Hello everyone, Architecture & Design Community..
Warm greetings to all of us, may we always be given health and happiness all the times..

Today I will talk about an architectural concept and design of a famous cafe in the city of Medan. Sosmed café, which is taken from the word SOSial MEDia, this café has a unique concept. Starting from a few years ago, when the Instagram era began to be popular with the virtual world, many people were vying to find a beautiful place to post an Instagram feed, this café took this opportunity.

6 years ago, in 2017 I and some co-workers came to the Sosmed cafe to celebrate my coworker's birthday. At that time, Sosmed café was one of the most popular cafes visited by many young people, including us. Being on Abdullah Lubis Street, one of the streets in the middle of the city, is the main attraction of this cafe. At that time, not many cafes had as good architecture and design as social media cafes.

After many years, I took the time to visit a social media cafe a few days ago, inviting my husband to try a social media cafe which he had never been to, because he felt that he always passed by the cafe but had never tried the cafe's atmosphere and food. By capitalizing on discount vouchers on the 'DealMedan' application platform, we get the best deals.

I feel that nothing is different from 7 years ago, this place still has the same concept, architecture and design, I was very surprised at how well they have maintained the sustainability of this cafe. The concept of this cafe is the same as the name suggests, they use their interior design as a place to take pictures, captivating with the designs they offer.

They have several sections, so it's not monotonous as a place to take pictures. Like this section, everyone's favorite place, shaped like an airplane cabin, even the seats are very similar to the seats on an airplane. Feel the sensation of being in an airplane while eating on the dining table. Not only chairs, they also made booths made of thin iron and glass, made like the walls and glass of an airplane.

If you want to take pictures with some teddy bears, there is a very 'instagramable' spot, which feels like home, so many teddy bears and you can take pictures to your heart's content, but don't take the dolls home, maybe you will be stopped by employees this cafe. There is a large mirror behind the sofa and also various Chinese New Year accessories, even though Chinese New Year is over. It turned out that the teddy bear was very large, even bigger than my body. Maybe if you brought the kids it would be a lot of fun.

The chairs and tables in this cafe are also really interesting, there are some that are eye-catching, as in the picture below, there are tables and chairs that look like conventional sewing machines, you can swing the table so you don't get too bored and move your legs so you can burn calories.

Sosmed cafe has 2 floors, there is one more floor above, this is the most popular among visitors who want to celebrate a party with friends. Usually this room is very liked by some young people who want to celebrate birthdays, bridal showers and other small parties. This place must be reserved before use. To be honest, this room is very private for hosting small parties, but not for office meetings or doing college assignments.

You know about the work of Yayoi Kusama, an artist who has many famous works, one of which is 'Mirror Room (Pumpkin)', on social media cafes, you can feel the sensation of being in Yayoi Kusama's exhibition room, this room is filled with colors yellow orange (pumpkin) which has lots of black polka dot patterns. To be honest, I was a bit dizzy being in this small room for 3 minutes, it seems the color is too bright on my eyes. It's quite interesting to be able to feel the place, you can try to sit and order food in the room, and you can also be accompanied by some teddy bears.

This cafe has indeed been around for too long with a design like this, one that still exists today is a flyer figure of Siwon Choi, Super Junior, who is still very young, this is a sign that this cafe is very old, compared to cafes others, still very competitive with several growing cafes, but this cafe has maintained its sustainability for years.

You have presented a cafe that follows another beautiful architectural concept. In fact, it seems that various features have been introduced to attract customers in an attractive manner. It turns out that it is a great place to take pictures with the decorations on the place where the teddy bears are kept. Even rooms suitable for entertaining with friends are designed in an attractive way.

In fact, the teddy bear has been around since 2017 and is still on point, so adorable isn't it?

Fascinating cafe @aswita! They have really maintained their architecture and design concept for as long as they stayed in business. That's obvious proof of their continuous dedication to their brand. Their incredible interior decorations depicting interesting themes are surely attractive magnets for customers who are technology-savvy with online social media. 👍😊

But hold on, isn't the correct English term supposed to be Soc Med (Social Media) instead of Sos Med?

Sosmed, taken from the English spelling which is made into Indonesian, sosial = social.
Should I tell the restaurant owner to correct the word social part? I think so :D

Yeah, maybe the word Sosial could be a more applicable terminology to the local Indonesian context since most citizens can easily relate to that inscription on signages. Or it could be a branding strategy as well to differentiate themselves from the norm - an intriguing name if you will to catch attention, haha 😁
