Ciconia nigra Čáp Černý · Black Stork

Latin nameObservation dateLocation
Ciconia nigra14.6.2025Dírná, South Bohemia, Czech republic

Just 20 years ago, black storks were rare, and white storks were the ones you saw.
Now the situation has reversed in South Bohemia. The white storks have simply disappeared, and black storks are the ones you see.
It must be because they live in the forests, near streams and forest ponds. White storks mainly roam open terrain, where there are farmers, chemicals, and so on. At least, that’s how I explain it to myself.
