Indonesian people's enthusiasm for independence day with various interesting competitions
Hello everyone,
Maybe it's too late to post this article, because Indonesia's independence day was passed a week ago. But because the feeling of independence is still felt this August, it's okay for me to write this as my daily article. Independence has lasted for 77 years, the feeling of freedom from the shackles of colonialism has ended decades ago.
To celebrate this independence, many people are enthusiastic about celebrating with various competitions to strengthen the relationship between neighbors and groups. It is also a must, after 2 years independence day is not celebrated because the pandemic outbreak makes people have to stay at home and avoid crowds, even though it should still be endemic at this time, but because the vaccine has made people more confident and the possibility of being exposed to the covid virus not as bad as before.
Many people do not want this moment to be missed, so each community group makes a competition with various types of games so that this independence day is filled with boisterous joy for all levels of society. Especially for children, all these competitions are expected to increase the sense of nationalism and love for the Indonesian homeland.
In my house complex, there are lots of children with different ages, the number of children makes the celebration of this independence party even more lively, especially the children are very enthusiastic about this event. Various competitions are made according to the age and ability of the children in this complex.
Some examples of competitions for children such as; Eating crackers, spooning marbles and putting nails into bottles is a competition that is usually held every year. The smiles of the children were very sincere and happy with the competition being held. Not only that, parents are also very happy to see their children playing with many other children with various exciting competitions.
Well, this time I would like to introduce the competitions held by the committee, namely; cracker eating contest.
This competition is a mandatory competition and must be held every year. How to play it is very easy, just eat crackers but with hands that should not touch the crackers. The crackers are tied with a rope and hang like a clothesline. The most exciting thing is when fellow players have to finish the crackers, the challenge is that the crackers we have to eat will be very difficult to reach with our mouths because the rope that binds the crackers will move continuously.
It looks like the children are very happy if they get crackers in their mouths, they have to finish the crackers as soon as possible in order to win the game.
Not only the competition to eat crackers, the spoon of marbles is no less exciting. The competitors must carry the marbles very carefully to the finish line. Note, marbles are brought with a spoon that is placed in the mouth. So that concentration and skill in keeping marbles from falling are things that must be mastered. But, speed is also needed to reach the finish line, the fastest one will win the game.
The last race for the children was to put nails into the bottle. The participants must insert nails that have been tied with a rope hanging from the waist. Whoever gets the nail into the bottle the fastest is the winner.
Not only for children, the men in this complex also have to participate to play a game, namely TARIK TAMBANG. This game is quite easy, the male participants have to find 5 members and set a strategy to be able to pull a rope that is big enough. Two groups must be able to attract other groups to cross a predetermined line, the interested group will lose and vice versa will win.
Well, those are some of the competitions that I can describe at the 17 August Independence Day celebration. Actually, there are many other games, but unfortunately I can only participate in half of the event, because my in-laws come and have to be at home to entertain them. Even so, I am very happy to have been able to enliven the August 17 event at my home complex.
See you the next time hive friends!

Happy Independence Day!!! The kids as well as the adults seems to be having lots of fun. We also have similar games in the Philippines. Sometimes, we play during Christmas parties or even birthday parties. We also have some native festival games that are a lot of fun. Sadly, we don't really practice them as often as we used to. :(
celebrating independence every year and doing lots of things with the locals is a must. this is also fully supported by the committees who have worked hard to make all competitions run smoothly.
I hope your festival is also celebrated with joy and excitement again..
That's great! They somehow strengthen the bond among the people living in your community. :)
I hope so, too.... it's more enthusiastic in the countryside than the city. haha
