Chimeras and myths: marvellous art.

When imagination and creativity have no limits is when I think of everything that amazes and surprises me, and just as nature is always in charge of surprising me, so is art as a creation of the imagination.

20251123_122050.jpg

I don't usually look at art exhibitions in art galleries on the internet, except in the case of museums, especially to find out the dates of the exhibitions. But in the case, for example, of this art gallery, I go regularly, and I go in to see what's new. I think the variety is what characterises this place, there are always different things, I may like them or not, but in this particular case, I was absolutely amazed.

20251014_181213.jpg20251014_181223.jpg

20251014_181246.jpg

20251014_181514.jpg

The best thing of all is that the art on display in this exhibition intermingled sculpture and painting, even better for me, and the name of the exhibition gave me an idea of the fantasy and exquisite art I could see: Chimeras y mitos, engravings and sculptures by the artist Esperanza Romero.

As soon as I entered there were some sculptures on display at the entrance, which is very unusual, three white pieces that looked like marble, although they were not, and then when I approached a piece that was to one side I discovered that the material was burnished ceramic and sigilata, all alluding to the nebulae and the universe. They were gigantic and very beautiful.

20251014_181302.jpg20251014_181317.jpg

‘Ivory tower’

In this case I thought the material was stone, but again I was wrong, it was black ceramic and burnished ceramic with sigilata. I loved the arrangement of the small stones one on top of the other, beautiful and very high tower.

The exhibition interspersed the sculptures with the engravings.

20251014_181335.jpg

‘Andromeda’

A beautiful linocut, they were all done in black and white and the details are amazing, like that horse in the background and the fish tails or maybe mermaids.

20251014_181349.jpg

20251014_181402.jpg20251014_181355.jpg

‘Cascada’

Also made in burnished ceramic, but in this case I didn't see a waterfall but a rope full of knots and ties. It is interesting how so many things can be seen in art.

20251014_181421.jpg

‘Venus’

In this linocut we see the goddess of love, with her hair forward and surrounded by fish, which for me represent abundance, perhaps carried by that enormous turtle.

20251014_181438.jpg

‘Orpheus and Eurydice’

Another spectacular linocut that speaks of trust in the oracle. The details of the face, the background with animals, the musical instrument and the atmosphere of chaos in a perfect work.

20251014_181500.jpg

The linocuts were of considerable size, I had to stand quite far away to take the pictures and they were all very beautiful and very well done.

20251014_181535.jpg20251014_181542.jpg

‘Totem’

In mythology and ancient cultures totems are very important, representing people and animals. This work is made in black ceramic and burnished ceramic with sigilata.

20251014_181600.jpg

Three works side by side with a special illumination that made them magical.

20251014_181611.jpg20251014_181631.jpg

‘Balance’

Burnished ceramics

20251014_181620.jpg20251014_181625.jpg

‘Awakening’

Burnished ceramics

20251014_181642.jpg20251014_181649.jpg

"Nardo"

Burnished ceramics

20251014_181705.jpg

As I turned around two more huge linocuts and more spectacular than the previous ones.

20251014_181713.jpg

‘Minotaur’

Linocut alluding to the labyrinth, Theseus and Ariadne. A perfect composition between the waves of the sea and the labyrinth, plus a perfect realisation of the minotaur.

20251014_181729.jpg

‘Icarus’

Again the mythology in this dreamer, I felt very identified with this linocut, as an eternal dreamer. It is wonderful to see those curves, those lines so well realised.

20251014_181739.jpg20251014_181751.jpg20251014_181807.jpg

Near the staircase leading to other art exhibits are two works, ‘Cactus’, made in burnished ceramics with sigilata, Etruscan black and glazed ceramics and ‘Looking’, made in black ceramics and burnished ceramics with sigilata.

20251014_181819.jpg

The room arranged in a corridor was really enchanting with so many wonderful works and the perfect light. So much mythology and so much art.

20251014_181827.jpg

20251014_181904.jpg

20251014_181835.jpg20251014_181841.jpg20251014_181848.jpg

Nine paintings in a beautiful shade of green with black, all done in linocuts on two plates. The colour stood out from the other works and generated a lot of interest. Next to them was the list of names that corresponded to each one.

20251014_181956.jpg

20251014_182004.jpg

20251014_182020.jpg20251014_182027.jpg

Climbing the stairs I came across some works that I thought were made of a material similar to sheet metal, tin or iron, but they were once again burnished ceramic with smoked sigillata. They were called ‘Equilibrio I’ and ‘Equilibrio II’.

Going up the stairs, there were three more works, it was noticeable that the exhibition was so big that not all the works could fit in the room below and I was happy to see more and more art.

20251014_182041.jpg

‘Narcissus and Echo’

Another beautiful linocut about falling in love with one's own reflection. A spectacular culmination of linocuts.

20251014_182109.jpg

20251014_182130.jpg

20251014_182122.jpg

Finally, two works, ‘Fluir’ and ‘Descanso’. Both made in burnished and sigilata ceramics, where the mixture of two colours made them look different from all the rest I had been able to see.

I have enjoyed this exhibition at its maximum expression, it has been spectacular to go through each piece and appreciate it. If you like you can tell me in comments which is your favourite, I would love to read them.

Thank you very much for joining me today, I wish you a very good Sunday. See you soon.
Amonet.

Quite a journey through the art. That mix between sculptures, linocuts and prints was well made. Totally love the linocuts, but the sculpture "Cascada" caught my attention from the first view 🤩🤩🤩 Greetings

Good afternoon @avdesing. I have to tell you that when an artist tells me something, I check their birthdate. It's curious, but I see a huge gap in contemporary art between artists born before 1971 (give or take) and the younger ones. In this case, it didn't surprise me that Esperanza Romero was born back in the 1950s. I find her work both understated and delicate, and very beautiful. Both the ceramics and the linocuts are exceptional pieces. They move me deeply.

Thank you so much for this journey so full of creativity, good taste, and beauty.

Big hug. 🤗

I don't look at that detail you say, but it's true, there is a big difference and in this case I was fascinated with everything in general, but the linocuts... what a beauty. Thank you very much!

That detail about age is just that, a detail. I think it's a matter of language... I understand artists of a certain age better, that's all. Regarding the liniments, they're also what I liked most about his work... they're impressive both for the technique and the details, and for the very personal interpretation of the myths... thank you again... excellent tour and excellent guide...

These are unusual and great pieces. The Narcissus and Echo is visually catchy because of the patterns.
