Wali Nanggroe and Minister of Home Affairs Discuss Strengthening Aceh's Special Institution |
The Wali Nanggroe Aceh, His Excellency Tgk. Malik Mahmud Al-Haythar, held a special meeting with the Minister of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Tito Karnavian, at the Minister's official residence on Jalan Widya Chandra, South Jakarta, on Wednesday evening, October 15, 2025.
The meeting, which took place from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM WIB (Western Indonesian Time), took place in a warm and respectful atmosphere. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed in depth the strengthening and independence of the Wali Nanggroe Aceh Institution, which is a traditional and cultural leadership institution as stipulated in Law Number 11 of 2006 concerning the Governance of Aceh (UUPA).
The Wali Nanggroe emphasized that institutional strengthening is crucial to ensure the Wali Nanggroe Institution can carry out its constitutional mandate sustainably.
"We discussed the importance of strengthening the institutional system and financial aspects so that the Wali Nanggroe Institution can function independently and effectively in upholding the dignity of Aceh's special status," said Wali Nanggroe, as reported by Zulfikar Idris, Head of Cooperation and Public Relations for Wali Nanggroe.
Furthermore, Wali Nanggroe also conveyed the importance of strengthening the role of the Aceh Sharia Court, as mandated by the UUPA, as an integral part of a justice system based on Islamic values and the local wisdom of the Acehnese people.
During the meeting, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian welcomed the Wali Nanggroe Institution's commitment to strengthening Aceh's institutional governance based on the principle of special status. "The central government supports any effort aimed at strengthening the implementation of the UUPA consistently and equitably," Tito said.
The meeting was also attended by several key officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, including the Director General of Regional Administration, Dr. Safrizal ZA; the Director General of Regional Financial Development, Dr. Drs. Agus Fatoni, M.Si., and the Head of the Information Center (Kapuspen) of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Benni Irwan.
Meanwhile, representatives from the Wali Nanggroe Institution (Lembaga Wali Nanggroe) also accompanied the Wali Nanggroe: the Chief Justice of the Aceh Sharia Court, Dr. Drs. H. Zulkifli Yus, M.H., Special Staff M. Raviq, and the Head of the Lembaga Wali Nanggroe Secretariat, Abdullah Hasballah.[]
