My visit to the Chiquinquirá Church, observing its exterior design (Eng - Esp)
Happy day to fellow travelers around the world; I hope you are enjoying good health alongside your loved ones. Today, I am sharing my visit to the Virgen de Chiquinquirá Church, located on the Pan-American Highway in the Cascajal area. Situated at an intersection, it stands out for its beautiful design; although unfinished, it looks impressive and attractive.
While walking along the avenue with my son, we paused to take a closer look because the church's roof caught my eye. I had passed by before when the roof was blue, but now it is green; this new look adds a distinct style, and I felt the domes stood out much more against the green roofing.
The church's design is truly lovely, featuring intricate decorative details on the front, sides, and rear. The front section boasts a staircase, several columns, and a triangular façade; the columns themselves feature beautiful high-relief ornamentation and Greek-style patterns in white. The staircase is still in a raw, unfinished state. Beyond the colonnade lies the double front door, which is blue. Above the doorway, the wall features a triangular finish flanked by two cylindrical columns that are yet to be completed. I really liked the church's columns and their beautiful decorative details, which remind me of the Parthenon—a famous European landmark renowned for its many columns.
Feliz día amigos viajeros en todo el mundo, deseo se encuentren disfrutando de buena salud en unión de sus seres queridos, en esta ocasión les comparto mi visita a la iglesia Virgen de Chiquinquirá, ubicada en la avenida Panamericana sector Cascajal, se encuentra en una intersección y resalta por su hermoso diseño, aunque no está terminada luce muy bien y atractiva.
Mientras caminaba con mi hijo por esta avenida, hicimos una pausa para observarla porque me llamó la atención el techo de la iglesia, había pasado anteriormente por allí y tenía el techo de color azul, ahora es de color verde, esta nueva imagen le agrega un estilo diferente y me pareció que las cúpulas resaltan mucho más con el color verde cubriendo el techo.
El diseño de la iglesia es realmente muy bonito y cuenta con muchos detalles decorativos tanto en la parte frontal, laterales y el posterior, en la parte delantera tiene las escaleras varias columnas y la fachada de forma triangular, las columnas tienen a su vez hermosas decoraciones y grecas en alto relieve, estas son de color blanco, las escaleras aún son aún están en obra gris, luego del pasillo con las columnas, se encuentra la puerta delantera que es doble y de color azul, en la parte posterior de la pared que sostiene la puerta vemos una terminación triangular y al lado dos columnas cilíndricas aún por concluir, me gustaron las columnas de esta iglesia y sus hermosos detalles decorativos que me recuerdan el Partenón, una obra muy conocida de Europa que resalta por sus numerosas columnas.
After walking along the front of the church and examining the columns—observing their design and ornamentation in detail—we moved toward the side adjoining the school. There, I noticed circular windows near the top of the wall and crescent-shaped windows set into the columns; the ceiling features tongue-and-groove paneling painted blue. Further along, there are semi-arched windows with white grilles—though apparently sealed, they retain their original shape and bars. A small cornice marks the transition to the domed structure found on all four sides; the sections at the rear and along the side facing the Pan-American Highway remain unfinished (in the "gray" construction stage). We then took a closer look at this window, the ceiling, and its supporting beams.
The front features a triangular elevation—a motif repeated, as previously mentioned, on all four sides—followed by a design incorporating cornices and high-relief windows (also white) on the side facing the school; from this vantage point, the blue of the ceiling is clearly visible. The ornamentation continues with a semicircular window and its accompanying planter box, followed by a square window flanked by a small column. We then examined the decorative elements on this side: the door resembles the main entrance, featuring double leaves painted blue and topped by a triangular cornice. Above this sits a circular window at the highest point of the wall, along with a series of windows beneath a horizontal cornice—similar to the one seen on the previous side. High-relief window motifs flank the doorway, and further ornamentation is visible at the corner. We took a close look at the domes—one central and one at the corner—observing circular windows, the base of the corner dome, and a triangular finish; the central section also features cornice detailing, knob-like ornaments, and panels depicting figures that appear to be lions.
I hadn't seen these figures before and was surprised when I spotted them; they are located between the last dome and the central triangle. We can also see the circular windows and their grilles in detail—separated by small columns and topped with ornamentation—and a close-up reveals that the white grilles are shaped like numbers. The decorative details of this church are striking and quite unusual; in fact, I haven't seen anything like them in any other church. The view of the domes at sunset is lovely; both have silver-colored tops and a cross in the center.
Luego de recorrer la parte frontal de la iglesia y observar en detalle las columnas, su diseño y adornos avanzamos hacia el lado que converge con la escuela, allí pude observar que en la parte superior de la pared tiene ventanas circulares y en las columnas las ventanas son en forma de media luna, el techo es machihembrado cubierto con una capa de color azul, luego hay ventanas en forma de semi arco con rejas de color blanco, al parecer esta ventana fue sellada pero conserva su forma y rejas, en la parte superior tiene una pequeña cornisa y desde allí inicia la forma de cúpula que ella tiene en los cuatro costados, la de la parte posterior y el lateral que va hacia la avenida Panamericana están aún en obra gris, luego vemos en detalle esta ventana el techo y las vigas que lo soportan.
