A bird’s eye view of Tropea, Italy.

On a recent holiday to Italy we stayed in the beautiful town of Parghelia which is 2 minutes away from Tropea.

Tropea is a dream location for anyone who owns a drone due to the long stretched out beaches, the rocky outcrops, and, best of all, the site of Tropea itself. As you'll see in the video, the outskirts of Tropea hang precariously over the edge of the cliffs allowing anyone who visits the vista of a lifetime. Flying the drone close to the city walls and around the rocky beaches was very exciting and there were moments where my drone cut out due to lost signal which is always scary. However, you dont learn anything if you dont push yourself and on this vacation I certainly tried to push myself out of the comfort zone. What the heck, I insured my drone before leaving so why not take some risks 🫣

The editing is always stressful and unfortunately I couldnt use all the footage I wanted to but with what I could use I think I did an ok Job. Hopefully 3speak wont butcher the resolution and you get to see Tropea in all its glory. Even so, I'll probably upload a YouTube version anyway just in case.

Cant wait to write about my time in Italy and show you all all the wonderful pictures I captured with the drone and my phone. Tropea is a beautiful part of Italy and I'd encourage anyone to visit.

Hope you enjoy the footage and thanks for stopping by. Ciao!

Wow, thanks for the lovely compliment. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I’d love to have a proper pc to be able to do some better editing as there was tons of footage I couldn’t use. Nonetheless, I absolutely love taking the drone with me to places like this.

you're welcome. i wonder while you taking shot with drone, do you need to get approval / permission first?

Laws for drone photography are the same as any other camera. It's just a camera higher in the air. Regulations for flying differ widely per country, city, town, size of drone, etc. Questions are certainly welcome, but we won't allow this to turn into the "drone police". We take it for granted here that folks are flying safely and within their own laws or regs.... or willing to take the risk for themselves of getting caught. Cause just like other photos, sometimes the great ones require a "little" risk.

I've read some heated arguments on some FB groups regarding how folk fly. Like you said, it's up to the individual and if the conditions allow it then why not take a little risk here and there. I tried to fly my drone to the top of Stromboli volcano but my max height restriction kicked in so I only got 2/3 of the way up. Shame as Stromboli is an active volcano and I'd have happily boiled my drone for a shot of some bubbling lava!

Exactly right on the heated arguments piece. While @hollowins post seemed to be an honest, respectable question, I've seen too many groups start that way, and the main reason I stopped using "that other platform" lol. I'm just trying to head it off at the pass before it gets started. "Karens", FAA cop wannabee's, and helicopter mom posts will get muted from the group swiftly and permanently. Your volcano description is a perfect example of why the default limits are good, but should always be allowed to be over-ridden under special circumstances (or just because it's a should be a free country).

And it harm none, do what ye will; shall be the whole of the law.

Hi, Sorry, that was not my intent/intention. I just amazed by his work. That's all.

Guess I'm still a little shell-shocked from other experiences.. Welcome to the group and please keep on posting!

Oh if only we did live in a free country, imagine that 😃 for now we will have to be ruled in accordance with the dumbest minority, or is it the possibility of someone being dumb? Seems common law is a forgotten code.

I never knew my Mavic had this height restriction built in but I've heard that it can be hacked out. Not sure how my insurance would feel about me doing that though. It's a shame really as my signal was still full so I'm sure I could have made it to the top of the volcano.

@hollowins, there are certain things you need depending on the drone you fly. For mine I need a basic license but other than that it's all down to my judgement about how safe it is to be where I am. If it all goes wrong I hope my liability insurance is worth the money I pay for it 🤣

Very nice video and love the location. Amazes me how they build so close to the cliff edge. Thanks for posting in our group!

The arches you see that are built into the cliffs allow them to hold the weight but not sure I’d like a house on the edge 😬 Tropea was such a pretty place but then again Italy seems to be spoilt in that regard.

Thanks for stopping by and it’s always good to be able to contribute to the drone community.
