View of the Indian Ocean from the Peak of the Kilometer 0 Monument on Sabang Island.

Welcome back!

Every time I go to Sabang Island, which is located at the westernmost tip of Indonesia, I always go to Kilometer 0 Monument even though time is very limited. I have been to Sabang dozens of times and always go to [//]:# (!worldmappin 5.90605 lat 95.21678 long d3scr). Sometimes, I don't really want to go there, but just accompany my friends in one group.

When accompanying students participating in the Freedom Exchange Program, I also visited Kilometer 0 Monument. It wasn't me who invited them, but they had heard about Kilometer 0 Monument before.

Finally, I returned to Kilometer 0 Monument with a different atmosphere. Lastly, I visited Kilometer 0 Monument and climbed to the top of the monument.

The view above is truly different. We can witness the beauty of the Indian Ocean with its blue water. For me, looking at the Indian Ocean reminds me of the earthquake and tsunami disaster on December 26, 2024, which claimed more than 200 thousand lives.

Being at the top of the monument, the view of the Indian Ocean is very exotic. We feel like we are seeing a vast ocean without borders. I often think about the countries across the ocean. This is a strategic route that should be utilized for the economic growth of the Acehnese people. Unfortunately, this potential has not been developed optimally and professionally.

The wind at the top of the monument is also very fresh, so it dispels the heat that hits. Well, one of the unpleasant things about being at the top of Kilometer 0 Monument is the air that makes it stuffy.

In addition to climbing to the top of the monument, don't forget to enjoy the surrounding nature. There is access to the beach with big waves, but when I was last there, the access was closed because the boardwalk was starting to rot with age. So, it is very dangerous for visitors who dare to go down there.

If time at the location is very limited, getting time to take pictures at the Kilometer Zero Monument marker is very difficult, especially during the holiday season or weekends. There are so many visitors who want to take pictures there that we have to queue for quite a long time.

One thing that must be considered is safety, especially when you take pictures at various locations. In front of the kilometer zero monument, because many visitors want to take pictures to the top of the monument, sometimes they are not aware of the road conditions. In front of the monument there is a sharp bend that is often taken by vehicles. If you are not careful, an accident could happen.
After dozens of times to Kilometer 0 Monument, am I bored and will I stop going there?

The answer is no. I will still go to Kilometer 0 Monument if I have the chance because the atmosphere is always different.

Under the monument, there are many souvenirs typical of Sabang that are sold at low prices. For visitors from other cities or countries, they usually also make a certificate that they have visited there.

Hmmm, that reminds me. I have been to Kilometer 0 Monument dozens of times but never made a certificate.

Maybe, my presence there is not valid because I do not have a certificate.[]

The Kilometer 0 Monument seems like such a fascinating place! The breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean, combined with the historical significance, make it a spot worth revisiting. It’s interesting how each visit feels different, even after so many trips. Maybe next time, you should get that certificate—it would be a fun keepsake of all your visits!

The Kilometer 0 Monument is indeed an impressive place, both in nature and history, because this place is considered as the Kilometer 0 of Indonesia in the western part. The Indian Ocean and the surrounding nature are already very beautiful.

Thanks for the advice about the certificate. Maybe I should make one.
