Una nueva mariposa hace precencia ante mis ojos. No se acercó a mi en ninguno de los linderos de la montaña sino en mi propia casa. Siempre será enocionante para mi recibir estas visitas tan agradables.

Una mariposa tigre como solemos llamarla algunas personas acababa de eclosionar, en sus alas pude notar su reciente nacimiento, aún no estaban estiradas del todo, algunas partes de la punta seguían enrolladas.

A new butterfly makes its presence known before my eyes. It did not approach me at any of the mountain edges but at my own home. It will always be exciting for me to receive such pleasant visits.

A tiger butterfly as some people call it had just hatched, its wings were not yet fully stretched, some parts of the tip were still rolled up.

Ya sabemos de la inquietud de las mariposas. Su vida es volar y andar de flor en flor para absorber néctar. Sin embargo, cuando eclosionan, se quedan muy tranquilas, buscan sol para secar sus húmedas alas y de esta manera lograr extenderlas por completo para poder alzar el vuelo.

We already know about the restlessness of butterflies. Their life is to fly and wander from flower to flower to absorb nectar. However, when they hatch, they remain very quiet, looking for sun to dry their wet wings and thus manage to extend them completely to be able to take flight.

La mariposa buscaba sol y yo la ayudaba a encontrarlo. Pero, primeramente creí importante que se alimentara, ese instinto maternal de nosotras las mujeres la aplicamos hasta en estos momentos. Nadie me dijo que la mariposa tenía hambre, tampoco lo leí en ningún artículo, solo fueron cosas mías.

La coloqué sobre la flor, extendió su espiritrompa y chupó del néctar de la flor. Al parecer mi idea de alimentarla no fue tan mala del todo aunque, pronto volvió en busca de sol.

La mariposa no podía sostenerse entre las ramas por el mismo motivo de sus alas, aún no estaban del todo extendidas. El mejor lugar para ellas luego de eclosionar es el suelo. Allí me mantuve vigilante por un rato.

Ninguno de estos animalitos requieren de la ayuda humana para continuar con sus ciclos solo yo, inquieta, y sentimental creí que necesitaba apoyo pero no es así.

The butterfly could not support itself among the branches for the same reason that its wings were not yet fully extended. The best place for them after hatching is on the ground. There I kept watch for a while.

None of these little animals require human help to continue their cycles, only I, restless and sentimental, thought I needed support, but not so.

Decidí dejarla sola para que buscara su espacio y lamentablemente fue lo peor que hice. No sé en que momento Bady ( mi perrito), acabó con ella. Casi lloro.

La pequeña mariposa no pudo alzar vuelo y solo fueron minutos, luego de la eclosión, lo que pudo vivir.

I decided to leave her alone to find her space and unfortunately it was the worst thing I did. I don't know at what point Bady ( my puppy), ended up with her. I almost cried.

The little butterfly could not take flight and it was only minutes after hatching that she could live.

Estos eventos suelen ocurrir todos los días. Siempre habrá un depredador en el camino de cualquier animal. Los principales enemigos de las mariposas son las aves. El perro, pudo haberse entretenido con el insecto y por eso la mató. Pero, no es su principal depredador.

Quizá ese era mi miedo, dejarla expuesta al peligro.

These events tend to happen every day. There will always be a predator in the path of any animal. The main enemies of butterflies are birds. The dog, may have been entertained by the insect and that's why he killed it. But, it is not its main predator.

Maybe that was my fear, leaving it exposed to danger.

Era mi día de suerte con las mariposas. Sobre la flor de cariaquito, con sus frágiles patitas se apoyaba una mariposa de cuerpo robusto, cabezona y ojos saltones. Estas mariposas son de las especies más pequeñas, siempre llegan hasta aquí cuando la planta florea.

It was my lucky day with butterflies. On the cariaquito flower, with its fragile little legs rested a butterfly with a robust body, big head and bulging eyes. These butterflies are of the smaller species, they always arrive here when the plant is in bloom.
