Hello there, black-and-white photography lovers!

This is my entry for the monomad challenge.

Since I've gotten more practice on my sharpening skills, I decided to take out the ceramic whet stone for a ride and get working on the edge of all my tools. They needed some sharpening and getting them up to 6000 grit with almost a mirror-polish surface was a amazing.

The stone is very responsive but also aggressive. So if you don't pay attention to the movements, you might screw up the tool and will need to do some other work to give it back its cutting angle.

Here are some takes of the process plus the slurry developed by the stone, water and the steel from the tools. It looks weird, but that's when you know the thing its doing its magic.

Shaper tools are way safer than blunt ones. At least when it comes to cutting.

Afilando herramientas

Como ya tengo más practica con el tema del afilado, decidí sacar mi piedra de amolar de cerámica para darle uso. Mis herramientas necesitaban este mantenimiento. Llegar hasta un grano 6000 y tener casi un acabado de espejo es un detalle genial. Del filo, no se diga. Todavía no puedo hacer eso de afeitarme con la herramienta, pero a eso llegaré con más práctica.

La piedra respond muy bien al contacto, pero es bastante agresiva. Si no estás pendiente del trabajo, es muy fácil que se coma buena parte del filo. Ahí habría que volver a trabajar para recupersar el ángulo de corte de las herramientas.

Aquí hay unas tomas del proceso con las herramientas, el agua y la combinación entre el acero, piedra y líquido que se forma sobre la piedra. Esto es lo que hace posible que las herramientas adquieran filo al contacto.

Una herramienta afilada es más segura que una que ha perdido el filo. Al menos, cuando se trata de cortar.
