Aviation Photography Fails

Those people and their step ladders

You ever had one of those days? Where everything you do seems to bomb. Well, it seems that today was one of those days. Exercise Cobra Warrior is in its final week (for more info on Cobra Warrior see my earlier post. I thought, as I had a free day, I would pop up and get some shots. Aviation spotters/photographers are a rare breed. They tend to pitch up at events with step ladders (whether they need them or not), they are completely unaware of any other photographers around (or behind!) them. Which is how this shot happened. I was panning as the German Tornado came in to land. Oh well at least the aircraft is still in focus 😂

Hitching a ride

Another panning error, I did manage to get a couple of decent shots before this one, which I thought was almost too funny not to post,

Don't forget about the traffic

Photographers were situated on both sides of the road that runs past one end of the runway. As the aircraft come in the traffic is held up by traffic lights. Again I was panning as this Italian Typhoon came in to land, but forgot about the stationary cars at the traffic lights.

When a tree gets in the way

I was tracking these two Tornados as they were coming back to RAF Waddington. Just as I started shooting I realised the bush I was stood next to was going to pretty much cancel any shots. Although it was a day for some fails, I did manage to get some decent shots so all is not lost. Just goes to show that aviation photography is not always as straightforward as it appears.

Yes, you are right sometimes it is a bad luck. I can imagine how agree you were, especially those shots you can't repeat. Still I am sure you had nice time seeing everything live.
