The mission to show humanity...

Photography not only captures moments, but also those looks that say so much about people, the expressions on their faces, their everyday activities, from the simplest things like walking to complex issues such as a festival, a job... life itself.

In this second part of this wonderful exhibition, where photography manages to capture human beings at their best, by photographer Jürgen Schadeberg, I bring you his vision of photography.

I know many good photographers here at Hive, and they know who I mean because I've told them. Jürgen's photographs remind me of them, of all those members of this platform and ecosystem who are behind a camera, capturing moments, streets, at just the right moment, street photography.

This quote from Jürgen is very intense and perfect, talking about capturing the humanity of people in every photo he took. How beautiful it is to do that, as if each one contained the essence of the people, reflecting their inner selves, their souls.

20250608_161000.jpg

The looks say a lot, as do body language and facial expressions, but in addition to capturing those details, Jürgen says in that quote that photography is about showing oneself, and that is one of the most complicated things to do.

I believe that this great artist of photography has achieved this through his work, showing who he is, a person sensitive to human experiences, to every experience that a person lives, from work, vacations, gatherings with family or friends, as well as walking, posing for a photo, religious or cultural festivities, traditions. He knew how to capture all of that.

20250608_161204.jpg

Throughout the exhibition, there were photographs of bullfights, as well as festivities, specifically the verdiales, which I will bring you next time. This photograph is one of the most outstanding in the exhibition. A few selected ones were made in giant size, occupying the height of the wall up to the ceiling. You can clearly see in this shot the humanity I am talking about, those faces, those women gathered in a house, that moment.

20250608_160306.jpg

In this second part of his wonderful works that I am bringing you today, you can see a little bit of all of that. There were so many photographs, more than 90, that on many occasions I placed two or three in the same shot.

20250608_160633.jpg

I will also tell you that I really don't know what type of glass they used for these photographs, because I didn't have to struggle with reflections; I could take the photos calmly, without the interference of lights, shadows, or my own reflection. I think there were only two or three where I had to position myself at a special angle to capture the images. So I am very satisfied with this tour.

20250608_161231.jpg

As there were several quotes from the artist, I wanted to include them all and separate them by theme, grouping the photographs that were most related to the quotes, so the order of the photographs took me quite a long time, but I think the end result is worth it.

And of course, I would love to know if there is a favorite among all the photographs. I think mine, from this series, is the woman standing in a white dress on the beach, like the women I mentioned earlier.

Thank you all for joining me today. I wish you a very good Sunday. See you soon.
Amonet.

All photographs are my own.

Hello Love, good morning

It's clear this artist loved seeing people's expressions and knew how to photograph them.

My favorite is the two women reading. In the image, you can see the real interest in reading on their faces.

As always, you showed us another beautiful exhibition.

Have a beautiful Sunday.

How are you, dear friend @avdesing?

I've always liked photographs of people, especially family gatherings or those walking in the streets, although I rarely photograph them.

I like these photographs, which don't require translation; they speak for themselves.

Your city is full of charm; these exhibitions are truly beautiful.

Have a beautiful day.

What a wonderful photo exhibition to see!... Thank you so much for sharing this!... At first I thought they were without glass, but after reading your article I think they used anti-reflective glass (which is made by spraying a special coating on it using a special technique called "cathode sputtering " or just "sputtering", which I understand makes it considerably more expensive) for the mounting of these photos, so you didn't have to fight too much with the reflected light... Have a great week @avdesing friend!!!

I still have so much to learn!!! That was definitely the method they used, because they had glass but I didn't know why it wasn't shining, and it's great!!! I loved it because I could take close-up photos without any problems and without reflecting myself. Thank you very much, I'm enjoying photography more and more every day!🤗

Hello @avdesing, Jürgen Schadeberg certainly captured an entire era. I can say the same thing I said when I commented on your first instalment of this exhibition. In the photograph you pointed out with that group of women dressed in black, I was struck by the fact that they were surrounded by paintings...

There are photographs that already herald the new, tourism and a new culture that I believe has never managed to do away with tradition.

Thank you very much for sharing the work of this creator.

I told you that I might publish something today... but travelling is tiring.

A big hug. Thank you again.

That's one of my favourite photos, it's really good! No, they haven't managed to get rid of the traditions, I hope that with the invasion that's happening at the moment they won't manage to do so either...

Rest well! See you tomorrow! Good night!

I'll take a stroll around Hive for a while, and tomorrow will be another day... Thanks again for sharing the work of such incredible creators. See you tomorrow... I'll be resting, and I hope you can too.

Good night. 🤗👋

My favourite from this part of the exhibition. Nowadays, we would see two kids with phones in their hands, in the same pose 😁

When I saw her, I thought the same thing... what a change, right? It was healthier to read a magazine...

Photography used to be such a mysterious craft, and you can tell how the photographer took great care with composition.

La Tirada del Copo en la Playa Los Boliches is my favourite. I really love the composition of this image. A photographer can’t afford to be shy, he must know how to approach their subject with great skill, but also with deep respect. And Jürgen Schadeberg knew how to do that beautifully. Thank you, Amonet, for guiding us through the charming twists and turns of street photography. 🙂
