Come and see an English curiosity: London hides an Egyptian relic

Hello my dear friends of Liketu on Hive! This time I come to share with you a curiosity of London, and it is a sector that is located in Chering Cross, called "Cleopatra's Needles".

When I saw this, I automatically moved to Egypt in my mind (although I have never been there yet), but as I was in London, I thought it was some tribute made in the city. However, later in my trip, I found out that indeed this sculpture was in Egypt and was gifted to London, who installed it in Westminster, this sector you see in the photos, and the other needle went to New York and was installed in Central Park. You may wonder how a sculpture moved to two cities, and it is that it is about two obelisks, which look like needles as its name suggests, and that they were made by a pharaoh back in the fifteenth century BC. Quite a story, isn't it? You can see in one of the images my face, unfortunately not very graceful in the picture (haha) with the obelisk. I added that picture because it is the only one I have where the center of the whole sculpture is shown.

Well, in my ignorance of the moment and when I came across this work, I did not focus on the obelisk, which by the way has symbols on it and is extremely interesting, but I was much more attracted to the Sphinx, which is extremely imposing. It is enormous. You can see the proportion of that creation if you relate its size to the size of my body.

The thing is that later, talking with other travelers, the subject of this place and the Egyptian wonder that hid one of the banks of the Thames River came up, but I was no longer in London and I had only taken with me this memory that I share with you today.

I was really struck by how, even though I knew absolutely nothing about this story, this specific spot attracted me so much. I remember running to see it up close and photographing it.

Ven a conocer una curiosidad inglesa: Londres esconde una reliquia egipcia

Hola mis queridos amigos de Liketu en Hive! En esta oportunidad vengo a compartir con ustedes una curiosidad de Londres, y se trata de un sector que se encuentra en Chering Cross, denominado “Las Agujas de Cleopatra”.

Cuando vi esto, automáticamente me trasladé a Egipto en mi mente (aunque nunca he estado allí aún), pero como me encontraba en Londres, pensé que se trataba de algún homenaje realizado en la ciudad. Sin embargo, más adelante en mi viaje, me enteré que efectivamente esta escultura estaba en Egipto y se obsequió a Londres, que la instaló en Westminster, este sector que se observa en las fotos, y la otra aguja fue a Nueva York y se instaló en el Central Park. Se preguntarán cómo es que una escultura se trasladó a dos ciudades, y es que se trata de dos obeliscos, que parecen agujas como su nombre indica, y que los mandó a hacer un faraón allá por el siglo XV antes de Cristo. Menuda historia, ¿no? Pueden ver en una de las imágenes mi rostro, no muy agraciado lamentablemente en la imagen (jaja) con el obelisco. Agregué esa foto porque es la única que tengo en donde se muestra justamente el centro de toda esta escultura.

Pues yo, en mi ignorancia del momento y al toparme con esta obra, no me enfoqué en el obelisco, que por cierto tiene símbolos en él y es sumamente interesante, sino que me atrajo mucho más la Esfinge, que es sumamente imponente. Es enorme. Pueden ver la proporción de esa creación si relacionan su tamaño con el de mi cuerpo.

La cuestión es que después, hablando con otros viajeros, salió el tema de este lugar y de la maravilla egipcia que escondía uno de los márgenes del Río Támesis, pero yo ya no estaba en Londres y solo me había llevado este recuerdo que hoy comparto con ustedes.

Lo que sí, me llamó mucho la atención cómo aún no sabiendo absolutamente nada de esta historia, este punto en específico me atrajo tanto. Recuerdo haber corrido para verlo de cerca y fotografiarlo.
