Gramophone or Victrola

They keep this device in the living room of the house of my photographer friend @victorjalf. I found it very interesting and striking, because many years ago, at home, I had a record player where I often listened to beautiful romantic songs on large acetate records.
The Gramophone was the first sound recording and reproduction system that produced a flat disc, unlike the Phonograph that recorded on a cylinder. It was also the most common device for reproducing recorded sound from the 1890's until the mid-1950's, when the 33 RPM vinyl record appeared. It was patented by Emile Berliner in 1887.
The Gramophone ended up prevailing over the Phonograph due to the lower production cost of the recordings intended for this device, given that thousands of copies were made from a single original mold.

The Phonograph was only able to make a single take of sound for each original performance. Therefore, when a recording was to be made, multiple phonographs were available. However, the Phonograph had an advantage over the Gramophone: users could record their own cylinders, with music or voices.
This possibility had multiple applications that neither the Gramophone nor the later vinyl recordallowed, and which were made available again with the appearance of open reeltape recorders, metal wire recorders, cassette tape recorders and digital devices, such as computers equipped with audio cards and portable digital recorders.
Inseveral Spanish-speaking countries, the gramophone is also known as Vitrola, a word derived from the brand "Vitrola", of the Victor Company.
