Come with me on this excursion to Sant Martí Sarroca Castle

Hello dear friends of Pinmapple and all of Hive! I hope this day is going great. This time I will bring you a walk to a castle that I did first thing in the morning, just before I started my shift in volunteering.

The walk, according to Google Maps, took 48 minutes each way. But since I was taking pictures and filming videos, of course it took a bit longer.

Ven conmigo a esta excursión hacia el Castillo de Sant Martí Sarroca

Hola queridos amigos de Pinmapple y de todo Hive! Espero que esta jornada vaya marchando de maravilla. En esta oportunidad les acercaré una caminata hacia un castillo que realicé a primera hora de la mañana, justo antes de empezar mi turno en el voluntariado.

La caminata, según Google Maps, demoraba 48 minutos de ida y lo mismo de vuelta. Pero como estuve tomando fotos y filmando videos, claro que se me hizo un poco más larga.

The adventure begins

I left the refuge at 7:30 am and at about 8:40 I was already arriving. The sun had already risen and along the hike, its inclination with respect to the earth, was showing me some beautiful landscapes, which began to appear from the darkness, as if it were a veil that was slowly disappearing.

I took the central path of the route and then took a side path that led me directly to the castle, and that promised me a new path, not yet traveled.

The castle would open at 10:00 am according to the internet, but I would not make it to the opening because at that time I had to be at the refuge.

Salí del refugio a las 7:30 am y a eso de las 8:40 ya estaba llegando. El sol ya había salido y a lo largo de la caminata, su inclinación con respecto a la tierra, me fue mostrando unos paisajes bellísimos, que empezaban a aparecer de la oscuridad, como si de un velo que desaparecía lentamente se tratara.

Tomé el camino central de la ruta y luego agarré un lateral que me llevaba directo al castillo, y que me prometía un nuevo sendero, aún no transitado.

El castillo abriría a las 10:00 hs am según internet, pero no llegaría a la apertura porque a esa hora ya tenía que estar en el refugio.

Arriving at the castle

Near the castle, the slope began to steepen abruptly, and the path began to make its way through a small group of houses adjacent to the castle.

I passed through nooks and crannies and narrow streets, until I found the staircase that was sure to lead me finally to my destination. My heart was beating fast, as if something fascinating was about to happen, and at the end of the path there were so many turns that it generated in the visitor a very particular intrigue.

As soon as I arrived, the first thing I saw was an almost endless white wall, and more stairs. I went towards them and found myself with the exquisite panoramic view of the Cami de la Font de la Salut River and its banks, full of trees of yesteryear.

It seemed that the world was opening up before me in that image, full of so much nature, so deep, so wild, so imposing.

While I was contemplating, filming and photographing, a car arrived. It was a priest who asked me if I was calling him. I told him no, and he answered: Ah, ok, today the Castle will not receive visitors. I felt better, because I still had to go, hehe.

At 9:10 the alarm on my phone rang warning me that I had to go back, but I ignored it and took an extra 10 minutes to continue contemplating and taking pictures.

Llegando al castillo

Cerca del Castillo, la pendiente empezó a aumentar abruptamente, y el sendero empezó a hacerse paso por entre un pequeño grupo de casas aledañas al castillo.

Pasé por recovecos y estrechas calles, hasta encontrar la escalera que seguro me conducía finalmente hacia mi destino. Mi corazón latía rápidamente, como si algo fascinante fuese a pasar, y es que al final el sendero daba tantas vueltas, que generaba en el visitante una intriga muy particular.

En cuanto llegué, lo primero que vi fue una pared blanca casi interminable, y más escaleras. Fui hacia ellas y me encontré con la vista panorámica exquisita del Río Cami de la Font de la Salut y sus márgenes, repletos de árboles de antaño.

Parecía que el mundo se abría paso ante mi en aquella imagen, repleta de tanta naturaleza, tan profunda, tan salvaje, tan imponente.

Mientras contemplaba, filmaba y fotografiaba, llegó un auto. Era un sacerdote que me preguntó si yo lo estaba llamando. Le dije que no, y me respindió: Ah, vale, hoy el Castillo no recibirá visitas. Me sentí mejor, pues yo igual me tenía que ir, jeje.

A las 9:10 sonó la alarma de mi teléfono avisándome que tenía que regresar, pero no hice caso y tomé 10 minutos extra para seguir contemplando y sacando fotos.

The castle itself

According to the signs on the site, which you can also read in this post (I've left the photos here), this castle was built between the 10th and 12th centuries, then destroyed and later restored in 1963. It has a Romanesque church and is on a cliff.

It has a main body and the church on one side. It is currently used to open to visitors and also hosts festivals, such as a Medieval festival that was held recently.

El castillo propiamente

Según los carteles que hay en el lugar y que también pueden leer en esta publicación (he dejado las fotos aquí), este castillo se construyó entre los siglos X y XII, luego fue destruido y posteriormente fue restaurado en 1963. Cuenta con una iglesia románica y está sobre un acantilado.

Tiene un cuerpo principal y la iglesia a un costado. Actualmente se utiliza para abrir a los visitantes y también es sede de fiestas, como una fiesta Medieval que se realizó recientemente.

Although there are some opening hours published on the internet, it is advisable to check several times and if possible it is better to contact the administration of the castle, because I went one day that was supposed to open at 10:00 am as I told you, and in the end it was going to be closed that day.

Aunque en internet hay unos horarios de apertura publicados, es recomendable chequear varias veces y si es posible es mejor comunicarse con la administración del castillo, pues yo fui un día que en teoría abría a las 10:00 hs am como les comenté, y al final iba a estar cerrado ese día.

Nature and panoramic view

Not only is the architecture of this building beautiful, but the surrounding space is gorgeous as well.

It is full of green, as I was also telling you, and to the south you can see this river, but to the west, the town of Sant Martí Sarroca extends.

That is a beautiful image, as you can see how Sant Martí is in the middle of a natural space with just a few isolated houses. Although there are vineyards everywhere because of the wine essence of the land, the natural colors permeate the scenery.

La naturaleza y la vista panorámica

No sólo la arquitectura de esta construcción es preciosa, sino que el espacio de alrededor es bellísimo también.

Está repleto de verde, como también les estaba comentando, y hacia el sur se observa este río, pero hacia el oeste, se extiende la ciudad de Sant Martí Sarroca.

Esa es una imagen bien bella, ya que se puede observar cómo Sant Martí está en medio de todo un espacio natural con apenas algunas casas aisladas. Aunque hay viñas por todos lados por la esencia vitivinícola de su tierra, los colores naturales impregnan el escenario.
