Adventure in Cedeño, looking for a pool to bathe in (Eng - Esp)
Continuing our tour of Cedeño, after crossing the bridge and several streams we saw along the way, we headed towards the lower part of Cedeño. This town is characterized by its location at the foot of the mountain, which affords it a beautiful view. Some houses are located on the upper slopes of the mountain, allowing for a very pleasant climate at night, with a comfortable temperature. During our visit, we arrived at a friend's house, and coincidentally, her house is one of those located on the highest part of the mountain. It has stone steps, and from below, the view is spectacular. The house looks like a small fortress with the mountain in the background.
Upon arrival, we organized our backpacks, packed our food, and gathered all the necessary supplies for our stay in Cedeño. This visit wouldn't be complete without trying the traditional wood-fired soup, also known as sancocho. After chatting with the homeowner and listening to her many amusing anecdotes, we set about preparing the meal. After cooking and enjoying a delicious soup, we rested, and around 11:00 AM, we began our trek to the river. We've visited it several times before, and it always had a strong current and a moderate flow, but this time, due to the dry season, it was literally dry. There were areas where only rocks and stagnant water were visible. I never imagined seeing the river like this. The number of rocks in the riverbed was impressive. I spent several minutes observing the rocks and processing how the river had changed with the dry season. The landscape looked different, and I missed the sound of the water, which used to be so inviting.
Continuando nuestro recorrido por Cedeño, tras cruzar el puente y varios arroyos que vimos en el camino, nos dirigimos hacia la parte baja del pueblo. Este se caracteriza por su ubicación al pie de la montaña, lo que le brinda una hermosa vista. Algunas casas se encuentran en las laderas superiores, lo que permite un clima muy agradable por la noche, con una temperatura confortable. Durante nuestra visita, llegamos a la casa de una amiga, y casualmente, su casa es una de las que se ubican en la parte más alta de la montaña. Tiene escalones de piedra y, desde abajo, la vista es espectacular. La casa parece una pequeña fortaleza con la montaña de fondo.
Al llegar organizamos los morrales, los la comida y todos los implementos necesarios para nuestra estadía en Cedeño, en esta visita no faltar la tradicional sopa en leña, también conocido como sancocho, luego de conversar con la dueña de la casa y escuchar sus divertidas anécdotas, que tiene muchas por cierto, nos dispusimos a preparar la comida, luego de preparar la comida y disfrutar una deliciosa sopa, descansamos y aproximadamente a las 11 de la mañana iniciamos nuestro recorrido hacia el río, lo hemos visitado en varias oportunidades y siempre tenía un caudal abundante y corriente moderada, pero esta vez nos sorprendió, por la temporada de sequía, está literalmente seco, hay áreas donde solo se observan rocas y agua estancada, nunca imaginé ver el río así, la cantidad de rocas que tiene en el lecho es impresionante, estuve varios minutos observando las rocas y procesando como el río había cambiado con la estación seca, el paisaje se ve diferente y extrañé el sonido del agua, que invitaba a bañarse.
Our mission was to swim and cool off in the river. Seeing several dry areas, I was a little discouraged, but with Mrs. Ely's help, we continued up the path in search of other pools she knew very well. The view along the way was beautiful, and according to her, the water was cold, ideal for a refreshing swim. The rocky path was somewhat difficult, especially for the children, so we decided to leave the rocky path and walk alongside the river on small dirt trails, dry branches, and trees. This shortcut allowed us to reach the deeper pools, determined to enjoy a refreshing swim.
The dirt path was easier than I thought; just be careful of the thorny plants and move slowly through the slippery sand. The trail had some inclines, and the sun was a bit strong at that time of day. The rest of the journey, following the routine of walking slowly and being careful of the plants and thorns, went by quickly, and we finally arrived at the pool. When I saw it, I loved it: crystal-clear water, abundant flow, and several round rocks that we used as pillows to lie down and enjoy the cool water. Nuestra misión era bañarnos y refrescarnos en el río, al ver varias zonas secas, me desanimé un poco pero con ayuda de la señora Ely, seguimos el sendero hacia arriba en busca de otras pozas que ella conoce muy bien, la vista del camino es bonita y según su explicación con agua fría, ideal para darnos un refrescante baño, el camino por las piedras fue un tanto difícil sobre todo para los niños, por ello decidimos salir del camino de rocas y caminar bordeando el río por pequeños senderos de tierra, ramas secas y árboles, este atajo nos permitió avanzar hasta las pozas más profundas, firmes en nuestro objetivo de disfrutar un refrescante baño.
El camino de tierra fue más sencillo de lo que pensé, solo tener cuidado con las plantas de espinas y movilizarse despacio por la arena, es resbaladiza, el sendero con algunas inclinaciones y por la hora el sol estaba un poco fuerte, el resto del trayecto siguiendo la rutina de caminar despacio cuidándose de las plantas y los pinchazos se hizo rápido y llegamos finalmente a la poza, al verla me encantó, el agua cristalina, abundante caudal y varias rocas redondas que usamos como almohada para acostarnos y disfrutar el agua fresca, una tina natural rodeada de vegetación y a un lado la montaña.
This pool was a true oasis after our hike in search of a place to swim. The water was crystal clear, and the mountain view was incredible. I loved the scenery. The children, as usual, were the first to want to swim, but first, an adult checked the river's depth and identified the safest areas for them to swim safely. After the exploration, the children went for a swim, and when we left, they didn't want to get out. I understand why, because the water was just right and perfect for a refreshing dip.
It was still early, so we decided to head to another pool recommended by Mrs. Ely. This one is located a little further upstream. The path is made up of rocks that are part of a dry section of the river, but the trail didn't stop us from continuing on and swimming. The view is spectacular, and you can see some rocks, the trees reflected in the water, and the sun's rays, which were gradually getting stronger. But none of this deterred us from continuing on to the next pool. Compared to the previous one, I must say that this one was wider and the water clearer. Here we stopped for about 3 hours, swimming, playing, splashing, walking, and exploring several meters of the area towards the right bank of the river. There are several cultivated areas located around the mountain; some of the crops grown there are pineapple, yucca, corn, among others. We also saw some pack donkeys transporting the produce from the mountain to the houses located several kilometers from the river. I liked this part of the mountain because, although it's in the dry season, it remains relatively green, perhaps due to its proximity to the river, which maintains a constant flow of water. This helps preserve the abundant vegetation with its varied shades of green, creating a beautiful landscape. In several photographs, you can see the view of the mountain, its reflection in the river, and the sun's rays increasing as the day progresses. After several hours in the river, swimming, and playing, we returned home with the lady to rest and continue our journey the next day.
Esta poza fue verdadero oasis luego de nuestra caminata en búsqueda de un espacio para bañarnos, el agua es cristalina y con una vista increíble de la montaña , este paisaje me encantó, los niños como siempre suelen hacerlo, fueron los primeros en querer bañarse, pero antes, un adulto se encargó de verificar la profundidad del río y cuáles eran las zonas más apropiadas para que los niños pudiesen bañarse tranquilamente, terminada la exploración los niños se bañaron y al momento de venirnos no querían salirse del agua y los entiendo porque estaba en su punto y perfecta para un refrescante baño.
Aún era temprano y decidimos avanzar hacia otra poza que nos recomendó la señora Ely, está se ubica un poco más arriba, el camino está formado por rocas que corresponden a la parte seca de un tramo del río, el sendero no fue impedimento para para avanzar hasta allá y aprovechar para seguir bañándonos, la vista es espectacular y se alcanzan a observar algunas rocas, los árboles reflejados en el agua y los rayos del sol que aumentaban progresivamente, pero no impidieron nuestro avance para conocer la siguiente poza; en comparación con la anterior, debo decir que esta era más amplia y el agua más cristalina, aquí hicimos una parada de aproximadamente 3 horas, nos bañamos, jugamos chapoteamos, caminamos y recorrimos varios metros de la zona, hacia el margen derecho del río, hay varias zonas de cultivo ubicadas alrededor de la montaña, algunos de los rubros que se cultivan son piña, yuca, maíz, entre otros, también observamos algunos burros de carga transportando los frutos desde la montaña hasta las casas ubicadas a varios kilómetros del río, esta parte de la montaña me gustó porque aunque está en el período de sequía, se conserva relativamente verde, tal vez por la cercanía al río que mantiene un curso permanente de agua, le ayuda a conservar la abundante vegetación con variados tonos verdes, formando un hermoso paisaje, en varias fotografías se aprecia la vista de la montaña, su reflejo en el río y los rayos solares incrementando a medida que avanza el día, luego de varias horas en el río, bañarnos y jugar volvimos a casa con la señora para descansar y continuar nuestra jornada el día siguiente.

