Redoma ferry castle a notable tribute to the city's fishing potential (Eng - Esp)
Hello friends who love architecture and design, I hope you are well and have a great weekend with your loved ones. These have been very busy days and intense heat in the city. Last week while I was running several errands, I "found" a nice roundabout called El Castillito Redoma del Ferry, located in the El Salado sector, very close to the ferry terminal (it is also known as Redoma Castillo de la Boca). From the moment I saw it, its shape caught my attention because of its similarity to the shape of the San Antonio de la Eminencia castle. I went over and sure enough, both have the same four-pointed star shape. My curiosity to learn more about this roundabout led me to talk to several neighbors in the area who were repairing the road, who told me the name and its meaning.
The plaza or redoma represents the abundance and fishing potential of the city, since fishing is one of the main economic activities. The area known as the mouth is an important reference point when it comes to buying fresh fish. In addition, in this area there are several companies that process fish and various seafood products. These were taken as a reference to build the redoma, which at its top has the sculpture of two fish and the shape of the Castle, which is an important construction of colonial origin that represents the cultural heritage and outstanding architecture of the city.
Hola amigos amantes de la arquitectura y el diseño, deseo se encuentren bien y tengan un excelente fin de semana, en unión de sus seres queridos, estos días han sido muy ocupados y de calor intenso en la ciudad, la semana pasada mientras realizaba varias diligencias, "encontré" una linda redoma que recibe el nombre de el castillito redoma del ferry, ubicada en el sector el Salado, muy cerca del terminal de Ferry (también se le conoce como redoma castillo de la boca), desde que la ví, su forma llamó mi atención, por su similitud con la forma del castillo san Antonio de la eminencia, me acerqué y efectivamente, ambos tienen la misma forma de estrella de cuatro puntas, mi curiosidad por conocer más de esta redoma, me llevó a conversar con varios vecinos del sector que estaban reparando la carretera, quienes me dijeron el nombre y su significado.
La plaza o redoma representa la abundancia y potencial pesquero de la ciudad, pues la pesca constituye una de las principales actividades económicas, el sector conocido como la boca, es un un importante punto de referencia cuando de comprar pescado fresco se trata, además en esta zona se ubican varias empresas que procesan pescado y diversos productos del mar, estas fueron tomadas como referencia para construir la redoma, que en su parte superior tiene la escultura de dos peces y la forma del Castillo, que es una importante construcción de origen colonial que representa el patrimonio cultural y arquitectura destacada de la ciudad.
In celebration of the city's birthday, as I have mentioned in previous posts, one of the outstanding icons is the castle, which is more than 300 years old, taking this important icon as a reference, the roundabout was built that links the cultural part of the city and the fishing potential of the region, definitely, it is a city blessed with the waters of the immense Caribbean Sea, which in addition to the abundance of fish, offers beautiful and charming beaches for the enjoyment of the family and tourists who come to this beautiful city in eastern Venezuela.
The roundabout has several trees and pretty flower-shaped planters, these are made of concrete and the tips of the flower petals are curiously square and are decorated with brick cutouts. On the grounds of the roundabout you can see four concrete flowers with their respective plants in the center. To enter the roundabout and not damage the plants, there are four concrete walkways that match the points of the star, the floor is made of concrete decorated with white ribbons and small stones, the plaza is white and green.
En la celebración del cumpleaños de la ciudad, como lo he mencionado en anteriores publicaciones,uno de los iconos resaltantes lo constituye el castillo, que tiene más de 300 años de construcción, tomando este importante icono como referencia se construyó la redoma que vincula la parte cultural de la ciudad y el potencial pesquero de la región, definitivamente, es una ciudad bendecida con las aguas del inmenso mar Caribe, que además de la abundancia pesquera, ofrece hermosas y encantadoras playas para el disfrute de la familia y turistas que se dan cita a esta bella ciudad del oriente Venezolano.
