Boat tour of Araya and the Castle ruins (Eng - Esp)
Greetings fellow travelers! I hope you have a wonderful week with your loved ones. I'm happy to share my visit to the town of Araya, in the Cruz Salmerón Acosta municipality of Sucre state. It's a peninsula with beautiful beaches, a salt flat, and crystal-clear water resorts like Castillo Beach, La Paria Beach, and Araya Beach, which encompasses a large part of the peninsula's coast. Its main economic activities are fishing and tourism, closely linked to the sea. To visit this town, you take a boat or ferry from Cumaná, and in approximately 45 minutes to an hour and a half, depending on the mode of transport, you'll arrive in this beautiful coastal town.
During the journey to this beautiful town, bathed by the warm waters of the Caribbean Sea, you can observe part of the salt flats, the pier and a partial view of the city of Cumaná. In fact, when visiting the Monument sector (Cumaná) you can see the Araya peninsula; it is a distant view but you can appreciate a small part of the peninsula. At night you can see the lights of this coastal town, specifically from the Monument viewpoint.
Visiting this town is a wonderful experience, as you have the opportunity to savor delicious food: fried fish, salad, arepas, and you can also enjoy a seafood stew. If you love the beach, there are many options in Araya that offer beautiful ocean views and beaches to relax on with family and friends. During my visit to this town, I took several photos from the boat. The view is spectacular, and you can see the ruins of the castle, built during the colonial era. Due to a series of natural events, most of its structure was destroyed. Upon entering the town, you can see some walls and towers of the castle, including one of the gates that led to the barracks of this fortress.
The castle is named the Royal Fortress of Santiago de Arroyo de Araya (Araya Castle) and was an important strategic control point against the pirates and privateers who frequented the Caribbean Sea area seeking to plunder its riches. In its time, the castle served as a bastion and defense for the population of Araya, and especially to protect the salt flats. During this period of history, salt was a product in high demand in Europe and other parts of the world, attracting many ships and merchants interested in acquiring it. Given this situation, the King of Spain authorized the construction of the castle, with the aim of protecting this widely used natural resource, which fetched an excellent price.
The photographs of the ruins show the stone blocks, columns, and walls, the main material used for its construction. Some of the walls are cracked, others are broken in half, and there are also fragments in the area where this important castle once stood, protecting and safeguarding the city.
Saludos amigos viajeros, que tengan una excelente semana en unión de sus seres queridos, me siento feliz de compartir mi visita a la población de Araya municipio Cruz salmerón Acosta, estado Sucre, es una península con hermosas playas, posee también una salina, balnearios de agua cristalina como playa Castillo, playa la Paria, y playa Araya, que comprende gran parte de la costa peninsular, sus actividades económicas principales son la pesca y el turismo, estrechamente vinculadas con el mar, para visitar esta población se toma la lancha o ferry en Cumaná y un en tiempo aproximado de 45 minutos y hora y media dependiendo el transporte que uses ya estás en esta hermosa población costera.
Durante el trayecto a esta hermosa población, bañada por las cálidas aguas del mar Caribe, puedes observar parte de las Salinas, el muelle y una vista parcial de la ciudad de Cumaná, de hecho, cuando se visita el sector el Monumento (Cumaná) se observa la península de Araya, es una vista lejana pero se aprecia una pequeña parte de la península, en horas nocturnas se observan las luces de esta población costera, específicamente desde el mirador del Monumento.
Visitar esta población, es una linda experiencia pues tienes la oportunidad de degustar la deliciosa comida; Pescado frito, ensalada, arepa y también puedes disfrutar de un asopado de mariscos, si eres amante de la playa, hay muchas opciones en Araya, que ofrecen una hermosa vista del mar y playas para relajarse con familiares y amigos, durante mi visita a esta ciudad aproveché para tomar varias fotografías desde el bote, la vista es espectacular y se aprecian las ruinas del castillo, construido durante la época colonial, debido a una serie de eventos naturales, la mayor parte de su estructura fue destruida, al entrar a la ciudad se observan algunas paredes y torres del castillo, una de las puertas que conducía a los cuarteles de esta fortaleza.
El castillo recibe el nombre de Real Fortaleza de Santiago de Arroyo de Araya (castillo de Araya y fue un importante punto de control estratégico contra los piratas y corsarios que consecutivamente transitaba la zona del mar Caribe buscando territorios despojar de sus riquezas; en sus tiempos el castillo sirvió de bastión y defensa para la población de Araya y especialmente para proteger las Salinas, en este período de la historia, era un producto con mucha demanda en Europa y otras partes del mundo, lo cual atraía a muchos barcos y comerciantes interesados en apoderarse de esta salina, en vista de esta situación, el rey de España autoriza la construcción del castillo, con la idea de proteger este recurso natural muy usado y que se vendía a excelente precio.
En las fotografías de las ruinas se observan los bloques, columnas y paredes de piedra, principal material que usaron para su construcción, algunas de las paredes están agrietadas, otras se ven por la mitad y también algunos fragmentos en el área donde funcionó este importante castillo que sirvió para proteger y resguardar la ciudad.

At this point, I must say that the view of the beach is beautiful, and the water is a lovely turquoise green. The water is warm and refreshing, ideal for family fun and recreation.
You can also see the mountains of the peninsula in the distance, along with some towers and the homes of the residents of this area. When it comes to visiting eastern Venezuela, the Araya Peninsula in Sucre State is an excellent option to enjoy nature, swim in the warm, crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean Sea, and savor the region's cuisine, especially its traditional fried fish. Every visit to the peninsula is a pleasant and beautiful experience that I enjoy to the fullest. I love feeling the sea water on my skin. When we go on the boat, I always try to find a spot where I can see the water and feel the splashes. This trip was no exception, and with the help of my friend, we managed to get a spot where we could see the sea the entire time. Nature definitely gives us great gifts every day, gifts that, however small they may seem, make all the difference and turn a simple day into a great one.
Upon arriving in Araya, we headed to El Castillo beach. There were few people there, perhaps because of the time of day, but the day was perfect for a good swim.
En las siguientes fotografías se observa las estructuras y construcciones que hay en la ciudad, se ve el muelle o terminal marítimo, algunas casas cerca de la playa, en este punto debo decir que la vista de la playa es hermosa y el color del agua es un verde turquesa muy bonito, son aguas cálidas y refrescantes ideales para la diversión y esparcimiento familiar.
También se observa a lo lejos la montaña de la península, algunas torres y las viviendas de los residentes de esta zona, cuando de visitar el Oriente de Venezuela se trata, la península de Araya, en el estado Sucre, es una excelente opción para disfrutar el contacto con la naturaleza, bañarse en las cálidas y cristalinas aguas del mar Caribe y degustar la gastronomía de la región, con su tradicional pescado frito, cada visita a la península es una agradable y linda experiencia que disfruto al máximo, me encanta sentir el agua del mar caer en mi piel, cuando vamos en el bote, siempre trato de ubicarme en un área donde pueda ver el agua y sentir las chispas de agua, este viaje no fue la excepción y con ayuda de mi amiga logramos conseguir un puesto donde pudimos ver el mar durante todo el recorrido, definitivamente la naturaleza nos da grandes regalos cada día, que por muy pequeños que parezcan hacen la diferencia y que un día sencillo se convierta en un gran día.
Al llegar a Araya, nos dirigimos a la playa el Castillo, habían pocas personas, tal vez por la hora, pero el día estaba perfecto para un buen baño.
