Oldest farmers market in Styria

avatar

( EN / DE ) Very central in Graz is the Kaiser-Josef-Platz, where farmers from the surrounding area have been selling their goods to the city dwellers since 1879.

The square is right next to the opera and the city park, here you can see a small panoramic photo series from the opera to the market square:

When you enter the market square you will find lots of different regional goods, vegetables, fruits, juices, bread products, sausages, flowers and much more.

Okay, looking at the flowers, not only regional natural products, but at least most of the goods are.

Since we are in Austria, small restaurants and cafes may not be missing, we are just always hungry people it seems, or we just love to eat and drink ;-)

It is a beautiful place and many people from Graz take the opportunity to buy fresh and regional goods there.

The reason why I was there today is this: a natural "cloudy" apple vinegar, which you can not otherwise buy so easily. Especially this natural apple cider vinegar is said to have very health-promoting properties.
Searched, found and with 2.50 EUR not even expensive in comparison:

Back home I had to try the new apple vinegar of course immediately with a salad.

By the way, this type of vinegar is so intense and sharp (sour) that you should dilute it with water beforehand for salads:

Very very tasty and in any case nothing that you can find quickly in the supermarket.

If you're ever in Graz, don't miss going towards the opera and to the market, which is open every normal weekday morning.

This was my #marketfriday post for @dswigle and as always I hope you enjoyed :-) yours, B.

I think so. I have one field and I work on it when I find the time. You get tired, it's true, but it's still a kind of relaxation. I will retire soon and I will have more time for it. And of course for #Hive and #ecency. If my health will serve me at least as well as it now. 😎

I love farmers' markets, and this one looks gorgeous. Especially the flowers are a feast for the eyes.
And well eating and drinking, I love that. So I would like to Austria, hehe;)

Blankets on the chairs in the cafe? We don't have blankets at our cafes. I don't think any of the cafes outside are even open where I live. LOL of course, everything keeps getting covered in deep snow so maybe that's why.

The opera house is stunning! I can imagine the acoustics in there. What a pretty little town that is and the market is actually quite impressive. The produce sold there is top-notch looking. Is your market well-priced or standard compared to grocery stores? Of course, it is hard to compare it and a store as the farmers markets are usually so much better!

Blankets in the cafe? Yes, please! I imagine it would be quite warming on a windy day. Do they not have seating inside?

Apple vinegar is popular here for health. The cloudy appearance did put me off at first, but, I got over it quickly. Great advice on it.

Do they take the whole market down every day and put it back up again? Hello!! Market Friday is running so late this week, apologies! I was under the spell of the family holiday, surrounded by family and obligations, although they are heart-warming wonderful ones! No internet or sketchy at best has been my best friend. Yikes, right? To be honest, I tried and failed to even post this week, but, I was so very happy to see you putting one out! Thank you! I apologize for the delay in answering and I hope you know how much I appreciate the great participation.

I try to let people know how much I appreciate their participation in #MarketFriday! Even though I get many on a weekly basis, each one is read and enjoyed. I find it interesting to compare, not by the world's standards, but, by how we find the quality of our life with different I enjoy learning more about you and hope you feel the same, that is why I find it important to take the time to read a couple of #MarketFriday posts and leave a genuine comment. There have been so many carrying #MarketFriday for me in my absence! I am so happy to see that! I leave you with the guidelines. I hope you are having an amazing week!

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

  1. Go to the market, or anywhere that you pay money for a service. It can be a movie, an auction, or even a museum. Wherever money is exchanged for a service or product. Take pictures! Be creative!
  2. Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost? Was it expensive? Did it go up or down? A scroll of pictures with few words doesn't usually work. Things need to be explained.
  3. Post the pictures. Of course, you should tell a little bit about the ones you post, it is too difficult to guess about some.
  4. Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post (#hive-196308) This is not required but appreciated.
5.PLEASE Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it!!
  5. Following me and reblogging the post would be appreciated, but not a rule, more vision for more views on the #MarketFriday posts!
  6. You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.

As always, please remember! #MarketFriday loves you!