La redoma tiene varios árboles y lindas jardineras en forma de flor, estas están hechas de concreto y las puntas de los pétalos de las flores curiosamente son cuadrados y están decoradas con recortes de ladrillo, en el terreno de la redoma se aprecian cuatro flores de concreto con sus respectivas plantas en el centro, para ingresar a la redoma y no dañar la plantas, hay cuatro caminerías de concreto que coinciden con las puntas de la estrella, el piso es de concreto decorado con cintas blancas y pequeñas piedras, la plaza es de color blanco con verde.
In addition to the flower-shaped planters, there are also several hexagonal ones, these stand out because they have a plant with pointed leaves in the center, the bushes are located around the plaza and there are also large trees on the sides. Although it is a commercial area, the abundance of trees impressed me. I think it is an excellent idea to plant trees on the avenues and plazas, to combat the heat and humidity, due to the warm climate of the area.
Around the roundabout there are several buildings, that correspond to food processing companies, offices and other commercial buildings, the avenue where the roundabout is located is called the Islet; In a closer view, to the right side, you can see the entrance to the ferry terminal, the sculpture of the fish rests on a white column with green lines, above this is a green circle and at the top the fish, the base of the pedestal is also shaped like a flower, the fish are white and are joined by a figure very similar to the one that has the base of the sculpture, in a closer shot of the square, its four points and on the sides windows very similar to that of the Castle can be seen, the shape of these windows obeys a strategic position to place the cannons and respond quickly in case of an attack, by the enemies and corsairs, who sailed in the waters of the Caribbean Sea.
Además de la jardineras en forma de flor se encuentran también encuentran varias en forma hexagonal, estas destacan porque en el centro tienen una planta de hojas puntiagudas, los arbustos se ubican alrededor de la plaza y también hay árboles grandes hacia los laterales, aunque es una zona comercial, la abundancia de árboles me impresionó, creo que es una excelente idea plantar árboles en las avenidas y plazas, para combatir el calor y la húmedad, debido al clima cálido de la zona.
Alrededor de la redoma se observan varias edificaciones, que corresponden a las empresas procesadoras de alimentos, oficinas y otros edificios de vocación comercial, la avenida donde se ubica la redoma se llama el Islote; en una vista más cercana, hacia el lado derecho, se observa la entrada al terminal de Ferry, la escultura de los peces descansa en una columna de color blanco con líneas verdes, encima de esta se ubica un círculo verde y en la parte superior los peces, la base del pedestal tiene también forma de flor, los peces son de color blanco y están unidos por una figura muy similar a la que tiene la base del la escultura, en una toma más cerca de la plaza, se aprecian sus cuatro puntas y en los laterales ventanas muy similares a la del Castillo, la forma de estas ventanas obedece a una posición estratégica para colocar los cañones y responder rápidamente en caso de un ataque, por parte de los enemigos y corsarios, que navegaban en las aguas del mar Caribe.
In the windows of the mini Castle there are two cannons, one located in the front and another in the back, it is the first time I see this dome and I liked its design and similarity to the castle, the planters are also very pretty and their design very original, the brick cutouts give it a great style, which combines perfectly with the surroundings, after completing my errands, talking to the neighbors in the area and taking several photos of this striking dome, I thanked these kind people for the information and attention, it was a day full of surprises, as I was able to learn about a new architectural design for the city.
En las ventanas del mini Castillo se encuentran dos cañones, ubicados uno en la parte delantera y otro en la parte posterior, es la primera vez que veo esta redoma y me gustó su diseño y similitud con el castillo, las jardineras son también muy bonitas y su diseño muy original, los recortes de ladrillo le dan un gran estilo, que combina a la perfección con el entorno, luego de completar mis diligencias, conversar con los vecinos del sector y tomar varias fotos de esta llamativa redoma, agradecí a estas amables personas por la información y atención, fue un día lleno de sorpresas, pues pude conocer un nuevo diseño arquitéctonico de la ciudad.

That these small spaces are well preserved is something to be happy about, because they are preserving the cultural heritage of a city and therefore of a nation.
