A longtail boat ride in Thailand + a brief scalar analysis

Thailand is a surprising country because, although it is not very large, it has idyllic locations both on its coast and inland. Added to this is an impressive variety of activities, many of which are contrasting, such as the spirituality that is so strongly felt and experienced that it reaches tourists who have nothing to do with religion, alongside the free sale and consumption of marijuana. This is just one example, but I could also refer to the extreme nature in contrast to the multimillion-dollar buildings in Bangkok.

You can imagine that given such extensive diversity, it is very difficult to summarize Thailand, especially when there is so much to say about this country.

For this reason, on this occasion, I am bringing you something of Thailand's nature, which is in itself a whole universe, as its islands and coasts vary as you travel around the country.

Un paseo en long tail en Tailandia + un breve análisis escalar

Tailandia es un país que sorprende, ya que aunque no es demasiado grande, cuenta con espacios paradisíacos tanto en su costa como en su área continental. A ello se le suma una variedad impresionante de actividades, que muchas son contrastantes, como la espiritualidad vivida y sentida tan fuerte que llega a los turistas que nada tienen que ver con su religión, junto a la libre venta y consumo de marihuana. Este es solo un ejemplo, pero podría referirme también a la extrema naturaleza en contraste con los edificios multimillonarios de Bangkok.

Se imaginarán que dada esta diversidad tan extensa, es muy difícil resumir a Tailandia, sobre todo cuando hay bastante que contar sobre este país.

Por este motivo en esta oportunidad les acerco algo de la naturaleza de Tailandia, que es ya en sí misma, todo un universo, pues sus islas y costas van variando a medida que se recorre el país.

The photos you can enjoy below were taken by me on a boat trip on the Andaman Sea.

As the longtail boat moved forward, I lost myself in the wonder of this landscape, and at one point something quite curious happened to me: I noticed that I was looking at the overall scene, but when I zoomed in with my phone, I noticed the world that existed within each formation.

Las fotos de las que pueden disfrutar a continuación fueron tomadas por mí, en un paseo en bote por el Andaman Sea (Mar de Andaman).

A medida que el Long Tail avanzaba, yo iba perdiéndome en la maravilla de este paisaje, y en un momento me pasó algo bastante curioso, y es que noté que estaba mirando el escenario general, pero al hacer zoom con el teléfono, noté el mundo que había en cada formación.

Small scale

Contrary to what we might think, cartographically speaking, a small scale means zooming out, so to speak, to see the bigger picture, the whole scene, which means less detail at the local level, losing some of the specifics of the area.

In this shot, this area of Thailand shows us a turquoise sea that shines brighter than the sky, along with formations closer and further away that seem to have been thrown down from the sky spontaneously, creating a kind of living painting. Another masterpiece by Mother Nature.

These formations, which are neither mountains nor islands, are limestone cliffs, randomly distributed across the sea. It is one of the most beautiful experiences I have ever had, surpassed only (in this context and natural setting) by Ha Long Bay in Vietnam, which has a similar landscape but is even more fascinating due to the colors and height of the cliffs.

In this panoramic scene, we could say, other boats can also be seen.

Escala pequeña

Una escala pequeña, al contrario de lo que podríamos pensar, cartográficamente, significa alejar el zoom, digamos, ver el panorama más grande, toda la escena, lo que implica una menor cantidad de detalle en lo local, perdiendo un poco lo específico del área.

En esa toma, esta zona de Tailandia nos muestra un mar turquesa que brilla más que el cielo, junto a formaciones más cercanas y más lejanas que parecen haber sido arrojadas desde el cielo espontáneamente, creando una especie de cuadro viviente. Una obra maestra más de la madre Naturaleza.

Estas formaciones que no son montañas ni islas, son acantilados de piedra caliza, que se distribuyen de manera azarosa por el mar. Es una de las experiencias más bonitas que he vivido, solo superadora (en este contexto y escena natural), por la Bahía de Ha Long en Vietnam, cuyo escenario es similar, pero aún más fascinante por los colores y por la altura de los acantilados.

En esta escena panorámica, podríamos decir, también se ven otras embarcaciones.

Large scale

The large scale, or what we could call a more detailed view of the Earth's surface at this point in the Andaman Sea, allows us to observe different types of vegetation, stalactites, and stalagmites.

We can also see the base of these cliffs and how it is smaller (to the naked eye) than the emerged portion of the Earth's crust.

Different shapes and unevenness can be seen where the light casts an impressive play of shadows.

Furthermore, as the scale of analysis is not extreme, this approach allows us to infer that if we were to analyze any of these cliffs in greater detail, we would discover an almost infinite number of subsystems, acting together as part of larger systems.

Escala grande

La escala grande, o lo que podríamos decir, una mirada más detallada de la superficie terrestre, a esta altura del Mar de Andaman, nos ofrece la observación de diferentes tipos de vegetación, estalactitas y estalagmitas.

También podemos ver la base de estos acantilados y cómo la misma es más pequeña (a simple vista), que la porción emergida de corteza terrestre.

Pueden verse diferentes formas y desniveles en donde la luz arroja un juego impresionante de sombras.

Y además, como el juego de escalas en análisis no es extremo, este acercamiento nos permite inferir que. si nos acercáramos a analizar con mayor detalle cualquiera de estos acantilados, descubriríamos allí una cantidad casi diría que infinita de subsistemas, actuando en conjunto como parte de sistemas mayores.

I know that we could go much further and much closer with the images and with scalar analysis, but this is what my phone allowed me to do to keep the images sharp.

I wanted to share it like this, as photos, with this little explanation, because I was fascinated to understand that in every cliff there is a universe of life working together to maintain balance and offer us this incredible landscape.

Sé que se podría ir mucho más lejos y mucho más cerca con las imágenes y con el análisis escalar, pero esto es lo que me permitió mi teléfono para mantener la nitidez de las imágenes.

Quería compartirlo así, como fotos, con esta pequeña explicación, pues a mí me dejó fascinada el entender que en cada acantilado existe un Universo de vida actuando en conjunto para mantenerse en equilibrio y para ofrecernos este paisaje increíble.

Although I am not a fan of Thailand, I must say that these landscapes are worth seeing, as I believe they are a jewel on Planet Earth.

Aunque no soy fan de Tailandia, debo decirles que vale la pena ver estos paisajes, pues creo que son una joya en el Planeta Tierra.
