46 observations of The green-veined white (Pieris napi)

A circumboreal species widespread across Europe and Asia, including the Indian subcontinent, Japan, the Maghreb and North America. It is found in meadows, hedgerows and woodland glades but not as often in gardens and parks like its close relatives the large and small whites, for which it is often mistaken. Like other "white" butterflies, the sexes differ. The female has two spots on each forewing, the male only one. The veins on the wings of the female are usually more heavily marked. The underside hindwings are pale yellow with the veins highlighted by black scales giving a greenish tint, hence green-veined white.

Bělásek řepkový (Pieris napi) je středně velký motýl, jeden z téměř dvaceti druhů z čeledě běláskovitých, kteří se vyskytují v přírodě České republiky. Po taxonomické stránce je druh blíže zařazen do podčeledě bělásků (Pierinae).
Nejčastěji mívá rozpětí křídel od 35 do 45 mm. Ve vzhledu se projevuje pohlavní dichroismus, samička má při zadním okraji předního křídla obvykle dvě výrazné černé skvrny a sytější černé poprášení svrchní strany křídel, celkově působí tmavším dojmem. Žíly na křídlech motýlů vypadají jako šedě posýpané. Jarní generace bývá více vybarvená a prokreslená, je znána i žlutá forma.

Jeden hezký pražský bělásek. Na území Prahy je i hodně lesů, polí, různé potoky, rybníky a velká řeka. V dosahu MHD se dají dělat pěkné fotovýlety.

Group from Bohemian Karst. I remember them well. There was a big fireplace in the meadow, they probably burned brushwood there and there were a lot of butterflies on that charcoal-filled area. Multiple species.

Skupina z Českého krasu. Na ty si dobře pamatuji. Na louce bylo velké ohniště, nejspíš tam pálili klestí a na té ploše plné dřevěného uhlí byla spousta motýlů. Víc druhů.
