Surprise yourself with a beautiful Barcelona at Christmas time

This walk happened coincidentally on a Wednesday in early December 2023.

Hola queridos amigos de Hive y de Wednesday Walk! Espero que estén pasando un día precioso! En esta oportunidad pasearemos por Barcelona en lo que es una previa impresionante de Navidad, y también iremos hacia la playa por un momento.

Esta caminata ocurrió casualmente un día miércoles de principios de diciembre de este mismo 2023.

I was first amazed by the Sant Jaume square in Barcelona, which I reached by being driven through the beautiful little streets of the Gothic Quarter, an already well-known area of the city.

This square was fully decorated for Christmas, offering the visitor a beautiful nativity scene full of characters that was so large that about 25 people would enter across the width of the square to observe it.

Near this nativity scene there were many more decorations, such as red pine trees that shone from the Palace of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

In addition, how not to mention, a beautiful and gigantic Christmas tree full of lights and decorations stood in a corner of the square, waiting anxiously for its visitors.

Primero quedé sorprendida con la plaza de Sant Jaume en Barcelona, a la que llegué siendo conducida por las hermosas callecitas del Barrio Gótico, un área ya sumamente conocida de la ciudad.

Esta plaza estaba totalmente decorada de Navidad, brindando al visitante un hermoso pesebre repleto de personajes que era tan grande que alrededor de 25 personas entraban a lo ancho para observarlo.

Cerca de este pesebre habían muchos más adornos, como unos pinos rojos que resplandecían desde el Palacio de la Generalitat de Cataluña.

Además, cómo no mencionarlo, un bellísimo y gigantesco ´rbol navideño repleto de luces y decorados se erguía en una esquina de la plaza, esperando ansioso por sus visitantes.

I spent quite some time in that square, enjoying the wonders of the Christmas Eve that I was experiencing for the first time in Barcelona. However, I quickly opted to head to the beach, which was about a 20-minute walk away.

Being close to the sea, I could not miss it.

In this way, walking through different areas of the Gothic Quarter, I managed to reach Port Vell, and then approached La Barceloneta.

The area was beautiful and the day, cool but sunny, accompanied that beautiful walk.

I let myself be surprised by a giant lobster that started the coast, which on one side presented us with some boats waiting to be used and on the other, the beach area itself.

Pasé bastante tiempo en aquella plaza, disfrutando de las maravillas de las vísperas de Navidad que por primera vez vivía en Barcelona. Sin embargo, rápidamente opté por dirigirme hacia la playa, que estaba a unos 20 minutos caminando de distancia.

Es que estando cerca del mar, no podía dejar de visitarlo.

De esta manera, recorriendo diferentes espacios del Barrio Gótico, logré llegar a Port Vell, para luego acercarme hacia La Barceloneta.

La zona estaba preciosa y el día, fresco pero soleado, acompañaba a aquella hermosa caminata.

Me dejé sorprender por una langosta gigante que daba inicio a la costa, en la que de un lado nos presentaba algunos barcos esperando a ser utilizados y del otro, el sector propiamente de playa.

I approached a bit first by this boat space, looking for good angles for photos and beautiful scenery, and managed to capture some interesting spots.

And then, I went without hesitation to the beach area, where I sat for a moment on a kind of deck chairs that have been installed in front of the sea for public use.

I took my feet off for a moment, as I was wearing sheep for that urban walk, so I took the opportunity to relax a little, but then I sat down at a bar to drink a bottle of water.

Afterwards, I returned, and by the time I passed through the Gothic Quarter again, I couldn't help but visit the Plaza de Sant Jaume again, as its lights were shining in the night. Of course I took more pictures.

Me acerqué un poco primero por este espacio de botes, en busca de ángulos buenos para las fotos y bellos paisajes, y logré capturar unos interesantes puntos.

Y luego, fui sin dudarlo a la zona de la playa, en donde me senté por un momento en una especie de reposeras que han instalado frente al mar para el uso público.

Descasé un momento mis pies, pues llevaba borregos para aquel paseo urbano, así que aproveché para relajarme un poco, aunque luego me senté en un bar a beber una botella de agua.

Posteriormente, regresé, y para cuando pasé nuevamente por el Barrio Gótico, no pude evitar visitar la Plaza de Sant Jaume nuevamente, pues sus luces brillaban en la noche. Claro que tomé más fotos.

Then, when I was already determined to return to the hotel, the Plaza Real appeared on my left side tempting me with its illuminated arches. I was quite tired, as the day had been quite long. But I could not stop seeing that square decorated inside, this time waiting for Christmas.

So I went inside and of course I continued to be surprised by what was in front of my eyes. Added to this was a very harmonious movement of visitors, enjoying tapas, Spanish omelettes, beer, sangria, while also taking pictures in the beautiful square.

Finally, I must mention the views of La Rambla. Although I did not take too many photos because it was too busy and I was advised to take care of my cell phone, I managed to take some pictures to show you the beauty offered by this pedestrian area from about 6 pm.

Luego, cuando ya estaba decidida a regresar al hotel, la Plaza Real se presentó en mi costado izquierdo tentándome con sus arcos iluminados. Estaba bastante cansada, pues el día había sido bastante largo. Pero no podía dejar de ver aquella plaza decorada en el interior, esta vez esperando la Navidad.

Así que entré y claro que seguí sorprendiéndome con lo que estaba frente a mis ojos. A ello se le sumaba un movimiento muy armonioso de los visitantes, que disfrutaban de tapas, tortillas españolas, cerveza, sangría, mientras también se tomaban fotos en la bellísima plaza.

Finalmente, debo mencionar las vistas de La Rambla. Aunque no tomé demasiadas fotos porque estaba excesivamente transitada y me recomendaron cuidar el móvil, logré hacer unas capturas para mostrarles la belleza que ofrecía este sector peatonal a partir de las 6 pm aproximadamente.

I must say that Barcelona completely surprised me. I did not expect to see the city like this and it was a beauty to find this Spanish icon almost completely illuminated.

The last time I had seen Barcelona, it was during the pandemic, in 2022, and it had nothing to do with this new panorama. People were happy in the streets, tourists were enjoying photos and attractions, restaurants were wide open, waiting for their diners.

Debo decir que Barcelona me sorprendió por completo. No me esperaba ver así a la ciudad y fue una belleza encontrarme con este ícono español casi totalmente iluminado.

La última vez que había visto a Barcelona, fue durante la pandemia, en 2022, y no tenía nada que ver con este nuevo panorama. La gente estaba feliz por las calles, los turistas disfrutaban de fotos y atracciones, los restaurantes abiertos de par en par, esperaban a sus comensales.

Una belleza. Espero haberlos guiado bien por esta caminata amigos.
