The Biggest Culinary Tourism in the Morning in North Sumatra

Hello everyone,
It's a good day for me and my family members, today we went to a place that is famous for all the market snacks sold in the morning and the only morning market that sells a very large breakfast menu. This place certainly has a big attraction for anyone who comes to Deli Serdang, North Sumatra. Yes, I'm talking about Pasar Kamu.

'PASAR KAMU' means the Pekan Sarapan Karya Anak Muda' or a market which provides various types of breakfast made by young people, sponsored by the North Sumatra government as a tourist destination for local and foreign communities. This market is in Pantai Labu District, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, not far from Kualanamo Airport which is the only airport in Medan City.

Pasar Kamu is a culinary tourism destination that is only open on Sunday mornings from 07.00am – 11.00am, but I hope you come early because this place will be very busy with lots of people and you might run out of food. Honestly, this place is very busy with lots of people because there is nothing like this here, that's why Pasar Kamu has never been empty of visitors for the last 3 years since it opened.

What Are You Looking For in Pasar Kamu?

The tenants selling are many and varied, but what is clear here is that they all provide traditional Sumatran and Javanese breakfasts, there is so much food being sold that you will be confused about what to eat. Tenants are given a special place, such as a small hut, where they can place the food they sell in a limited space, including traditional clothes that will be worn according to the type of theme. Every week the theme will change depending on the management, but it works, all cultures are displayed here.

Likewise with payment instruments, you must exchange your rupiah in the form of 'tempu', a legal payment instrument in your market, where 1 tempu is valued at 2000 rupiah and can be exchanged here. The shape of tempu is very simple, namely a coin made from coconut shells which is specially carved by the management. You can only buy food or goods here using tempu, nothing else.

There are various kinds of food here, all of which are breakfast menus that are commonly found in various regions in Indonesia, such as nasi liwet, putu ayu, corn grontol, putri mandi, jenang, pepes ikan, ice dawet, and many other types of food. Maybe your stomach won't be big enough to accommodate all the food here, but what is clear is that all the food here is delicious, fresh, tasteful, rich in flavor and definitely very traditional Indonesian.

Not only culinary tourism, you can also find interesting entertainment from several cultural performances such as Javanese dance with gamelan, entertaining Malay dance and also a musical duo performance played by two elderly people who are full of high art. They display extraordinary things, so that visitors will not be bored with just the food, but the experience will be extraordinarily interesting.

I came here with my mother in law, my husband and 2 cousins who really want to be brought here. This is the second time I have come to Pasar Kamu and I have never been disappoint with everything here, in fact I want to keep have breakfast here until I get sick of it. All the tenant are very promising regarding their food, that's why they persist and there are still many people who always want to come here.

Even though the place is simple, it is only on an empty land which is still filled with several trees such as bamboo, coconut trees, oil palms and even lots of banana trees, but this place really does not disappoint. There is not a single gap that can be revealed, because the vibe is truly like being in your hometown, breakfast in your hometown never disappoints.

The rice fields that we looked at along the way

Everyone seemed very enthusiastic and equally supportive of government programs like this. Not only tenants, visitors are also very cooperative with the cleanliness, terms and conditions of Pasar Kamu. So, don't forget to come to Pasar Kamu, you'll never be disappointed with the breakfast tradition here!

See you the next time hive friends!