What a beautiful place with stunning views; rivers always have something magical about them. You can see that in the first part of the trail and at the first pool the water level is low, but even so, the smooth rocks look lovely against the landscape and you can really appreciate the beautiful view of the mountains. It’s great that they carried on exploring as recommended; that’s how they reached that second area where they were able to enjoy the water and take those lovely photos.

Saludos @avdesing, fue una gran aventura encontrar una Poza para bañarnos, durante el recorrido pude ver lo seco que estaba el río, nunca había ido en temporada de sequía, además la vista de la montaña es hermosa, esta zona se caracteriza por espectaculares vistas que invitan a disfrutar el contacto con la naturaleza, me encantó visitar la Poza.
Los niños sí que saben aprovechar el tiempo, cuando de bañarse se trata quieren ser los primeros en meterse al río, luego viene la parte no tan divertida porque al momento de irse no quieren salir del agua, esta poza fue un oasis, agua fresca, lindas vistas y rocas como almohadas.

Hi @avdesing, it was quite an adventure finding a natural pool to swim in. Along the way, I could see how dry the river was—I’d never been there during the dry season before. Plus, the view of the mountains is beautiful; this area is known for its spectacular scenery that invites you to enjoy being in nature. I loved visiting the pool.
Kids really know how to make the most of their time. When it comes to swimming, they want to be the first ones in the river. Then comes the not-so-fun part—when it’s time to leave, they don’t want to get out of the water. This pool was an oasis: cool water, beautiful views, and rocks that felt like pillows.
