The Castañé Collection – Russian Museum 📷 Malaga – Spain

Not only is the art of a specific artist impressive, but it is also wonderful to be able to admire collections from different people who have acquired works by various artists, as is the case with the beautiful Castañé collection.

Within the city of Malaga, there is a fantastic museum where wonderful art exhibitions are always on display and where there is a special space dedicated to everything related to Russian art and culture. Of course, there are also other temporary exhibitions of a different nature, but the truth is that the museum always devotes a lot of attention to its own culture.

During this visit, I was able to observe the excellence of Russian art in general. As I mentioned on another occasion, the Russian museum's facilities are an architectural marvel that I will tell you about another time, but this time I am here to show you an extensive and beautiful collection of art by various Russian artists.

But before reaching the rooms where the works of art were located, I passed through a very interesting corridor with various writings on the walls, displayed in three languages, Spanish, Russian, and English, which talk about the importance of works of art such as paintings for the museum, but also about a very important art form such as cinema. Of course, with an emphasis on Russian art. In this way, the museum attaches great importance to audiovisual content and gives it a place of honor.

The atmosphere created by the museum in its different spaces is very good. Although many areas are quite dark, which is understandable for the preservation of the works of art, there is sufficient lighting to appreciate them one by one. On the other hand, before entering the room where the works were located, there was a perfectly decorated antechamber, as if it were a place where visitors could take some time, for example, to read a book.

This art exhibition, which includes a large collection, is called “Beyond Its Time” and features a compilation of different themes and techniques used by many artists, with works dating from the late 19th century to the end of World War II. As I always say, I love that there is necessary information on the walls accompanying the exhibition, to give a better idea of what one is seeing.

The selection of works is exquisite, and some are quite rare but beautiful, with a significant variety, from classical to cubist art. As mentioned in the writings, the predominant theme is the avant-garde, and all the works in the collection revolve around that, the avant-garde art that existed in Russia from 1910 to 1930.

In addition to the varied techniques, the themes are also varied, including still lifes, several portraits, and cities and landscapes. Most of the artists are Russian, but there are also artists of other nationalities. Castañe created this collection by purchasing works at Russian auctions. It is an international collection that includes Kandinsky, for example, but also Diego Rivera.

José María Castañe has compiled beauty and quality throughout these decades, turning this collection of works of art into something surprising, where visitors can walk through the rooms appreciating different styles, but also very interesting works such as the one used to open the exhibition.

There is a great deal of sobriety and elegance in this spectacular tour. The walls were painted dark green and white, providing contrasts for the works. One of the things that amazed me was the care taken with them, how well maintained they were, and above all the details of the frames, all of which were very fine and period pieces. Every detail was very well cared for.

In this exhibition, you can see not only oil paintings, but also drawings and watercolors.

In many cases, if not almost all, it was very difficult for me to take photographs because of the reflection of the lights on the glass of the paintings as well as my own reflection in them, but I was able to capture each and every one of the works and here they are. This collection is a great treasure from that avant-garde period.

Of course, if you have a favorite work or one that you really liked, I would love to hear about it in the comments. The one I have included above has been my favorite because of its colors and style.

At the exit of the exhibition hall, all or almost all museums have special decorations, as well as a shop where you can buy souvenirs or items related to the exhibitions currently on display at the museum.

It has been a privilege for me to be able to attend and enjoy this great and valuable art collection. I have enjoyed it very much.

Thank you very much for joining me today. Best regards. See you soon.

Good morning, Amonet.

What a beautiful exhibition! I love how they decorated the anterooms, especially the one where they simulated the pages of a book.

My favorite work is a colorful landscape with lots of nature.

I love these exhibitions, which you always visit.

Have a beautiful day.

Hello @avdesing, I wasn't familiar with José María Castañé's collection. The exhibition is very comprehensive. It includes landscapes and everyday scenes, as well as avant-garde works and even some from the socialist period. I think it's an exhibition that is made even more interesting by the use of different techniques.

I liked several works, including some by Kandinsky, of course, and some of the early book covers.

But I would like to highlight the one by Lissitzky, because of the technique: lithography. And because it is a good representative not only of the avant-garde, but also because of its “proximity” to Soviet poster art.

The work you chose is also very beautiful.

Thank you very much for this tour...

A big hug.

They are wonderful works, different styles, but all beautiful. And seeing so many different artists, all together, has delighted me. Lithographs are something I didn't pay much attention to before, but now I notice them too.

I saw you!!! I'm reading it little by little, but I don't think it will take me a week, ha ha ha. It's great!!!

Thank you very much!!

Hello again... someday I'll have to visit that museum... A well-made lithograph is something very special...

and I did warn you that I was going to publish a long post... (ha traducido ladrillo por long post 😂) There's nothing urgent about the long post, so you can read it today or in a year... or not read it at all and move on to the podcasts.

Once again, thank you for visiting...

Lo he leído!!

Good morning, dear friend @avdesing

Málaga is the city of art. You have so many beautiful museums there, and what wonderful exhibitions you have.

I loved this exhibition beyond time, especially for the information provided about each of the works.

My favorite work is a rural area with colorful paintings of the houses.

I'm always grateful that you share the beauty you see in these exhibitions.

Have a wonderful day.

It has been a while since I am visiting a museum and this makes me want to go to an art museum and exhibition. Usually with those exhibition light, I tend to lower my ISO and adjust the settings, so that it highlights the art.

I take photos with my phone... but luckily, museums place lights specifically on each piece.🤗

I like the familiarity of the art in spite of being eastern European. It's as if the styles had a pan-European impact as artists adopted the changing techniques. It's a wonderful collection.

Another marvellous visit to Russian pictorial art. I really liked that winter landscape; it was the first piece that caught my attention, though I also enjoyed several others. You already know I like Kandinsky.
