Taking You Back To Tank Space

Lady in white

I still have so many images to edit from my two visits to Tankspace. These all feature Liv, a model I have worked with a number of times. She took to the tank so well, and literally within a couple of minutes was swimming round, performing for the group of photographers.

Take a look at yourself

She seemed to be able to hold her breath for an unnervingly long time. Her movements were graceful and, dare I say it, fluid. Whilst she spent around ten to fifteen minutes each session swimming and posing under the water, it's also hard work for the photographers too.

Mermaid

I may have mentioned the Tankspace set up before. The tank is housed in a black-out marquee in a reasonably sized industrial unit. The interior of the tent is pretty cramped when there are more than five or six photographers inside. And it is dark. Oh so dark. Thankfully the tank is reasonably bright, but it takes a few shots to get your settings spot on.

A very high ISO and a fast shutter speed is needed. And most photographers will agree it's pretty much the "spray and pray" method of shooting. I always take such a large number of shots at TankSpace (which is no fun when it is time to curate and edit them).

But at least we all came away with some nice shots, although they can be very very noisy. Most need a bit of work in post, but ignoring the grain, a lot are so worth the effort.

Before and after

The two joined pics above show the before and after. It gives you an idea of exactly how big (small?) the tank is. I generally tend to work on them so they end up like the second shot in the sequence, cloning out or cropping the tank out of the image.

I hope you find the images interesting.

Another lovely mermaid photo shoot. You're a lucky man, but also deserve these occasions :)
