Contemporary Art in Hannover (Germany): between murals and sculptures
Hello to all the dear creators in the great Hive community!
With this post I join the #monomad challenge of the day, with the aim of sharing with you nooks and crannies of Hannover, Germany, which keep inside beautiful pieces of Contemporary Art, distributed in sculptures and graffiti.
The city even offers a tour to walk through all its murals, which I did not do because I was working and because of the winter, it was getting late at dawn and it was getting dark very early, add it to the Christmas markets that I had the pleasure to visit, I could only walk through some graffiti and I came across several really incredible sculptures.
For this post, I made a specific compilation of these pieces that I was capturing in my walks around the city, and I will also share some scenery to provide context to the works.
Let's get started!
Graffiti painted by Mr. Dheo, Portugal
This is an artist who has painted many murals in different cities, and one of my first days there in Hannover, I was crossing a random street, and suddenly I saw this masterpiece.
Vamos a comenzar!
Graffiti painted by Mr. Dheo, Portugal
Love locks
These are padlocks that have been placed on a bridge overlooking the Maschsee River. I was able to enjoy them only at night or on cloudy days, but it was still a very nice picture. And although they were apparently spontaneously placed padlocks, they had been perfectly ordered and arranged in a very neat way, being very coherent with the urban landscape of the city.
Hangover by Andreas von Weizsaecker Raschplatz
This is a realistic sculpture of three life-size cars, placed under a bridge, upside down. The cars are white and quite striking to look at.
They are located near the train station, called Hauptbahnhof.
Sculpture Dicker Mann frisst Maus (Fat man eats mouse)
This sculpture is huge and as you can see, its shape is very geometric. It is perfectly maintained and is located very close to the Stadtpark.
Its author is Christian Schd.
Graffiti in Podbi Park
This is simply a mural that I found very close to the school where I was working, it is located in that I estimate parking space, Podbi Park.
The mural is due to the H. Bahlsen Keks factory, which is a food factory based in Hannover.
Chess in Stadpark
On my way to the huge Tiertgarten in Hannover, I came across the Stadpark and was very curious about that neat and perfectly well maintained park, so I decided to go a little bit into it. The decision was perfect, as I was surprised with different creations, among them, this giant chess set.
The elephant of Hannover
In the city center, there are many decorations, ranging from the strong and dramatic, much of it related to real events in the history of Germany and the city, to cute elements that make Hannover, a very changeable city that will make you go from one emotion to another in a matter of seconds.
This cute elephant is very close to a small urban cemetery.

Rossman Grafitti
On Berliner Allee, you can find this huge graffiti, in honor of the huge German drugstore chain, Rossman. In these stores they sell products of all kinds, mainly oriented to personal care. It was one of the places I most liked to visit, these stores, because they had products that I had never seen in Argentina, much less over-the-counter. Among them I could mention all-natural "medicines".

Doll of... stones!
Near the elephant, there was this doll. Winter had come to the city and they had decided to make this huge doll, probably to support the snow that was about to fall, and thus accompany the citizens in that cold time in northern Germany.
Sculptures in front of cemetery
I could not find the name of this work, but they are located in front of the cemetery of the Neustädter Friedhof park. They are very striking because they are a bit at the entrance of this cemetery that is located in the city, so cars and people are constantly passing around them, and if you are walking, you suddenly see these figures, somewhat unexpectedly.
Esculturas frente a cementerio
Posters under a bridge
In Hannover there are several walkways for both cars and people under bridges. As it is an area naturally trafficked by pedestrians, in some places advertisements are shared as is the case with this one, where you can also notice some spontaneous art or what could be vandalism. I also leave images of how everything looks under the bridges, since from my perspective, it is art in itself. Very industrial style, but I like it a lot.
Brunnen "Spielende Kinder" (Fountain of "Playing Children") by Kurt Lehmann
This sculpture from 1956 shows two children playing and is located on Grupenstrasse, a street very close to the Marktkirche church. It is very beautiful to pass by that block, since it is made for pedestrians, and suddenly one comes across this image, which manages to give a touch of tenderness to the moment.

Wonderful pictures of my hometown Hannover.
Thank you so much for sharing your perspective on my city.
Black and white pictures add another dimension to it. Somehow deeper, more melancholy.
But I have to correct you on one thing. The Maschsee is an (artificially built) lake, not a river :o).
Have a nice day.
