Japanese Bō

A Bō is a personal weapon used in Okinawa. They are used in martial arts, while they are adopted in Japanese arts such as Bōjutsu in particular.

The primary use of the Japanese Bō is to amplify the force used for a strike through the use of leverage and the inertia of the martial artist's movement.

The Bō is also used to hit medium and long range targets. At a technical level, checking, blocking, sweeping, retention, grappling, direct and indirect blows and thrusts are used. Some joint dislocations and immobilizations are also included.

Physically, strong, fast and flexible upper limbs are required. Also as agility for displacement.
