Barrier Lagoon Park - A unique natural space πŸ“· MΓ‘laga - Spain

I love exploring and looking for new places to visit. Sometimes I feel like this city is endless when it comes to magical places to visit. I like to walk around and always get to know new places, that's the best thing.

Many people know that the thing that has helped me the most since I arrived in Spain has been the map and I often look at it to learn new things. A few days ago, looking for new places, I saw on the map a place with water in the city and in a district that I knew several years ago for work, and I marked it as important. Of course it is not close by, but I ventured there.

Depending on where you are in the city, you can get to this park by car or by different bus lines, whichever one leads to the district of Teatinos, which is the university area.

On arrival I was struck by the beauty of the place. There was plenty of sunshine, with some clouds as white as snowflakes. The whole place is fenced off and then I discovered that there are many entrances all along the route.

At all the entrances there is a sign asking to respect the park and its rules and opening hours. As soon as I entered I saw a lot of vegetation and very varied with many paths to walk through it. But at the same time there was a main path, which, at the beginning of my walk, I didn't know where it ended, but I started to walk along it.

After a short time of walking I came across several signs, some with the name of the park and another explanatory one. This one said that the route was approximately 1 kilometre long and circular, so I assumed that the path was around the entire lagoon. In the distance I could see the lagoon, where the water had an intense blue and turquoise colour.

20250416_151736.jpg

20250416_151814.jpg

Also in the distance I could see that there were birds in the lagoon, although I wasn't going to know more until I got close enough. According to the sign it would take me half an hour to walk around the lagoon, but it was much longer, especially as I stopped several times to look around and take pictures. The day was beautiful, although as you will see later the landscape changed dramatically in colour if a cloud covered the sun.

20250416_152128.jpg

20250416_151927.jpg

I continued walking along the path, enjoying the vegetation, bushes, pines and other trees until I reached a beautiful garden, like those gardens that palaces have in front of them, with beautiful shapes, well trimmed and maintained. It is the first time I have seen a garden like this in the city, which tells me that I still have a lot to explore.

Along the way, with this garden on my right, I tried to photograph it from different angles, until the garden ended and another path began. Actually, the path split in two. One continued around and the other descended towards the lagoon.

20250416_152217.jpg

20250416_152259.jpg

Before continuing along the path I stopped in a space where there were olive trees, a lot of olive trees, I love this tree, because of the shape of its trunk and its fruit. There I stopped to have something to eat, I love having lunch in nature.

Then I chose the path that descended towards the base of the lagoon. I reached a low area where there were ducks of different colours and I could get close enough to take some pictures of them. At that moment the sun was covered by a cloud and the water of the lagoon looked beautifully shiny and blue. I waited a long time to see the same place, but in full sun and it was wonderful.

20250416_161030.jpg

20250416_161058.jpg

Then I walked back up the path and headed back to the main trail so that I could walk around the entire lagoon in a circle. The views from that height were beautiful and as I went along I had the lagoon to my right and to my left different areas with trees, divided by species. At the same time I could see the different entrances to the park and the lagoon. Now the sun was shining and the reflection on the water was beautiful.

I came across another path that descended very steeply, I followed it to see what was there and new views surprised me.

20250416_162252.jpg

20250416_162255.jpg

I climbed again, but this time the path was steeper and I returned to the main path. To my left I was pleased to see signs indicating what kind of trees were in the area, carob and Aleppo pines.

20250416_162619.jpg

20250416_162523.jpg

20250416_162418.jpg

A seemingly endless staircase descended to the lagoon, but on this occasion I decided to follow the main path, I could see in the distance where one ended and the other ended. I suppose there will be no shortage of opportunities to go down that staircase and see what's down there.

20250416_162814.jpg

20250416_162812.jpg

This time I wanted high views and I was able to enjoy many beautiful ones. From time to time I took pictures of what was below and realised that I was at a great height.

20250416_163216.jpg

20250416_163259.jpg

The path continued through bushes of different colours and a lot of vegetation and trees, now under the intense sun. There were several rest areas, picnic areas and playgrounds for children. I was already reaching the end of the trail, going all the way around the huge lagoon.

I have enjoyed this place very much and above all it is a new place for me and I love that, to know more and more every day.

Thank you very much for joining me in this journey and new exploration of natural places in the city. I send you a big greeting. See you soon.

Good morning, dear friend @avdesing

I also have the impression that your city is endless. There are so many beautiful places to discover, and what I like most is that you can reach these beautiful places by public transportation. It's great.

What a beautiful natural paradise, and best of all, it's right in the heart of the city, with all the benefits that this brings.

The lagoon is truly beautiful. Beautiful shots, truly gorgeous views.

Have a lovely day. Enjoy it.

Hi @avdesing, I'm glad you consulted a map that takes you to places like that. The lagoon looks beautiful, and maybe it's not, but I think you've come at a very good time, in a rainy year.

Anyway, thank you very much for this wonderful walk.

A big hug.

🍩 Ah, I also prefer to go out after midday or in the afternoon... it wouldn't be bad to change my routine from time to time and go out early in the morning... by the way, I have to do it tomorrow but for health reasons.

Magnificent place with incredible scenery. Have you ever tried an app called Alltrails? You can find more trails there in your surrounding area. This is a wonderful trail. I like this chunky boy you found :D
