Hello fellow travelers, continuing with my vacation I would like to take you to the Shrine of Dr. Jose Gregorio Hernandez located in Isnotu, a town in the state of Trujillo, Venezuela. To Venezuelans I will not have to explain who Dr. Jose Gregorio Hernandez is since he is well known by all, by believers of the Catholic religion and non-believers as well.

Hola amigos viajeros, continuando con mis vacaciones quisiera llevarlos al Santuario del Dr. José Gregorio Hernández ubicado en Isnotú, un pueblo del estado Trujillo- Venezuela. A los venezolanos no tendré que explicarles quién es el Dr. José Gregorio Hernández ya que es bien conocido por todos, por los creyentes de la religión católica y los no creyentes también.

José Gregorio Hernández is known as the Doctor of the Poor and is the fourth Blessed of Venezuela, declared so on April 30, 2021 in Caracas, Venezuela. He was born in Isnotú and that is why here is the Shrine to which his devotees travel from all corners of Venezuela to thank him for the favors received.

About 12 years ago I had the opportunity to visit this place and I remembered it differently, now at the entrance of the town they made a big highway with a huge sign that guides you on the way. The entrance to the Sanctuary was also modified, now the place is closed on all sides, it has two large gates and bars around it, the interior walls are lined with plaques that the devotees carry with the following dedication: Thank you Dr. José Gregorio Hernández for the miracle granted and the name of the person or family that thanks.

José Gregorio Hernández es conocido como el Médico de los pobres y es el cuarto Beato de Venezuela, declarado así el 30 de abril de 2021 en Caracas, Venezuela. Nació en Isnotú y por eso aquí está el Santuario al que viajan sus devotos desde todos los rincones de Venezuela para agradecerle los favores recibidos.

Hace unos 12 años tuve la oportunidad de visitar este lugar y lo recordaba diferente, ahora a la entrada del pueblo hicieron una gran autopista con un enorme letrero que te guía en el camino. La entrada al Santuario también fue modificada, ahora el lugar está cerrado por todos lados, tiene dos grandes portones y rejas a su alrededor, las paredes interiores están forradas con placas que llevan los devotos con la siguiente dedicatoria: Gracias Dr. José Gregorio Hernández por el milagro concedido y el nombre de la persona o familia que agradece.

Isnotú is a small town where the only tourism that takes place is religious, therefore people enter and leave the Sanctuary after taking pictures in the different areas where the images of the Blessed and the Virgin of Coromoto are located, they also enter the church to pray and give thanks, We arrived when the Eucharist was ending, so we only participated in the last part when the priest interviewed all the attendees to ask them where they came from and there were people from Caracas, Miranda, Nueva Esparta, Aragua, Zulia and Trujillo also visit the souvenir store and enter the museum. On this occasion we were not able to enter the museum as it was under renovation, but we learned that the entrance fee per person is $5.00.

Isnotú es un pueblo pequeño dónde el único turismo que se realiza es religioso, por lo tanto las personas entran y salen del Santuario luego de tomar fotografías en las diferentes áreas donde se encuentran las imágenes del Beato y la Virgen de Coromoto, también entran a la iglesia para rezar y dar gracias, nosotros llegamos cuando estaba terminando la eucaristía, así que solo participamos en la última parte cuando el sacerdote entrevistó a todos los asistentes para preguntarles de dónde venían y habían personas de Caracas, Miranda, Nueva Esparta, Aragua, Zulia y Trujillo también visitan la tienda de recuerdos y entran al museo. En esta ocasión nosotros no pudimos entrar al museo ya que estaba en remodelación, pero nos enteramos que la entrada por persona tiene un costo de 5$.

In the store you can buy all kinds of religious souvenirs with the image of José Gregorio Hernández. Also for sale was a beautiful painting handmade in 2022, but I could not see the name of the artist who did the painting. One of the things that amazed me is that the walls of the store are also lined with plaques of gratitude to the Blessed.

En la tienda se pueden comprar todo tipo de recuerdos religiosos con la imagen de José Gregorio Hernández. También estaba a la venta un precioso cuadro hecho a mano en 2022, pero no pude ver el nombre del artista que lo pintó. Una de las cosas que me sorprendió es que las paredes de la tienda también están forradas con placas de agradecimiento al beato.

In the front of the Sanctuary we find the church of the parish, there is the original mosaic of Dr. José Gregorio Hernández, elaborated by plastic artist Luis Enrique Mogollón who also made a replica of this work for the beatification in Caracas and another one of great size for his native state of Lara.

En todo el frente del Santuario encontramos la iglesia de la parroquia, allí está el mosaico original del Dr. José Gregorio Hernández, elaborado por artista plástico Luis Enrique Mogollón quien también realizó una réplica de esta obra para la beatificación en Caracas y otra de gran tamaño para su natal estado Lara.
