Hello my dear friends from Hive and Pinmapple, it's a pleasure to be here sharing a dream place in the city where I live, Mendoza.

Many people from all over the world are choosing this little corner of space to live, and no one can deny that it presents dreamed landscapes, both in the urban and in the rural or more natural spaces (those that still do not know the hand of man, or that almost have not been modified).

In other opportunities I have told you about this park, especially in the Full Deportes community, since I usually go for a walk there. I have also shared a full moon seen from the park, but I have never presented it to you as a tourist.

Hola mis queridos amigos de Hive y Pinmapple, es un placer estar aquí compartiendo un lugar soñado de la ciudad en la que vivo, Mendoza.

Muchas personas de todo el mundo están eligiendo este rinconcito de espacio para vivir, y es que nadie puede negar que presenta paisajes soñados, tanto en lo urbano como en los espacios rurales o más naturales (aquellos que aún no conocen la mano del hombre, o que casi no han sido modificados).

En otras oportunidades les he hablado de este parque, en especial en la comunidad de Full Deportes, ya que suelo ir a caminar allí. También he compartido alguna luna llena vista desde el parque, pero nunca se los he presentado en calidad de turista.

Of course, I am a native of this city, so my view is different. But a few weeks ago I decided to visit this park with a tourist's eyes only. I wanted to go where the tourists went, I wanted to be surprised by the details that would surprise me in an unknown place, and guess what happened: The park surprised me, as it gave me a rainbow created in a new fountain thanks to the direction of the sun's rays at that hour.

Although I walked through the "usual" places, I got close to spaces I have never shared with you, that hold secrets and sculptures. Let's take a look at them.

Claro, yo soy oriunda de esta ciudad, por lo que mi mirada es diferente. Pero hace unas semanas decidí visitar este parque con ojos de turista exclusivamente. Quise ir a donde iban los turistas, busqué sorprenderme con los detalles que me sorprenderían de un lugar desconocido, y adivinen lo que pasó: El parque me sorprendió a mí, ya que me regaló un arcoíris creado en una fuente nueva gracias a la dirección de los rayos del sol a esa hora.

Aunque caminé por los lugares “de siempre”, me acerqué a espacios que jamás he compartido con ustedes, que guardan secretos y esculturas. Vamos a verlos.

The Rose Garden

El Rosedal is a space in the General San Martín Park that, as its name suggests, offers a path full of roses. Among them, red and pink ones predominate. In case you want to check more information about this (this publication talks a lot more about Mendoza), I leave you an article I found from the New York Times, quite recent, which shows a picture of this very place that I share with you today.

Historically, this space has been the best place for people to have their pictures taken both before their 15th birthday (here in Argentina this age is celebrated as in the United States they celebrate their 16th birthday), and before their wedding. This space has large lawns where people relax to take mats and chat. It is also common to see many cyclists around the rose garden and the lake, resting or contemplating.

El Rosedal

El Rosedal es un espacio del Parque General San Martín que, como su nombre lo indica, ofrece todo un sendero repleto de rosas. Entre ellas predominan las rojas y las rosadas. En caso de que quieran chequear más información sobre esto (esta publicación habla bastante más de Mendoza), les dejo un artículo que encontré del New York Times, bastante reciente, que muestra una foto justamente de este mismo lugar que hoy les comparto.

Históricamente este espacio ha sido el mejor punto para que las personas se tomen fotos tanto antes de los cumpleaños de 15 (acá en Argentina se festeja esta edad como en Estados Unidos se festejan los 16 años), como antes de los casamientos. Este espacio cuenta con grandes extensiones de césped en donde las personas se relajan para tomar mate y charlar. También es común ver a varios ciclistas alrededor del rosedal y del lago, descansando o contemplando.

In this area you can also enjoy many sculptures that somehow indicate the characteristic of mountainous Mendoza, and is that this province acts as a transition between the Argentine Patagonia and the north of the country, particularly arid.

"Arches" that in truth instead of an arch have a square at the top made with wooden posts, decorate the place with white columns, neat, that takes us back to colonial times. As a "roof", these walkways have vines, which at the time of the photos are in their resting season because of the late autumn. These vines are a symbol of Mendoza's wine-growing nature.

En esta zona también pueden disfrutarse muchas esculturas que de alguna manera nos indican la característica de montañosa de Mendoza, y es que esta provincia actúa a modo de transición entre la Patagonia argentina y el norte del país, particularmente árido.

“Arcos” que en verdad en lugar de un arco tienen un cuadrado en la parte de arriba hecho con postes de madera, decoran el lugar con columnas blancas, pulcras, que nos traslada a la época colonial. A modo de “techo”, estas pasarelas tienen parras, que en el momento de las fotos están en su época de descanso por lo adentrado del otoño. Estas parras, son símbolo de la naturaleza vitivinícola de Mendoza.

