A hidden mini paradise - Cactus Garden πŸ“· Malaga – Spain

On my walks around the city, I often find places that aren't on the map at first glance, unless I zoom in too much, and then the area appears. These places seem hidden, and in this case, I found it in the middle of a large avenue.

The city never ceases to amaze me, more and more every day. People may think that Malaga is just the city center, but it is so big that I have no idea when I will get to know it completely. This makes me marvel and wonder every day, and I think it will never stop doing so.

I had only passed by this place once two years ago, but not inside, only outside from a parallel street. A few weeks ago, while walking along the east coast of Malaga, I saw a large group of trees and palm trees in the distance, and I was struck by the fact that it was located between two avenues, as if it were a large boulevard, between the Pablo Ruiz Picasso promenade and Avenida del pintor JoaquΓn Sorolla.

What I never imagined was that this place would be so large, with so many species of plants, in this case cacti, and that it would be so long and have a path inside that you could walk along. From the outside, the large vegetation covers everything and you can't see the path. According to the map, it is called the Cactus Garden, and based on my calculations of the distance I walked inside, I think it is approximately 300 meters long.

I was walking from the east of the city towards the center, and when I crossed the first avenue to see what it was, I found a small hidden paradise, which I was able to walk through in its entirety.

You know I really like exploring new places, especially if they involve nature. On that path, you could hardly hear the noise of the cars passing by on the avenue, and in the wider areas of the garden, there was so much space that I couldn't believe I was in the middle of two such wide streets with so much traffic.

There I found a huge variety of cacti, all very well maintained and cared for, like so many other gardens I have visited, but what is surprising is that this place is far from the center and there is not much tourism, yet the garden was impeccable. That speaks to the city's good cleaning system.

As I walked along the path inside, to my left I could see the beach in the distance, the promenade. Between the treetops, the tall palm trees, and the giant cacti, the blue sky peeked through with a bright sun, and as you know, I always like to look at everything around me and take pictures of everything I see.

There were lots of flowering shrubs and greenery everywhere I looked. The sun's rays filtered through the trees, and there were several species of ficus trees intermingled with prickly cacti. It was an impressive and beautiful variety.

In some sections, the path narrowed and was closer to the avenues, then widened again, immersing me in this hidden paradise that seemed like something out of a fairy tale.

Almost the entire route had large rocks that served as seats, and I was able to sit there for a while, under the thick, beautiful shade, and contemplate everything. It was an ideal place for walks and relaxation. I could hear many birds singing, and although I didn't see them, I'm sure there were even small lizards or geckos. It's the ideal place for them.

Many of the cacti were huge, towering, while others were creeping and formed large bushes. Very few had flowers, but the ones that did were beautiful.

I really liked the mix of the wide variety of cacti, which of course I don't know the names of, but they all look familiar to me, and the other types of trees. This meant that when I looked up, everything together formed a large pergola. The magic was present with every step I took, which always happens to me in natural spaces and makes me forget that I am in the city.

It is a place that I don't think is very well known, except perhaps by those who live nearby, and that in turn makes it attractive because it is secluded and relaxing. It is very special.

I am always excited to explore new places, find surprises and treasures, and that fills me with energy and motivates me more and more. Thank you for joining me on today's discovery and adventure. Best regards. See you soon.

It’s surprising that a city can hide such serene corners in plain sight, places that make you forget the hustle and bustle just a few steps away.πŸ€—

Hello @avdesing, there's no doubt that you've found a hidden paradise. Cacti are plants that have always been with me; I have some that have been with me for about 30 years. So you can imagine how much I enjoyed seeing those huge columnar cacti.

Thank you very much for sharing this hidden paradise.

A big hug.

Cacti really enjoy the Spanish Mediterranean climate; they grow even in the wild by themselves, without care, and sometimes they grow as big as some trees. An amazing world that they create, and in the cities, like yours, they bring back that feeling of being surrounded by wilderness. A good choice though to have your hand close to a hibiscus flower and not to a cactus hahaha 😁
