Broken flower

(Edited)

A short time ago I did some photography, fuscia plants I'd bought with the intention to re-pot into hanging baskets. A few of them were in bloom so I thought I'd take photos.

Fuscia flowers hang downwards making it difficult to get good photos but I managed to prop some up on leaves and the branches of the plant, you can see some of those photos in my post stolen moment. Unfortunately, I managed to pluck one of the flowers completely off and rather than waste it considered how I could photograph it for a post.

I wanted to make it seem bright and pure so a white background came to mind. I don't have the right equipment so used a white serving platter leaned up against the wall in my kitchen as a background. Then I had to work out how to present the flower and I liked the idea of hanging it downwards as in the first image. I hooked a skirt hangar onto the the door handle of an overhead kitchen cupboard and used the clamp on the hangar to hold the stem.

Getting the light right was problematic but I grabbed an LED light my man has in his garage and with the camera on timer (on a tripod) held the light at the right angle to get the shot. In the image above you can just see the LED light reflected in the curvature of the white serving platter at the top.

From there I added a little colour with some leaves, which were plucked from one of the plants (sorry plant) and using the white serving platter flat on the kitchen bench top arranged them to get a few close up shots of the flowers' stamen, the pollen-producing reproductive organ, as you can see above and below.

I didn't get many pictures, one single flower isn't much to work with, but I was really pleased with the outcome considering they were taken in my kitchen with some, what I thought were, very innovative methods.

Thank you, it was a little challenging to get it right, I don't have the right equipment, but it came out ok I think.
