Time To Say Goodbye
Barnes Wallis and Guy Gibson
I spent the morning up at the International Bomber Command Centre in Lincoln. I met up with my son, and my two brothers, one who had flown in from Australia, We had met up to inter our mother's ashes at the Centre. She sadly passed away before covid and this was the first time since then that we have all had the chance to get together.
Homecoming
We had contacted the IBCC to confirm we were allowed and this was eventually agreed upon. Our father had been in the RAF and mum had spent most of her working life as a civilian working in the Officers Mess at (the sadly now closed) RAF Scampton. She loved the IBCC and so, with the closure of Scampton, the IBCC seemed the most appropriate place to spread her ashes.
Operation Manna
Her final resting place was in a rose bed, in sight of the Spire and currently with a temporary honour guard of rusted metal silhouettes which is part of a new art installation at the command centre for a few months,
Standing Guard
It was a beautiful day for it, the sun shining and a glorious blue sky, with just a few clouds to add a touch of drama. A nice day to say "goodbye" (if there is such a day), and a nice location. And another reason for me to visit the IBCC more frequesntly.

About me:
I can mostly be found shooting models, aviation, motorsports and, when I can, wildlife. But I enjoy most aspects of photography. You can find more of my work on the links below.
Sorry for your loss Brian, lovely shots though and certainly a fitting tribute for your mother.
@darrenflinders cheers buddy, much appreciated, it was a few years back now, just the first time I've managed to get together with my brothers. Covid put a stop on our previous plans.
@qurator many thanks, much appreciated
Belated condolences... I think it's a lovely place, and most suitable under the circumstances as you've mentioned. "Fitting tribute" as darrenflinders said...
@ackhoo thank you, that's very kind, and massively appreciated