En la parte frontal tiene una elevación en forma triangular, la cual se repite como lo mencioné en los cuatro lados, luego tenemos un diseño de cornisa y ventanas en alto relieve, en el lado que da hacia la escuela, estas son también de color blanco, desde aquí se aprecia mejor el color del techo, estos adornos continúan con una ventana semicircular su respectiva jardinera, la siguiente es cuadrada y al lado de ella una pequeña columna, luego observamos los adornos ubicados en este lado, la puerta es parecida a la frontal, de dos hojas y color azul, encima de ella hay una cornisa triangular, a continuación la ventana circular en la parte más alta de la pared y una serie de ventanas con una cornisa horizontal, similar a la que vimos en el lateral anterior, a ambos lados la puerta está decorada con ventanas en alto relieve, en la esquina se aprecian otros adornos y observamos muy de cerca las cúpulas, una de ellas está en el centro y la otra en la esquina, aquí vemos ventanas circulares, la base de la última cúpula y una terminación en forma triangular, en el centro tiene también decoraciones cornisas, figuras de pomo y cuadros con figuras que al parecer son leones.
No había visto estas figuras, me sorprendí al verlas, están entre la última cúpula y el triángulo central, también vemos en detalle las ventanas circulares con sus respectivas rejas, además están separadas por pequeñas columnas y adornos en la parte superior, en una vista cercana se observan las rejas que tienen forma de número y son también de color blanco, los detalles decorativos de esta iglesia son llamativos y muy curiosos, de hecho no los he visto en ninguna otra iglesia, la vista de las cúpulas al atardecer es muy bonita, ambas son de color plateado en la parte superior y tienen una cruz en el centro.
From the rear, we can once again see the structure's triangular and circular forms, as well as the various plants surrounding the church. The domes are positioned in a rather curious way: one sits in the center, while the other is located at the corner, towards the back. The church also features a beautiful garden that spans the rear, the side facing the Pan-American Highway, and the front; entrances are located at both the front and the sides. The circular windows set into each triangular gable are lovely and add visual appeal to the building; although construction is not yet complete, the design is striking.
Moving toward the side facing the Pan-American Highway, we see the entrance, the triangular gable with its circular window, and the central dome. There is a full view of the roof and the avenue—with its central line of trees—as well as part of the garden in this area. We also get a close-up look at the circular window, featuring numerous reinforcing bars and a central pipe. Next, we see a view encompassing the church, Cascajal Hill, and the avenue. Although I had seen this church before, I hadn't really noticed many of its details; however, the color of the roof caught my eye as I drove along the avenue, as the contrast seemed different and I recalled it having a different hue. My son and I quickly took a walk around to see exactly what had changed and to get a closer look at the beautiful decorative details that make the building unique in the city. According to a local resident, the church was inspired by one in Italy—which explains why its design is unlike any other in the city. After observing it for several minutes, we concluded that the roof color had indeed changed, and that was the detail that had caught my attention.
En la parte posterior vemos nuevamente su forma triangular, circular y varias plantas que rodean esta iglesia, las cúpulas tienen una ubicación muy curiosa una está en el centro y la otra en la esquina para dirigirse hacia la parte trasera, la iglesia cuenta también con un hermoso jardín que abarca la parte posterior, el lateral que da hacia la Panamericana y la parte frontal, las puertas se encuentran en el frente y los laterales, las ventanas circulares en cada terminación triangular son muy bonitas y agregan vistosidad a esta construcción, aunque no está terminada, su diseño es muy bonito.
Avanzando hacia el lateral y la avenida Panamericana, vemos la puerta, la terminación triangular con su respectiva ventana circular, la cúpula central, se aprecia completamente el techo y una vista de la avenida con los árboles en el centro, también parte del jardín en esta zona y en detalle la ventana circular con muchas cabillas y un tubo en el centro, luego tenemos una vista de la iglesia el cerro de Cascajal y la avenida, aunque había visto esta iglesia anteriormente no me había fijado en mucho de sus detalles, lo que sí llamó mi atención cuando iba por la avenida fue el color del techo, porque el contraste era diferente y recordaba que tenía otro color, rápidamente en compañía de mi hijo hicimos un recorrido para verificar que era lo que tenía diferente, conocer de cerca sus hermosos detalles decorativos que la hacen única en la ciudad, según la información de un residente esta iglesia está inspirada en una que se ubica en Italia por eso su diseño no se repite en la ciudad; luego de observar durante varios minutos llegamos a la conclusión que el techo tenía otro color y ese fue el detalle que captó mi atención.

What a beautiful classic church usually I prefer churches in gothic or Barocco style but this church looks nice simple and neat.
