In the wilds of gardening or mysterious tomatoes.
The search for the optimal way to grow garden crops can be compared to the search for new lands in a time when maps did not exist and everything you find does not accurately represent the full scope of information about the find itself.
So, yesterday I came across an interesting way of planting tomatoes on a piece of land where potatoes had previously grown.
As the author of this information said the soil is contaminated with late blight which I readily believe and he suggested getting rid of it by surface watering the soil with a solution of copper sulfate.
Copper sulfate is a strong poison, in theory it is capable of destroying parasites but as for fungal formations, such as late blight I doubt it, and in the soil.
As far as I know late blight is combated with a solution of iodine but not with copper sulfate.
Typically copper sulfate is used when spraying plants on top of the leaf but not as a root watering.
This was a strange decision for me and I want to study this issue further.
Next, the same gardener having made a furrow in the garden bed and sprinkled it with ashes laid out the seedlings at a distance of no more than twenty centimeters from each other spilled water at the rate of half a liter on each tomato bush and covered the seedlings with soil thus hilling up the bush.
All! So he said moreover, these seedlings do not need to be watered just hill them one more time and the harvest will be excellent.
Yes, I forgot to say that he did not carry out all these experiments in a greenhouse and in the open ground the soil was little like black soil.
I think that those who arrange drip irrigation, or water tomato bushes every week nervously smoke on the sidelines looking at this technique.
I'm not sure that I want to follow this method, even if it saves a lot of time and effort it is too strange for me and without an evidence base.
