Hello to all my dear Hive friends! I hope you are having a beautiful day, especially in the Pinmapple community, and of course on the whole platform.
Today I will take you for a walk in Geneva, a city in Switzerland that is especially known for being the space that gives life to the official (and main) headquarters of the United Nations.
I didn't expect to get there, truth be told, it was never in my plans. But when I accepted to work for a few months in Les Gets, France, I was told that I would have to go to this city so that they could pick me up, and it's only an hour's drive from where I am.

Hola a todos mis queridos amigos de Hive! Espero que estén teniendo una bella jornada, en especial en la comunidad de Pinmapple, y claro que en toda la plataforma.
Hoy me los llevaré a pasear por Ginebra, una ciudad de Suiza que se caracteriza especialmente por ser el espacio que da vida a la sede oficial (y principal) de las Naciones Unidas.
No esperaba llegar allí, la verdad, nunca estuvo en mi planes. Pero cuando acepté trabajar por unos meses en Les Gets, Francia, me dijeron que tendría que ir a esta ciudad para que ellos me pudieran pasar a buscar, y es que queda a una hora en auto del lugar en el que estoy.
Geneva is characterized by its order and multiculturalism. I did not expect to see so many people of different nationalities living in this place, besides, it was full of tourists, especially Spanish tourists, which caught my attention.
I recently took them for a walk in Geneva during Christmas Eve, but the truth is that the city is much more than this celebration.
Although it was largely decorated, many spaces were kept with the sobriety of any city (well, each one has its particularity).
Ginebra se caracteriza por su orden y por su multicultiralidad. No esperé ver a tantas personas de diferentes nacionalidades viviendo en este lugar, además, estaba repleto de turistas, y en especial habían turistas españoles, lo cual me llamó bastante la atención.
Hace poco los llevé a pasear por Ginebra durante la víspera de la Navidad, pero lo cierto es que la ciudad es mucho más que esta celebración.
Aunque estaba en gran parte decorada, muchos espacios se mantenían con la sobriedad propia de cualquier ciudad (bueno, cada una tiene su particularidad).
What to see in Geneva
What excited me the most when I found out that I would have to go to Geneva was to remember that this is the headquarters of the United Nations. I studied so much about it at the University, that getting there in person, got me excited in the best sense of the word.
As always, I was surprised not only with its neatness, but also that in front of this headquarters I found an icon of the city of Geneva, a chair with a missing leg.
I didn't really know what it was all about, but when I did a little research on the spot, I found out that this 12-meter high monument was made as a tribute to the number of deaths caused by the use of explosives every year, something quite delicate to talk about.
In Geneva you can also find Lake Geneva, the Swiss clock that is in front of the lake and St. Peter's Cathedral, which is beautiful.
Qué ver en Ginebra
Lo que más me entusiasmó cuando me enteré que tendría que pasar por Ginebra sí o sí, fue recordar que aquí está la sede de las Naciones Unidas. Estudié tanto sobre esto en la Universidad, que llegar en persona allí, me llegó a emocionar en el mejor de los sentidos.
Como siempre, me sorprendió no solamente con su pulcritud, sino que frente a esta sede encontré un ícono de la ciudad de Ginebra, y se trata de una silla a la que le falta una pata.
No sabía muy bien de qué iba esto, pero cuando investigué un poco allí mismo, me enteré de que este monumento de 12 metros de altura está hecho a modo de homenaje a la cantidad de muertes que hay de manera anual por el uso de explosivos, algo bastante delicado de hablar.
En Ginebra también puedes encontrar el Lago Leman, el reloj de Suiza que está frente a este lago y la Catedral de San Pedro, que es bellísima.
Security
The city of Geneva is extremely safe, at least that's how I felt. I noticed that some people were very careful with their bags, but most of them were very calm.
I did not expect to see homeless people there, but to my surprise, there were quite a few.
It caught my attention because Switzerland has a reputation of being extremely safe and having millionaires everywhere, and suddenly that is clearly not the reality for everyone.

La ciudad de Ginebra es sumamente segura, al menos así la sentí yo. Observé que habían personas que cuidaban demasiado sus bolsos, pero la mayoría iba muy tranquila.
Lo que si, no esperaba ver allí a personas en situación de indigencia, pero para mi sorpresa, habían bastantes.
Me llamó la atención porque Suiza tiene fama de ser extremadamente segura y de tener a personas millonarias por todos lados, y de pronto claramente esa no es la realidad para todos.
Pricing
I must tell you that this is the most expensive city I have ever been to. The prices are extremely high, and a water is around 2 to 4 Swiss francs, which is particularly expensive.
However, the city provides free public transportation to visitors staying in accommodation there and you can get free WiFi at the airport.

What a walking tour of a historic and monumental city! Whenever Canadians 🇨🇦 like me think about Switzerland 🇨🇭 it is all about the beginning of a world war, cheese & precision, and respect for a country that teaches everyone how to use and care for a firearm in the spirit of protecting the nation. How badass is that?
It seems things are getting shockingly expensive everywhere which will not bode well in the medium term for those extra tourism dollars that make destinations like that tick but Geneva has so much going on it will be alright.

Qué lindas fotografías, me llamó mucho la atención la foto de la silla con la pata rota, hace mucho vi una foto de esta silla con la información del por qué la crearon, pero la perdí y no pude leer sobre ello. No sabía que la habían diseñado por ese propósito, es sumamente triste, y como dices tu, muy delicado. De igual manera me pondré a investigar un poco más para saber más del tema.
Otra cosa que me llamó mucho la atención es de como están posicionadas lo que acá en Venezuela le llamamos "líneas" que están conectadas desde los postes en la calle. Me di cuenta que están todas cruzadas.
Si había leído algo hace tiempo también sobre que en Suiza es muy costoso todo (No sabía que el agua también 👀), pero no sabía que habían personas en situación de calle. Es muy triste y lamentable eso.

Sí, es sabido que Suiza es costoso, igual a mi me sorprendió igual, creo que tenía la esperanza de que no fue se tanta la diferencia con otros países de Europa, jeje. Lo de las personas en situación de calle fue muy fuerte.
