Hay sitios o lugares que son emblemáticos de un país, que los caracterizan y que al ver algo así uno sabe en que país se encuentra. Eso pasa con las plazas de toros y con el toro en sí mismo, es algo eminentemente español.

The first time I saw her was high up in the sky. It was 2018, more precisely 23 August of that year. I had recently sorted out my Spanish nationality papers, registered with the local council, which took a month to arrive, and then applied for my ID card. After so much paperwork and so many comings and goings, often not knowing what to do, asking here and there, I had finally completed the task. That's when I decided to take a few days to visit the most beautiful places in the city, without suspecting that I would never finish exploring it.

Just at that time, an acquaintance of the family had arrived here, and I was going to be his guide to help him with the necessary paperwork, but he didn't stay long, only a month, and then he returned to Argentina for various reasons. But in that short time, I visited some beautiful places with him. Some of them were the city's two castles, and when I reached the highest one, I could see it. I didn't know it was there: Malaga's bullring, called Plaza de toros ‘La Malagueta’.

From above, it looked majestic, truly beautiful. Although I don't agree with this practice because it hurts the bulls, I know that it is a tradition of the place, of all of Spain, and that it always has been.

La primera vez que la vi, fue en las alturas. Corría el año 2018, más precisamente el día 23 de agosto de ese año. Hacía poco tiempo había puesto en orden mis papeles de nacionalidad española, había realizado el empadronamiento, el cual me tardó un mes en llegar y luego gestionar el DNI. Luego de tanto trámite y tantas idas y venidas, no sabiendo muchas veces que hacer, preguntando aquí y allá, había terminado esa tarea. En entonces cuando decidí tomarme unos días para recorrer los lugares más hermosos de la ciudad, sin sospechar que nunca terminaría de recorrerla.

Justamente en esos días había llegado un conocido de la familia aquí, y yo le sería de guía para hacer los tramites necesarios, pero no se quedó mucho tiempo, sólo un mes y se volvió a Argentina por diversos motivos. Pero en ese poco tiempo recorrí con él algunos lugares hermosos. Algunos de ellos fueron los dos castillos de la ciudad y cuando llegué al más alto pude verla. No sabía que estaba allí: La plaza de toros de Málaga, llamada Plaza de toros “La Malagueta”.

Desde lo alto se veía majestuosa, verdaderamente hermosa. Si bien no estoy de acuerdo con esa práctica porque se lastima a los toros, sé que es una tradición del lugar, de toda España y que lo ha sido siempre.

That date coincided with the fair, the city's famous fair, and this family friend wanted to go to the show that was going to be held there and found out the relevant information. If I went, I would suffer greatly from seeing the bull like that, so no bullfights for me.

But the architecture of the place and its art are fascinating. Some time later, much later, I got to know the bullring up close, walking around its exterior, mainly because there is a beautiful shaded walkway there and, being in the city centre, it is easily accessible.

The doors, the windows, everything about it is beautiful. Today I bring this jewel of the city to this beautiful community, and of course there are many others throughout the country, and I also bring you my experience with it. And in various parts of its façade, posters of different festivities are placed as advertisements for them.

Precisamente esa fecha coincidía con la feria, la famosa feria de la ciudad y este amigo de la familia quería ir al espectáculo que allí se iba a realizar y averiguó lo pertinente. Si yo iría sufriría mucho de ver al toro así, por ese motivo nada de corridas de toros.

Pero la arquitectura del lugar y su arte es fascinante. Tiempo después, mucho después, conocí la plaza de toros de cerca, recorriéndola en su extensión por fuera, sobre todo porque en ese lugar hay un paseo lleno de sombra muy hermoso y al estar en el centro de la ciudad es de fácil acceso.

Las puertas, los ventanales, todo en ella es hermoso. Hoy traigo a esta hermosa comunidad esta joya de la ciudad y por supuesto hay muchas en todo el país y también les traigo mi experiencia con ella. Y en diversas partes de su fachada se colocan carteles de distintas festividades como publicidades de las mismas.

Being so close to the city's most touristy beach, it is a must-see for tourists and receives many visitors. In reality, it cannot be visited as such, as a bullring, unless there is an important festival, but apart from these events, which occur only a few times a year, the beach is used by the La Malagueta cultural centre, where photography exhibitions are held permanently, and the truth is that they are very interesting.

Al estar tan cerca de la playa más turística de la ciudad, es paso obligado de los turistas y recibe muchas visitas. En realidad, no se puede visitar como tal, como plaza de toros, salvo que haya una festividad importante, pero salvo estos acontecimientos, que se producen en contadas veces del año, la playa es usada por el centro cultural La Malagueta y allí se realizan permanentemente exposiciones de fotografías y la verdad es que son muy interesantes.

The first time I went to one, I think it was in 2021, when my aunt and uncle and I were passing by and saw the doors open with the big posters, so we went in. It was a great exhibition of photographs about The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. On that occasion, I forgot to take photographs; I didn't even think about it. I was just enjoying a great outing and exploring with my aunt and uncle. I remember it as if it were today.

The second photography exhibition lasted a long time, and no wonder, as it was dedicated to the painter Picasso, and I took some photographs on that occasion.

Then I went to two more exhibitions, one of which was dedicated to Spain's dark period. I still have some of the photographs and have brought them here.

Most of the exhibitions are of black and white photographs and last approximately three to six months. Visits are always free, and the museum is open every day of the week at different times. Right now, there is a new exhibition that looks very interesting, which I will go to.

La primera vez que fui a una creo que fue en el año 2021, cuando con mis tíos pasábamos por el lugar y vimos las puertas abiertas con los grandes carteles y pasamos. Fue una gran muestra de fotografías sobre Los Beatles y Los Rolling Stones. En esa oportunidad olvidé tomar fotografías, ni siquiera pensaba en eso, sólo disfrutaba de una gran salida y exploración con mis tíos, lo recuerdo como si fuera hoy.

La segunda muestra fotográfica duró mucho tiempo y no era para menos, estaba destinada al pintor Picasso y algunas fotografías me quedaron de esa oportunidad.

Luego fui a dos muestras más y una de ellas fue dedicada a la época oscura de España, también algunas fotografías aún conservo y las traigo aquí.

La mayoría de las exposiciones son sobre fotografías en blanco y negro y duran tres a seis meses aproximadamente. Siempre las visitas son gratuitas y abre las puertas todos los días de la semana, a distintos horarios. Justamente ahora hay una nueva exposición que parece muy interesante a la cual iré.

Por lo que en mi caso particular relaciono la plaza de toros más con arte y con una forma de hacer cultura en la ciudad. Me gusta el destino que le han dado a esta hermosa edificación y que vista desde lo alto es imponente. Esta es una foto reciente que difiere mucho de la primera, la cual la tomé allá, lejos en el tiempo, casi 7 años de diferencia.
