Nafplio - a Mini Hive Meetup

As Hivefest was getting closer the FOMO was getting real. And two weeks before the event i realized it is not happening for a lot of various reasons.

So there was only one logical thing to do. Go on vacation.
Nafplio (31).jpg

The plan was always to spend 6 days at one place and @fotostef mentioned Parga some time ago. (more on Parga in another post) After few days there i still didn't have an idea where to go next and half jokingly asked him if he knows someone who is renting in Nafplio. Post about getting to Hive Fest were already out there so a mini Hive meat up was in my mind.
Nafplio (2).jpg

@fotostef answer was no, but he will be happy to help me with picking a good location. Frist place i sent, his answer was "close to everything and not even 5 minutes from our place".

So if you randomly pick a place to stay and you pick the one that is in the neighborhood of @traisto and @fotostef, and the place is available for the days i planed to stay, 5 hours of driving will not stop me :)

Nafplio (1).jpg

5 hours of driving sounds ok, and it is for like 3 hours :) But i can say that the main roads in Greece are actually really good.

Nafplio (4).jpg

We got to Nafplio around 5PM, checked in, throw our bags and i sent Stef a message. Hive Fest Amsterdam was my first meeting people from online world and i can say it was a pleasant surprise.

My second one was about to happen, again because of Hive. And even you do have some expectations how will it go, you never know.

I am happy to say that after maybe 2-3 awkward sentences of hellos it clicked like if i know @traisto and @fotostef my whole life. And they were wonderful hosts. Nafplio is @traisto hometown so she was the main tourist guide. A running joke was my f-up knee and will to avoid stairs and i must say she really tried to do that 😂.

Nafplio (7).jpg

4 of us (my sister @cake.depression, we still don't know did she lost the Hive keys or not :) ) spent 3 days together. On the second day, while hanging out at a beach Stef suggested a photowalk. I am always happy to take photos (walks make more sense with taking photos :) ), we got Fotini to pick up the camera and my sister had to endure 3 photographers on photo mode ON 😁

Nafplio (8).jpg

My curse of buying prime lenses and not owning a zoom is most evident on photowalks and after every one of them i say i will buy a zoom :)

Nafplio Syntagma Square (11).jpg

It is always interesting to see what other people see through the lens when walking together, and how similar or different the shots will be.

Nafplio (15).jpg

I think there is an art in taking photos of these small narrow streets and i still didn't master it :)

At one point i got drown to these white and blue bots, i think i have 5-6 more in the archive.

We were really close to a beautiful sunset, there was just a bit more clouds than needed for that.

You will see the Bourtzi Castle in the photos a lot. It is kinda there in the middle of the sea, and it is hard to miss :)

Another post with a lot of photos and not so many words, i am not great at words, maybe that is the reason i take phots.

Driving the extra mile (or few) to go to Nafplio and meet Stef and Fotini was definitely worth it (maybe i will fly next time 😂 ). Meeting new "real life" Hive friends was again a great experience (sad we didn't get Markos to join us on our walks, hope he is doing better). 3 days was just not enough, but that will probably be an excuse for the next trip.

Expect at least one more post from Nafplio, with all the facts Fotini shared with us. Till then check out this walk from two other perspectives:

Traisto: Meeting Hivers as large as life!
FotoStef: My very first hive meet-up

I was late with publishing the post so i could add links :) It is interesting how some shots from the walk were different and those few that were almost the same :D

This is my contribution to the #wednesdaywalk challenge, a great initiative, hosted by @tattoodjay

(Edited)

i had two of those and i must say it has 100% of great xp :) could be maybe something about Hive and people here :)

HiveBeeCon was tempting as the trip was doable (from the travel and papers perspective) but i just got home few days ago and the state wants it taxes till the 15th. So from the job perspective it would be almost impossible.

You are going?

i think everyone at the firm would just quit if i would say i am going on a trip for few days just now :D

I saw that there is a good amount of people going.

but i see that these small meetups are popping up around Europe quite frequently now.

