board overlooking the lake that speaks about Lungern municipality, and the history of this lake and reservoir.
The lake isn't simply an unreal view, or a place for swimming and yachting, but it also is of very high significance to the area.

According to this text the lake was reduced significantly to create more land for the growing people, fertile land to be precise. Later on, the water was used to create energy. The board also has pictures of the energy facility. It also has a couple of local flora shown and the names and heights of the peaks and places around the lake.

Further down the gravel path, there is a commemoration to the "150 Jahre Frauengemeinscthaftl Lungern", 150 years of Women's Community in Lungern. It is a beautiful wooden throne with a gorgeous water tap that pools into a wooden trunk sink. I wish I could tell you more about this community that has stuck through 150 long years, but although I did take a gander at the info booklet, German proved not to be my strongest suit.

I have never been fishing. The closest I got to finishing was making a plan with Genadi back in Kharkov but it never came to fruition. The entire thing is a giant mystery to me, especially when I come across forums where they discuss baits that look more like an elaborate contemporary art piece than "bait".

But I got down to those rocks I mentioned before. This is where I'd meet Mr. S. The language barrier meant we couldn't talk as much, but he was nice enough to let me sit and watch him "fish".

From what I could gander, he said something along the lines of fishing is allowed here (duh, there's a whole fishing shop behind us, mr) but if you want to barbecue them then you'd have to move to designated area. I did some digging online and it seems that rainbow trout and pike are among the few local fish in the lake. I can only imagine how much easier it'd be to fish in the winter when the water goes down.

There's more than just fish. I continued down the gravel path, keeping close to the lake as much as possible. There's a very short pier, but either no boats. There were fishermen though. I stood there taking in the beautiful views. That's when I caught something else on camera...

Oh, hello there.
But do you see how clear the water is? And how seamlessly the transition from clear to emral green to blue is? So beautiful!

This is one of those places that really feels unreal. Have I already said that? Like I said, I would have to leave pretty soon but before sundown we somehow ended up back at the lake. This time at the Inseli Lungern. This where a lot of barbecue-ing was happening, along with swimming.

From here I could see the Seabar at the opposite end of the lake where the stand up paddleboarders were coming from, too.

Tip: There's another way you can always get a very good glance of the unreal lake. If you're travelling by train then the Lucerne to Interlaken route passes by this lake. I got a picture of it passing by right here:

Looks like the perfect place to spend a week or two, to see if you want to move there or not 😄

Switzerland is a beautiful country and has a lot to offer but there are a lot of barriers as well.

Regardless, it's on my list 😎

I think it wouldn't even take a week or two to decide, it is pretty unbelievably beautiful and if I could I would move there for sure. Imagine waking up to this view. Now that also makes me wonder how long would it take to get bored of the view...hmmm...

Let me ask you something. How long it takes to get bored of the concrete jungle you see when you look out the window?

Do you fish? If you do can you tell me if it is more pleasant to fish at such a location than others... I am curios.
