My First Tour In A Radio Station

Radio channels are our only source of information and entertainment way back when electricity wasn't yet installed in our place. It gives life and color to our worlds when Television was still out of the picture. Every day, the dramas, news, and music were the most awaited part and people couldn't contain their excitement every time they hear their favorite voice actors playing stories that hooked their listeners' attention for hours. In a young age, I was amazed too of their skills and how they can deliver the story well with the different background sounds they produced. Also, it was awesome to know that every voice actors can change their voices in order to create another character.

Radio is a part of how people catch up with relevant information in the past decades, and even up until now, radios are continuously thriving in the air using different mediums too, just to keep up with modernization and technology. Nowadays, they're not just on air but also on live in social media platforms. In this way, people can still play their recordings even though they might miss an epsiode and watch it everywhere in their own free time, then watch it over again if they want to.

Recently, I have the honor to have a free tour in a compound where a famous Radio Station here in Bacolod is located, at Radyo Bandera Sweet FM 103.9 DYQU. I'm very much acquainted with the HR Manager of the station and his wife for we are buddies in a National Rescue Organization. When I was looking for a company to apply at for my On the Job Training, I inquired with them if they're accepting interns and they gladly reserved a slot for me in their sister company, the Clinica De Alternativo Medicina and Wellness, Inc. whereas his wife is the Accounting Manager of all the branches in Bacolod.

I went here with my foster father since they have a segment here regarding Educational topics every Sunday morning. I have to submit my requirements already because they have been expecting me for ages, but the office next to the station are still closed, so my father gave me a tour inside the studio where they are recording live in their segment.

They let me sit here in the main anchor's position and I feel like I was a DJ with this microphone, monitors, and a Sound Control Panel in front of me. Actually, I'm just here to take as many pictures as I can because I don't know when will I come back here again.

My foster father's brother, and his co-anchor as well in their segment is reading his script while waiting for their guest and the program to start on air. We went out for a while to check again in the office, and it is open. He left me with the Accounting Manager and we talked about my application. She gives me a brief orietation of my working setup and I passed the files required, then excused myself to go back to the studio as I wouldn't start working there yet.

They still had a few minutes before they go on air, so I had the time to look around and be amazed of the luxury around the compound. They're not just an ordinary radio station, but they provide well the necessary equipment that their employees need in capturing headlines and broadcasting. They also have an ambulance where they let different Rescue Organizations around Bacolod to collaborate with them. The rescuers respond to the scene, and the radio station can feature the news. I have onboarded their ambulance twice actually and was featured in their Facebook page.

It was a memorable and exciting experience. Though I don't aim for popularity, it gave me pride seeing my name mentioned in that piece of information published in the media. And now, I'm currently here in a station where my biological father loved the most and I'll be working here for few months starting next week. I often recall the feeling of those nights where I responded every time I see their ambulance and wishing that I can onboard their in it again to give sevice to the people.

In the previous weeks, I was only watching their program live on their Facebook page and always been eager to learn another topic about the education sector. Right at that moment, I was able to witness it live personally. Where I saw how they deliver the program smoothly, how articulate the speakers talk about the topic, and the professionalism of the anchors and teachers by sharing their different persoectives on the given topic for that day.

Behind the glass at the next room is the control panel and the one sending transmissions on air, so they can still be heard on traditional radios as far as their frequencies can be heard. Cameras are stationed in front of them to broadcast them on social media, and a monitor on the wall to let them see their setup.

An hour is surely very short for speakers who are too immersed in discussing the topics to educate the listeners. If permitted, they might have extended another hour or so just to impart all the knowledge they have, but an hour is the only allocated time for the program because there are lots of programs lined up after that.

Their intentions for promoting this program is very inspirational and I'm rooting for their segment's sucess every week. I hope they can gain lots of listeners and supporters in the future, so they can continue pursuing their advocay and educate people in a wider scope.

And that's how my weekend was spent. Thank you for reading!
