CCC's Street Art Contest #128 MarMotto, Faro, Portugal

avatar

Just recently after I visited Faro for thw first time I´ve found a pretty cool mural with an important message. As we drove out of town, we passed under a bridge and I was immediately struck by this huge colorful work of art. I immediately looked for a parking space, ran back and took a few photos.

This piece of art already looks a bit older but the message that the artist MarMotto wants to tell us still stands. Although I think it might be too late already here at the Algarve.

Our oceans need to be protected from overfishing.

This time I really had to take a few shots of it as it was simply to big to get the details on one shot. The whole mural was easily 15-20m in length.

I absolutely love and support the message behind that piece of art. I spend a lot of time in the water surfing and what I saw here in Portugal is the fact that I don´t see anything. No fish or other marine life at all. In the past 2 years I´ve spent easily 50 days in the water surfing and the only thing I saw was one Octopus and a few tiny little fishes...that´s it. When I was surfing Australia, what probably has a similar problem, I saw Dolphins, big fishes, Manta Rays, Sharks, Turtles and so on...

Great mural with this style and color. And the message is important too. I was at the beach in Peru, it's incredible the plastic pollution, I brought a bag to collect what I could but it seemed completely useless. Thanks for sharing these pics on The StreetArt Community.

Thanks

Regarding picking up garbage at the beach I´ve got a nice story to tell:

I did this as well on beaches on Bali, where there were regular beach clean ups. I did this until I saw where its coming from. It comes from the rivers inland where they dump it with huge trucks into the river. So yes, in my opinion its useless but I still pick up when I see something laying around.

As your story said, completely useless but I can't help picking up 😀

Me too. On the other hand, any rubbish that doesn´t go back into the ocean is good, so it actually helps.

Hello @betterthanhome this is very interesting art indeed!

It is strange looking.

Wow that's isn't good that you didn't see marine life!!!

That is awful. I hope that the people can somehow help marine life come back in this area.
