Martin Widmark, Christina Alvner, "Nelly Rapp i Noc Czarownic"

Chyba niniejszym rozpoczynam nową tabelę z oddzielnym licznikiem - kategoria książki dla dzieci. Mianowicie udało nam się przeczytać pierwszą po komiksach Wajraka książkę "pełnometrażową". Zajęła nam dwa wieczory, Bombel wsłuchiwał się uważnie i śledził fabułę, podobało nam się. Fajnie :)

Wybór padł na "Nelly Rapp i Noc Czarownic", która jest którąś z kolei książką z serii o upiornej agentce Nelly Wrap. Tak sobie Bombel wybrał w bibliotece :) Brak znajomości poprzednich części w niczym nam nie przeszkadzał, czytało się ciekawie.

I think I'm starting a new table with a separate counter - the category of children's books. Namely, we managed to read the first "full-length" book after Wajrak's comics. It took us two evenings, Bombel listened carefully and followed the plot, we liked it. Great :)

We chose "Nelly Rapp and the Night of the Witches", which is another book in the series about the spooky agent Nelly Wrap. Bombel chose it at the library :) The lack of knowledge of the previous parts did not bother us at all, it was an interesting read.

Ale ta fabuła, o rany!

Hrabia Jorken Klopp, postać pełna manier i tajemniczości, urządza kolację, na którą zaprasza kobiety pełne gniewu. Wypytuje je, dlaczego są takie wściekłe. A one opowiadają – i to wcale nie bajki, tylko twardą rzeczywistość. Jedna pracuje w banku i właśnie dostała premię znacznie niższą niż jej koledzy, choć pracuje tak samo ciężko. Druga jest nauczycielką – codziennie znosi zaczepki i brak szacunku ze strony uczniów, zwłaszcza chłopców. Jeszcze inna wspomina sytuację z autobusu – była nastolatką, gdy jakiś mężczyzna uszczypnął ją w tyłek i szeptał paskudne rzeczy. Kolejna chciała w dzieciństwie grać w piłkę nożną, ale boisko było „dla chłopaków” – mogły grać dopiero po ciemku, gdy chłopcy się wynudzili i poszli do domu.

Hrabia, zamiast zareagować empatią czy zrozumieniem, tylko podsyca ich wściekłość. A potem – i tu zaczyna się „magia” – daje im miotły i każe lecieć na drugą stronę księżyca. Tam mają stać się wiedźmami i się zemścić. Brzmi jak empowerment? No właśnie nie do końca – bo kobiety nigdy tam nie dolatują. Gdy wzbijają się zbyt wysoko, brakuje im tlenu i spadają. Kaput.

But this plot, oh my!

Count Jorken Klopp, a character full of manners and mystery, organizes a dinner to which he invites women full of anger. He asks them why they are so angry. And they tell - and these are not fairy tales at all, but harsh reality. One works in a bank and has just received a bonus much lower than her colleagues, although she works just as hard. Another is a teacher - she endures daily teasing and disrespect from students, especially boys. Another recalls a situation on the bus - when she was a teenager, a man pinched her butt and whispered nasty things. Another wanted to play football as a child, but the pitch was "for boys" - they could only play in the dark, when the boys got bored and went home.

Instead of reacting with empathy or understanding, the Count only fuels their anger. And then – and this is where the “magic” begins – he gives them brooms and tells them to fly to the other side of the moon. There, they are to become witches and take revenge. Does that sound like empowerment? Well, not really – because women never get there. When they fly too high, they run out of oxygen and fall. Kaput.

W dodatku główna bohaterka wścieka się za każdym razem, gdy hrabia zwraca się do którejś z kobiet per „ślicznotko”, mówi jej, że „pięknie pachnie” albo „ślicznie wygląda”. I słusznie – bo książka porusza też temat sprowadzania kobiet do wyglądu, zamiast traktowania ich serio, z szacunkiem do ich doświadczeń, emocji i kompetencji. Jej towarzysze - płci męskiej - nie rozumieją kompletnie, dlaczego Nelly się złości o komplementy? No właśnie.

Tak więc fabuła mnie lekutko zszokowała, ale pozytywnie. Poruszanie tematu równości płci w książkach dla dzieci uważam za doskonały pomysł. Nie jestem do końca przekonana, czy to pozycja dla czterolatka :D istnieje prawdopodobieństwo, że młody jeszcze pewnych rzeczy nie wyłapał, choć temat komplementów go zaciekawił i musiałam mu to wytłumaczyć - i uważam, że fajnie. W każdym razie podobało się zarówno jemu, jak i mnie, i będziemy czytać takie książeczki. Tej bądź innej serii. :)

In addition, the main character gets angry every time the Count addresses one of the women as "pretty", tells her that she "smells great" or "looks great". And rightly so - because the book also touches on the subject of reducing women to their appearance, instead of treating them seriously, with respect for their experiences, emotions and competences. Her companions - male - do not understand at all why Nelly is angry about compliments? Exactly.

So the plot shocked me a little, but in a positive way. I think raising the subject of gender equality in children's books is a great idea. I am not entirely convinced that this is a book for a four-year-old :D there is a possibility that the little one has not yet caught on to certain things, although the subject of compliments intrigued him and I had to explain it to him - and I think it is great. In any case, both he and I liked it, and we will read books like this. Of this or another series. :)
