Hello everyone

Cooking was never my forte. I usually took the easy route, grabbing ready-made meals or hitting up a nearby eatery. But today was different. My son looked up at me and said, "Mom, can we have glass noodle salad?"

His request struck a chord, so off I went to the market to get the ingredients. This market, a lively place, only opened up in the afternoon. Seafood, veggies, and spices filled the stalls, creating a vivid scene.

In the late afternoon, I decided to head to the market to pick up the fixings for a salad. This particular market only sprung to life in the afternoons, a vibrant hub of commerce. It was a treasure trove of goods, with everything from succulent shrimp to a variety of shellfish, crab, and an assortment of fish. There were neatly arranged cuts of pork, plump chickens, and an abundance of crisp, fresh vegetables and fruits. The market also catered to the busy souls seeking ready-made meals, an array of snacks, and even a section for clothing and other wares.

Though I wasn't much of a chef for myself, I found solace in strolling through the sections teeming with fresh produce. The sight of those large shrimp and the vibrant display of vegetables never failed to ignite a flicker of culinary inspiration in me. It was a rare occurrence, but one that always brought a chuckle to my lips. Cooking wasn't my usual pastime, but the market had a funny way of stirring up that desire every now and then. Ah, life's little quirks!

Navigating through the lively market, I made a beeline for the vegetable stall. There, I carefully selected a bunch of shimeji mushrooms and a bunch of celery, knowing they would be the perfect finishing touches for the salad. The celery, with its faintly pungent aroma, promised to add a unique kick to the dish. With my chosen ingredients in tow, I continued my exploration of the bustling market.

Next, I made my way to the condiment stall, a treasure trove of flavor-enhancing ingredients. The shelves were lined with an array of curry pastes, fish sauce, shrimp paste, and various other seasonings, each promising to elevate the taste of any dish.

After browsing through the offerings, I settled on the essentials I needed. Then, at a nearby stall, I picked up a small package of vermicelli. It was just the right amount to satiate the appetites of three hungry souls. With my loot in hand, I felt a sense of satisfaction knowing that every component for the glass noodle salad was now in my possession.

Realizing I was still missing a key ingredient, I headed over to the fresh pork stall. There, I requested half a kilogram of minced pork. It was the crucial component that would lend the salad its hearty depth of flavor.

In my kitchen, I had a little trick up my sleeve. I'd often whip up a batch of stock using ground beef, a versatile base that could be employed in a multitude of dishes. This time, though, pork was the star of the show. As I left the stall with the freshly minced meat, I felt confident that the salad was about to become something truly special.

Absolutely, plump shrimp were a must-have. Right beside the fresh pork stall, I made my way over to the vibrant fresh shrimp stand. Their glossy shells gleamed in the market's light, a testament to their freshness. I knew without a doubt that these succulent shrimp would be the key to making my salad truly delicious. With a satisfied smile, I selected a handful of the finest specimens, eager to bring them into the mix.

With all the ingredients in hand for the salad, I swung by my go-to grilled meatball shop. I knew my son would appreciate this savory addition. After securing a batch of those mouthwatering meatballs, I couldn't resist grabbing a couple of other cooked, ready-to-eat treats from the nearby stalls.

Now, laden with both the supplies for the salad and these delectable extras, I headed home, eager to prepare a special meal for my son.

Back at home, I wasted no time in getting started on the salad. I began by meticulously cleaning the freshly purchased shrimp. Their shells were swiftly removed, and their heads deftly separated. With care, I peeled away the shells and meticulously removed the dark lines running along their backs.

Once the initial cleaning was done, I gave the shrimp a thorough rinse to ensure they were pristine and ready for the dish. Each step was performed with a sense of purpose, knowing that these details would make all the difference in the final result.

Then, it was time to bring all the elements together. The cooked shrimp and pork, tender glass noodles, flavorful mushrooms, and crisp celery were combined into a tantalizing medley. And of course, the pièce de résistance was the ready-made salad sauce that I had ordered from a Facebook page. It was a convenient secret weapon in my kitchen arsenal—no need for any additional cooking. A simple pour and a taste test, and the salad would be transformed into a delectable masterpiece. It was a quick and easy way to elevate the dish to a whole new level of deliciousness.
