Let's go for a walk in Park Güell, one of Barcelona's greatest artistic expressions

Several times I had heard about Park Güell, but once I was in Barcelona. From my country, no one had recommended me this beautiful destination of one of the most visited cities in the world, so once there, I said: why not give it a try?

Today my friends from Hive and Pinmapple, took me for a walk through this exotic park that is located high above Barcelona and offers unparalleled panoramic views.

This place was created by the acclaimed and renowned Antoni Gaudi, the architect who also has the creation (still under construction) of the Sagrada Familia and other buildings, previously mentioned in some other post of my authorship in Hive.

Vamos a pasear a Park Güell, una de las mayores expresiones artísticas de Barcelona

Varias veces había escuchado sobre el Park Güell, pero una vez estando en Barcelona. Desde mi país, nadie me había recomendado este hermoso destino de una de las ciudades más visitadas del mundo, así que una vez allá, dije: ¿por qué no darle una oportunidad?

Hoy mis amigos de Hive y de Pinmapple, me los llevo a pasear por este exótico parque que se encuentra en lo alto de Barcelona y que ofrece vistas panorámicas sin igual.

Este lugar fue creado por el aclamado y reconocido Antoni Gaudí, el arquitecto que también cuenta con la creación (aún en construcción) de la Sagrada Familia y otros edificios, previamente mencionados en algún que otro post de mi autoría en Hive.

The technique of trencadís and the magic of Park Güell

The particularity of Park Güell in relation to Gaudí, is that it is not only a place to contemplate, but it is a walkable area. It might seem logical and comparable to his other creations that, like the Sagrada Familia, also allows circulation within such a work of art.

However, the Park Güell offers a unique landscape in the open. It is a natural area created on a natural area that invites its visitors to practically move around dancing among its trees, its dirt roads, its slopes and its nooks and crannies.

And when I speak of a natural space within a natural space, I mean that, as Gaudí did with the Sagrada Familia, he was inspired by nature itself to create Park Güell, recreating animals and trees even in a place where the terrain offers these creatures.

The latter makes it a special place, which added to the trencadís, which is the use of tiles with different shapes to create something particular (you can see more information about this in the following source: españaescultura.es, which is where I found the name of the technique used by Gaudí), can transport those who walk through Park Güell to a dreamlike place and unexplored imaginary scenarios. For this reason and for the permanent stimulation it offers with its shapes and colors, I think it is a perfect place to take children.

La técnica de trencadís y la magia del Park Güell

La particularidad del Park Güell en relación con Gaudí, es que no se trata únicamente de un lugar a contemplar, sino que es un área transitable. Podría parecer lógico y comparable con sus otras creaciones que, como la Sagrada Familia, también permite la circulación dentro de semejante obra de arte.

Sin embargo el PArk Güell, nos ofrece un paisaje único al descubierto. Es un área natural creada sobre un área natural que invita a que sus visitantes prácticamente se desplacen danzando entre sus árboles, sus caminos de tierra, sus desniveles y sus recovecos.

Y cuando hablo de un espacio natural dentro de otro espacio natural, me refiero a que, al igual que hizo Gaudí con la sagrada familia, se inspira en la misma naturaleza para montar el Park Güell, recreando animales y árboles incluso en un lugar en donde el terreno ofrece esas criaturas.

Esto último lo hace un lugar especial, que sumado al trencadís, que es el uso de azulejos con diferentes formas para crear algo particular (pueden ver más información sobre esto en la siguiente fuente: españaescultura.es, que es donde encontré el nombre de la técnica utilizada por Gaudí), pueden llegar a trasladar a quien pisa el Park Güell a un lugar de ensueño y a escenarios imaginarios inexplorados. Por este motivo y por la permanente estimulación que ofrece con sus formas y colores, creo que es un lugar perfecto para llevar a los niños.

Price and recognition

The entrance fee is around €10, but if you want a guided tour, the price is more than €20, here I leave more information about this. Both prices seem to me excellent for the wonder that this space offers.

It is also key to note that Park Güell has been recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, so we are facing a truly great work, very friendly, fun, loaded with history, art and culture. It is undoubtedly a strategic point to visit if you visit Barcelona.