I have seen @traisto post and as I said in the comment on his even though you walked the same areas, I was sure each has there own perspective and style and seeing your post i see that is true

Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk :)

True I did notice that view you all shared, but still with the different cameras and or possible edits they have a different feel or mood

That's an amazing meet up and I'm glad that you mentioned that the road in Greece is good
I think they have a very good government

i am not sure most people in Greece would agree with the government statement 😂 but the highways are pretty good i must admit.

Greece is indeed a beautiful and much more than beautiful country. These shots are really cinematic and breathtaking. Cloud's formation at that moment is so heart captivating. The castle in the middle is looking like a castle for hope. Are you scratching your head ? That why I said castle of hope. Like everyone who sails in the sea will always wish or hope to see the castle.
Oh, yeah I forgot to say that in every conversation with a stranger I also do awkward hellos same like you. But sometimes it gets difficult to catch up in a little time. On the other hand I am quite happy that you caught the vibe and you talked like you know them from ages.

Greece is indeed beautiful. now driving around it i feel like castles for them are like normal thing, not sure do they even notice them, they are everywhere 😂

What a great place for taking awesome photos! 😃 Of course, for people who know how to take photos, like you and your "hosts"! Thanks for sharing this story and images!

I was hoping to see you at HiveBeeCon in Krakow, but I suppose that you fed your HiveFest "not going" with this meetup... We will do the same in a few days in Poland... :)

HiveBeeCon crossed my mind, unfortunately these next 10 days will be a bit crazy at work. quartal PDV, so everyone's taxes are till the 15th.

i seen there will be a good number of people there, should be fun.

Everyone likes taxes... NOT! 😂

i seen there will be a good number of people there, should be fun.

The last mentioned number is 24 confirmed participants! 😱
When we decided it was like 5-6... Nobody expected this many people, but it looks that a lot of us had the same logic... We missed HiveFest, but we have to visit some other meetup! 😃

Addicted to Hive meetups!

It is very good now the way we see many people gathering and meeting each other the way you have met all the people this place is really more beautiful and when the weather is like this. If it becomes like this, the beauty of such places becomes more and more.

Nice to see another travel post from you. Did you drive down there?

fortunately with stops. i was in Parga first. that 12 hour drive was surprisingly easy. From Parga to Nafplio is 5 hours. And going back it said 13 hours but i think google maps were drunk :) so i was happy that i made a decision to stop in Thessaloniki.
think flying is a much better option :)

Through Parga, so you took the Western Coast. We had from Arad, till the south of Olympus mountain, around of 10 hours drive, but we have been lucky with the 3 border crossing, at Kikinda, Presevo and because of high traffic, we took the Dojran lake route, which was empty. On the way back, also close to 10 hours, but this time via Bogorodica, Presevo and Vrsac.

Next time you are in Greece, you should write to the King of Malakas, captain Onan himself, Mr. Sir Bro @trumpman, who is continuing the Greek tradition and might be bff of Kasselakis.

borders were almost empty for my trip there and back. max 5 min wait if even that. it was off season no troubles with that. on the way back i had 4 hours of heavy rain, after some time you recognize how big are the rain drops by the sound they make on your car :)

I seen in the post that you were on some lake in Macedonia. i thought you styed there for a night.

and i can now say i drove around Greece. not sure i will do it again. maybe if i get a camper one day :)

and it is weird how i am always more tired getting home from vacation :)

i do know trumpman is there somewhere. not sure exactly where.

I'm so glad to hear that you had such a wonderful time in Nafplio and that you got to meet up with @traisto and @fotostef! It sounds like you had a great time exploring the city together and taking photos.

I also really like the photo of the hallway. It's so atmospheric and mysterious,.

I think your post is a wonderful tribute to Nafplio and the Hive community. It's clear that you had a special time there, and I'm sure your photos will inspire others to visit this beautiful city.

thanks :)

the spooky hallway actually leads to an elevator for a pretty big fancy 5* hotel :) (think it is ranked as 5* not sure if it is)
