Oryctes rhinoceros or often called the Horned Beetle.

Hi everyone who has always been loyal to this CCH community. Especially for you photography lovers. How are you all doing? May the best news always be with you. On this occasion, I would like to share my photography of an animal called a beetle. When I was relaxing, I suddenly saw this star and I was interested in capturing it. Some of these photos I took using my smartphone.

Beetles are a group of insects that make up the order Coleoptera. The distribution of beetles is very wide. Beetles can be found in all major habitats, except for the oceans and polar regions. They interact with their ecosystems in a variety of ways. Some beetle species are detritus producers, breaking down dead animal and plant tissues, feeding on the carcasses of certain species, and eating garbage. Some species eat fungi. Some species are flower and fruit eaters. There are also species that are parasites or parasitoids. Some other species are predators of other invertebrates. Many of these predatory beetle species are important as agricultural pest controllers. For example, beetles in the family Coccinellidae prey on aphids, scale insects, thrips, and other plant-sucking insects that can cause damage to crop yields.

Beetles are the largest insect order, with 350,000-400,000 species in four suborders (Adephaga, Archostemata, Myxophaga, and Polyphaga), making up about 40% of all described insects, and about 30% of all animals. Although classification at the family level is somewhat unstable, about 500 families and subfamilies are known. Coleoptera are found in almost all natural habitats, including freshwater and marine habitats.

Because there are so many species of this animal, I don't really understand where the beetle I photographed belongs. Because one with another is very similar. But according to what I saw, this beetle belongs to the Oryctes rhinoceros species. Or often called horn beetles in my area. The horned beetle is a type of rhinoceros beetle (Dynastinae) that is widely distributed in Southeast Asia, to the east to the island of Irian, to the north to the island of Formosa. Adult beetles are black or dark brown in color. Body length is 3.5-4.5 cm with a horned head. The horns of male beetles are longer and curved backwards, while the horns of female beetles are protrusions. This beetle is commonly found on various types of palm trees, laying eggs on the decaying trunk of the host plant. The horned beetle is one of the pests that cause the death of young oil palms up to 1.0-2.5 percent.

That's some knowledge about this animal. Hope this was useful and you liked and enjoyed it. Thank you for everything. See you next time. I take my leave, greetings from a lover of nature and what lies within it.
