I love that you do a freestyle in addition to the contest. And yes, I see the similarities. I almost missed the fact that the planet was the pupil of an eye, and that really is the theme, isn't it?
The first one appeals to me more, because it is optimistic and I need optimism :) The eye is an a amazing effect, but in a way it seems sinister.

Regardless of the theme, this collage is a series of connected stories. In the first one, a boy wants to fly away from his island even though he has no wings. He decided to fly using his balloon. Whereas in the second picture, the angel cuts her wings so she can live on her island and wait for the boy in the first picture.