The lake and the fountain

The lake in the park is extremely well known. When one talks about this place in Mendoza, no further explanation is necessary. This is where friends gather to chat, athletes and others, and it is always "at the lake". It also acts as a reference for workouts, since according to "how many laps were done around the lake in x amount of minutes" (walking, running, skating, cycling), you know what level of intensity a workout had. I comment this because it is a topic that is in the daily conversation of any Mendocino (person from Mendoza).

El lago y la fuente

El lago del parque es extremadamente conocido. Cuando uno habla de este lugar en Mendoza, no es necesario dar más explicaciones. Pues aquí se reúnen amigos para charlar, deportistas y demás, y siempre es “en el lago”. También actúa a modo de referencia para entrenamientos, ya que de acuerdo a “cuantas vueltas se dieron al lago en x cantidad de minutos” (caminando, corriendo, patinando, andando en bicicleta), se sabe qué nivel de intensidad tuvo un entrenamiento. Lo comento porque es un tema que está en la conversación cotidiana de cualquier Mendocino (persona de Mendoza).

You can also see in the pictures, people rowing. This is the only place in the center of the city where those who practice this sport can train. It is practiced at the Club Mendoza de Regatas, which allows professional rowing like the one you see in the picture, as if you were out for a walk. When I was 13 years old, I was a member of that club and I rowed for a walk, so I have the experience of sailing on this lake. It is a really nice thing to do.

Podrán ver en las imágenes además, a personas haciendo remo. Este es el único lugar en el centro de la ciudad en donde quienes practican este deporte, pueden entrenar. Su práctica se realiza en el Club Mendoza de Regatas, que permite hacer remo profesional como el que ven en la foto, como de paseo. A mis 13 años, yo era socia de ese club y hacía remo de paseo, por lo que tengo la experiencia de navegar por este lago. Es algo verdaderamente muy lindo.

Another characteristic of this sector is that relatively recently (less than two years ago), fountains have been installed in the lake, in its eastern sector, right next to the rose garden.

They look very beautiful, and there is one in particular that is "a jet of water" and reminds me of a lake with a fountain like the one I saw in Central Park in New York. It was precisely at this point where I "found" the rainbow. It was a somewhat artificial one you could say, because it was not due to rain, but due to the water of the fountain, but it was very beautiful to see it, since I myself was enjoying the view in that almost sunset (4:30 pm in almost winter, it is an hour in which the sun goes down quite a lot in Mendoza).

Otra característica de este sector, es que hace relativamente poco (menos de dos años), han instalado unas fuentes en el lago, en su sector este, justamente al lado del rosedal.

Se ven muy hermosas, y hay una particularmente que es “un chorro de agua” y que me hace acordar a un lago con una fuente igual que vi en el central Park de Nueva York. Justamente en este punto es donde “encontré” al arcoíris. Era uno algo artificial podría decirse, pues no fue a cause de una lluvia, sino que se debía al agua de la fuente, pero fue muy hermoso verlo, ya que yo misma venía deleitándome con la vista en ese casi atardecer (4:30 pm en casi invierno, es una hora en la que el sol baja bastante en Mendoza).

It is worth mentioning that General San Martin Park is very large and has different sectors. It is very difficult to tour it all in one day, so today I bring you a part of the tourist spots.

During this excursion, I also captured images of some coffee shops, something that is also quite new and that has been established in the park. These are ice cream parlors, hamburger joints, bars, coffee shops, breweries (craft beer), which are located in a slightly wider radius than the lake and offer visitors the opportunity to relax for a moment.

I also captured the facade of the regatta club, and the west sector of the lake, on its bike path.

Algo más del área recorrida del parque

Cabe aclarar que el parque General San MArtin es muy grande y cuenta con diferentes sectores. Es muy difícil recorrerlo todo en un mismo día, así que hoy les traigo una parte de los puntos turísticos.

En el recorrido de esta excursión, también capturé imágenes de algunas cafeterías, algo que también es bastante nuevo y que se ha instaurado en el parque. Se trata de heladerías, hamburgueserías, bares, cafeterías, cervecerías (cerveza artesanal), que se encuentran en un radio un poco más amplio que el del lago y que ofrecen al visitante la posibilidad de relajarse un momento.

También capturé la fachada del Club Regatas, y el sector oeste del lago, en su bici senda.

You will also be able to see some images of the "island" that is located in the lake, recently recovered for safe walks. This is also an icon of the park because small meetings and concerts are held here, such as local or regional bands, as well as promotions of healthy products, and it is a key point of training in rowing because it is there where they teach how to properly skirt a piece of land.

También podrán observar algunas imágenes de “la isla” que se encuentra en e lago, recientemente recuperada para paseos seguros. Este también es un ícono del parque porque aquí se llevan a cabo reuniones y conciertos pequeños, como de bandas locales o regionales, también se realizan promociones de productos saludables, y es un punto clave del entrenamiento en remo porque es allí donde enseñan a bordear correctamente a una porción de tierra.
