Creating a Small Garden to Maximize My Outdoor Space

This morning, the weather looks promising after heavy rain last night. Though the sun shines brightly today, it's not as scorching as yesterday, which could really burn your skin when outdoors. The warmth of the sun feels just right for outdoor activities.

While waiting for the laundry to spin and wash, I decided to tidy up my room this morning. I rearranged the aquarium in my room to get direct sunlight. I positioned it right under the window where the morning sun shines directly. I needed a fresh view for my room, and tweaking its layout a bit seemed to help. Looking out the window, I thought about turning the pile of rotting wood outside into something new. Why not make a little garden there? It seems like a nice idea that would also liven up the dull exterior of my room.

After finishing laundry and getting the interior just the way I wanted, I immediately rushed to take over the exterior.

Actually, the outside area of my room was just an empty yard. Compared to the other side of our house, this area was never touched for gardening. It was covered in foliage from the trees around the house, with minimal sunlight reaching the area. But some time ago, one of the lush trees was trimmed because it leaned too much toward the house, and yes, now the sunlight shines better in this area.

To make my idea come to life, there was a lot of work to be done out there. I didn't have time to take pictures during the transfer and construction of the beds because I was too excited to do this, so I only took pictures after the beds were finished.

First, I moved all the rotting wood elsewhere and made the beds here. I made these beds using some of the rotting wood that had piled up here. Then I filled the soil with remnants of burning. But before giving the soil, I provided organic waste at the bottom so that the bottom soil was softer.

Initially, I only wanted to plant spinach in this small garden because spinach can grow well anywhere. I still have red spinach and green spinach seeds that I haven't spread since I bought them some time ago. It seems like spinach can grow well and green up this side faster. Then I remembered that I had some tomato seedlings that had grown and had enough time to be moved.

Here, I took some tomato plants from the seed media that I shared their update with you some time ago. I took three vegetable tomato and four rose tomatoes to fill this bed, sharing space with spinach that I will also spread here. Half of the land for tomato, the other half is the spinach.

If the bottom part is vegetables, I put some flowers on the top to boost my spirit when I open the window in the morning. I took some flowers from the side of the house. I have just moved rose flowers into pots a few days ago, I also brought my mother's blooming rose flowers, and also one of my father's banyan trees. I hope the roses will bloom and grow well here.

Oh, by the way, I have to cover the beds with leaves to avoid being destroyed by chickens. This fresh, new soil is a soft target for chickens to look for food. Moreover, I found a lot of worms while moving the soil into these beds. Hopefully, the worms will be happy in this new place. That way, they can eagerly fertilize this small garden.

It's great to see the outcome of your plan. I guess it was tiring yet fulfilling. 😊
