A Couple Of Hours At Cadwell Park

Wheelie
I've been mainly shooting models - fashion, glamour etc, for the past few years. And over the years I have seen the "industry" become more toxic and spiteful. And expensive! So this year I have made a decision to concentrate on other disciplines that I enjoy shooting. One of those is motorsports, particularly motorbikes.

Speeding Yamaha
Cadwell Park race track is a matter of forty minutes away from my home and they hold regular "track days" A track day is where anyone with a motorbike (or car or sidecar) can come along and get the racing track experience. They are perhaps not quite as exciting as the club championship meets or BSB (British Super Bike), but the one big advantage as a photographer is that there are hardly any spectators. This allows more freedom to move around, get to different vantage points.

Honda Wheelie
I've been to some club meets and BSB, but although the racing is next level exiting (some of those riders have no fear whatsoever), I've always come away with fewer decent shots, either because I couldn't get to a good vantage point or other spectators have bumped into me in their enthusiasm or managed to get body parts into my shots.

Out in front
So, track days it is for me (the other advantage too is that track days are free for spectators). I really wanted to push myself on this visit so slowed my shutter down to 1/100th second, to try and get better blur on the wheels. If I am honest I got a few real clunkers but did manage to get enough shots that are sharp enough to show. I could always do with a bit more practice though - any excuse to get out to Cadwell for a few hours. (Oh and did I mention the decent nosh in the club house - always a bonus).

About me:
I can mostly be found shooting models, aviation, motorsports and, when I can, wildlife. But I enjoy most aspects of photography. You can find more of my work on the links below.

Great shots as always Brian... Cadwell park is still on my 'to-do list' to get to at some point. I imagine it'd feel similar to shooting Aircraft stuff but with less geeky aviation twats involved!
@dannewton Many thanks Dan. I really enjoy it mate, can be very fast paced. And as you say, the added bonus of none of the arseholes that attend aviation events. I think we might be going over this weekend if you wanted a lift. Full weekend of track days (Fri, Sun, Mon bike track days and Sat is a car track day). You and more than welcome to hop in the car mate (when we decide on the day). Free to get in, but we do tend to go to the club house for food.
Yep I'd totally be up for that if you happen to be passing through (I can do either saturdays or sundays (I can usualy rearrange other stuff with a bit of notice)
I'm not sure I will be able to do this weekend though as Dawn has come home from uni for Easter and we'll be going out somewhere interesting hopefully
How long do they last for? is it all day, or just mornings etc
@dannewton cool mate, will let you know next time we go, Its usually on from around 9 until 7-ish in the summer, but tbh we usually only stay two or three hours. You can get enough shots in that time. I went to Spalford Warren the other day for the first time. Had heard there are woodpeckers there. Was there for ages, and saw one squirrel and didn't have my camera ready lol.
er yes I can imagine it would be easy to get trigger happy! That'd be great Brian, Thank you.
Not heard of Spalford Warren, but had a quick google and it looks quite interesting... theres loads of little reserves like that dotted across Lincolnshire. Its good to see you branching out into other areas of photography... planes then bikes and now wildlife, a bet it's a welcome change of pace!
oh, and you always need a camera ready, who knows what you might see next...
A lot less drama @dannewton 😃Yep I need to get out to a few more nature reserves, but sometimes I'm a little short on patience
