A Visit to Church of the advent in the Land of Nkpor; a place different and unique on its own
Hello everyone, hope you're doing great. Today is such a sunny day. I had the privilege of visiting a church that has captivated my mind for quite some time now. It's an Anglican church whose name is church of the advent, located along the road in Nkpor Idemili North Local Government area of Anambra State, Nigeria.
The first day I took notice of this church was while on the road as I am passing through to get to another location. They say first impressions matter. At first I thought it was a catholic church because on my first day of noticing the church, I saw a large number of people on the outside as the inside was filled up.
One thing I thought of is that I've never seen a catholic church so small to not accommodate all of its members. I held unto the belief that it is a catholic church until I now had to set out time to visit the place myself and explore to see things out for myself.
Nkpor is a peaceful fast developing town filled with people who are particularly business oriented. Unlike some other regions there are not much vacant lands and the vacant ones are not used for any agricultural purposes. The indigenous people of Nkpor believe more in their traditional way of life so those among them who go to church mostly combine the worship images in the form of idol traditionally and they still go to church. Majority of them are catholic church members. Currently the Nkpor region is experiencing serious dryness due to lack of rain for many months because of the Harmattan season. Mostly at night it is hot but it gets cool around 12 - 1am till around 10 am. This is my own personal experience in one of my recent visits that resulted in spending the night.
As I set out and got to the church of the advent, another thing I noticed was that the church had allowed members of the Community to be fetching water freely from their pipe borne water. There were a large number of people waiting in line to get to their turn of fetching water from the source. Just a few meters away I saw another public water source but there were no crowds there, only a few people went to the source to fetch, it was a kind of confirmation to me.
When I crossed the church gate and entered into the church compound I was really amazed to discover that the church is quite bigger than it looks from the outside (roadside view) but it still can't be compared to other churches in the Nkpor region when it comes to size.
The church also doesn't seem to be as old as other big churches in the region because most of the materials used in the building are more of modern materials, though according to Christian beliefs, the size of the church doesn't matter as long as the spirit of God is there. Inside of the church is not too spacious with a few long sits as is usually found in churches and the compound was interlocked all through in such a way that no sand can be seen nor any weed. Everything one can see within the compound are things that were put in their desired position which makes it look quite cute.
The church building from the outside can be seen as a one storey building but from within the compound, it can clearly be seen that the church is a two storey building. The architectural design of the church is quite amazing as it takes a unique shape suitable for the land form and to be contained within its limited environment.
I didn't regret transporting myself to this unique church location to satisfy my eyes and to bring it to the beautiful notice of the amazing members of this community.
Thank you very much for stopping by to see my post.
