Martiricos Park 📷 Malaga – Spain

In the centre of a neighbourhood with countless buildings, Barrio Martiricos, a huge park called Parque Martiricos was created just over two years ago.

It has an extension of more than thirty thousand square metres.

First a very modern complex of buildings was built, its architectural style, although simple, differs from the surrounding buildings, as this area is quite old.

Then they started with the creation of this wonderful park in a place where there was absolutely nothing.

The name is due to the homage paid to the patron saints of Malaga, who died in this place and the whole design of the park is an allegory of how these people died, stoned near the river.

The area of the Martiricos neighbourhood is situated very close to the Guadalmedina river, but it was decided that instead of building the park next to the river, it would be in the central area of the neighbourhood.

The only thing that could be seen were some very large and tall trees, which were left to provide shade and the park was built around them without altering them.

The park is made up of different but at the same time pleasant sectors, all of which are pleasant to the visitor's eye.

A large pond runs through the park from north to south, alluding to the aforementioned river. Beautiful finishes such as waterfalls at the ends give the park a unique style.

On one side of the large pond there is a path full of green flowerbeds full of flowers of different colours. Its maintenance is constant. In them you can also observe palm trees that give something to spare and generate a great aesthetic.

On the other side of the pond, there is a gazebo with plants that are still growing and will be covered in the future to create a shady and cool promenade.

To the north of the park are the trees that existed before the construction of this space. Many times you can find families having picnics.

A little further on, from north to south, you can see not only benches for resting in the shade, but also the children's play area, these areas are divided and run through a large part of the park.

In different parts of the route, as I said, there are seats, but as the park is relatively new, many are in full sun.

Children's games are present in different forms, for the little ones.

At the southern end of the park, there is an allegory of the stones with which the city's patrons were killed. Despite its significance, this part of the park is very beautiful.

There are hilly areas with lots of greenery and trees, where people bring their pets to run and play.

Arriving at the southern exit, as there are two more exits to the north, we can see many flowers and various plants.

The park is fully illuminated so, at night it is a beautiful walk with all the paths properly illuminated.

20230531_162450.jpg

After the stones we saw earlier, we can find some structures or sculptures with inscriptions that recall the events I mentioned before, a great tribute.

20230531_162408.jpg

It is a beautiful park that decorates and gives a precious green space to this neighbourhood, which was really needed.

20230531_162343.jpg

20230531_162519.jpg

A beautiful walk to enjoy the vegetation, the children's games and the history.

I hope you enjoyed this walk as much as I did.
Best regards and see you next time.

The park looks so cool. The perfect center for relaxation and also a socializing point for parents and kids of the neighborhood.
And the fact that it was built in a strategic manner in memory of the patron saints of Malaga. I wonder what their story is and why they were stoned to death.

The shallow pond adds to the surrealness of the design. Big ups to the architects🙂

I enjoyed reading this and seeing such great pictures. Thanks for sharing.
Although I'm curious to know. Do you frequent the park with friends & family?

That's right and not only at weekends, for a short walk and to clear your mind it's ideal. But of course at the weekend it is even more enjoyable.

Thank you very much for your comment @nnurdiani 😀

I know the park must be very lovely but your lovely photos have helped to enhance its beauty and brought it to life, you know.
It's also nice that the park has done its bit to somewhat cater to the different age groups and ensure that everyone has a blast.

I love the sprawling plants and the huge trees. Seems like an awesome relaxation spot. So lovely for you to share.

Gracias Yamila!❤️

As soon as I saw the benches in the sun I felt hot, then I said I'll go to the pond and I felt cool, then I sat under the small leafy tree and I fell asleep for a while until a car passed by and woke me up, it was a good trip.

Wow!