Precio y reconocimiento

La entrada ronda los €10, pero si deseas una visita guiada, el precio es de más de €20, aquí dejo más información sobre esto. Ambos precios me parecen excelentes para la maravilla que ofrece este espacio.

También es clave señalar que el Park Güell ha sido reconocido como Patrimonio Mundial por la UNESCO, por lo que estamos ante una obra verdaderamente de gran envergadura, muy amigable, divertida, que carga con historia, arte y cultura. Es indudable que es un punto estratégico a visitar si visitas Barcelona.

Park location

This site is very close to the city, in fact I walked there. It is on one of the slopes of Carmelo hill, about 200 meters above sea level.

You can get there by bus or cab as well, of course a bicycle would also be an option, or you can venture to walk.

This last option, which is the one that I chose, has the trick of offering escalators to ascend. It is something like walking down the street and simply seeing on the map that you have to turn. And then you ask the search engine in your mind: well, where do you want me to go? But when you look up you see the escalator and you understand everything.

The only thing a bit cynical about this option, is that there are stairs that are out of order, so you have to choose to go up the regular ones, which you'll see on the side. When I went, there were two, out of many (I don't remember how many), broken down. It didn't really bother me, but I don't know how often they break and how many can be in that condition.

Ubicación del parque

Este sitio se encuentra muy cerca de la ciudad, de hecho yo caminé hasta llegar allí. Está en una de las laderas del cerro Carmelo, a unos 200 metros de altura.

Puedes acercarte en bus o en taxi también, claro que la bicicleta sería igualmente una opción, o puedes aventurarte a caminar.

Esta última opción que como les comento es la que elegí, tiene la picardía de ofrecer escaleras mecánicas para ascender. Es algo así como ir caminando por la calle y sencillamente ver en el mapa que hay que girar. Y entonces le preguntas en tu mente al buscador: pues bien, ¿a dónde quieres que me meta? Pero cuando elevas la vista ves la escalera mecánica y entiendes todo.

Lo único un poco cínico por parte de esta opción, es que hay escaleras que están averiadas, por lo que hay que optar por subir por las comunes, que verás a un costado. Cuando fui, había dos, de muchas (no recuerdo cuántas), averiadas. No me molestó la verdad, pero desconozco con qué frecuencia se rompen y cuántas pueden estar en esas condiciones.

More wonders of Güell

As you can see in the pictures, the park offers walking trails, an exquisite panoramic view of the city of Barcelona, and a magnificent diversity of trees. If you stop to observe for a few minutes, you will always find some detail that like magic, is posing before your eyes, as it happened to me with that heart that I found in a trunk and that you can see in the pictures.

It is a place that is usually full of people, adults, children, solo travelers, couples, because it is really well known.

Más maravillas de Güell

Como verán en las imágenes, el parque ofrece senderos a caminar, una vista panorámica exquisita de la ciudad de Barcelona, y una diversidad de árboles magnífica. Si te detienes a observar unos minutos además, siempre encuentras algún detalle que como magia, está posando ante tus ojos, tal como me ocurrió con ese corazón que hallé en un tronco y que pueden observar en las fotos.

Es un lugar que suele estar repleto de gente, adultos, niños, viajeros solos, parejas, pues es verdaderamente muy conocido.

This makes it difficult to take good pictures, unless you go as early in the morning as possible, which is when the areas generally offer very beautiful scenery so there are few people.

On this occasion I went at sunset and many other tourists did the same, hehe.
You can also enjoy the fountain, the small waterfall that plunges to the ground at one of the entrances, and the captivating trencadís that is offered everywhere, even on the sidewalk of the park.

Ello dificulta sacar buenas fotos, salvo que vayas en un horario de mañana lo más temprano posible, que es cuando generalmente los espacios ofrecen escenarios muy bellos por lo que hay poca gente.

En esta ocasión fui al atardecer y muchos otros turistas hicieron lo mismo, jeje.
Igualmente pueden disfrutar de la fuente, de esa pequeña cascada que se hunde hacia el piso en una de las entradas, y del cautivante trencadís que se ofrece por doquier, incluso en la vereda del parque.
