Salse di Nirano - Mud volcanoes b/n

This is my entry for #monomad challenge by @monochromes.

We are near Nirano town, in a place called 'Salse di Nirano' (Emilia Romagna, Italy).
Here previous post in color.

'Salse di Nirano' (English translation is Nirano sauces) is an ancient place where the salty muddy water, from the ocean that was here one million of years ago, reaches the surface, together with methane emission.

The place where muddy water emerges from the ground seems like small volcanoes:

In this place there are several mini-volcanos, inside a semi-circular area where Appennini mountain range meets the river Po plain:

Mud becomes dry, creating a clods patterns typical of a desert:

All around the area, the ancient backdrop of the ancient ocean, eroded by natural events:

Wow
You just made me realize what dry mud on the floor would actually look like…
It’s beautiful and I love it more in black and white
